Four Years of Detention in Forced Labor Camps: Practitioner Wang Zhehao of Dalian City Recounted the Persecution He Suffered Before He Passed Away (Photo)

March 22, 2005

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wang Zhehao started practicing Falun Gong in 1995. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally held at Dalian Detention Center three times. In 2000, Mr. Wang was unlawfully sentenced to one year of forced labor. In April 2001, he was abducted by the authorities and sentenced to three years of forced labor, during which time he was held at Dalian Forced Labor Camp, Guanshan Forced Labor Camp, Benxi Forced Labor Camp and Huludao Forced Labor Camp. Due to unbearable tortures, he wrote a guarantee statement, against his conscience. On October 19, 2003, Liu Guohua, a guard at Huludao Forced Labor Camp detained Mr. Wang in solitary confinement. Mr. Wang Zhehao again went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. He was extremely weak and sick and could not urinate on his own. After more than 20 hours in this condition, he was sent to a hospital. The doctor inserted a force-feeding tube into his stomach through his nose and another tube into his urethra, and kept him in this condition for 38 days, after which he was released on medical parole.

Wang Zhehao returned to Dalian City and worked for a period of time, but he still had difficulty urinating. In early December 2004, his whole body became swollen and his abdomen was bloated. Wang Zhehao drifted in and out of consciousness during the last period of his life. He passed away on December 25, 2004.

Below is Mr. Wang Zhehao's story, based on an audio recording made not long before his death, in which he recounted the persecution he suffered.

I. Persecution experiences between July 20, 1999 and 2001

When the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong first began on July 20, 1999, Wang Zhehao and several other practitioners decided to go to Beijing to appeal. He was abducted in Beijing and sent to Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City where he was unlawfully held for ten days. Later, Gao Qingwu from Nansha Police Station picked him up and took him to the police station. In the evening, the chief of the police station tried to force Mr. Wang to write a guarantee statement. Several days later, in early August, the perpetrators interrogated him again and asked whether he would still practice Falun Gong. He said, "Yes, I will!" They immediately wrote a detention warrant with the accusation that Wang Zhehao was "disrupting the social order" and sent him back to Yaojia Detention Center.

Later, he could not go to work any more due to the constant harassments from the perpetrators and was forced to resign. He moved to Anshan Road with his mother and hoped that would end the harassment. One night, policemen from Wuyi Square Police Station knocked on his door and said they were looking for a man named Zhao. Wang Zhehao's mother opened the door. The policemen entered and saw Falun Gong lecture tapes and exercise videos. They abducted Wang Zhehao and his mother and took them to Wuyi Square Police Station. Wang Zhehao said he had been detained quite a few times already. The policemen said, "We can still detain you."

Wang Zhehao and his mother were held at Yaojia Detention Center for 15 days. Then they were detained in a drug rehabilitation center. One month later, the police sent Wang Zhehao to the Dalian Forced Labor Camp. His family asked some acquaintances to help bail him out on medical grounds and paid a 10,000 yuan "deposit." The money has never been returned.

At Yaojia Detention Center, Wang Zhehao and several other practitioners were held together, including Liu Yonglai who was later tortured to death. Wang Zhehao said that all of the practitioners were very determined.

II. Persecution at Dalian Labor Camp from April 2001 to December 2001

In the afternoon of April 24, 2001, a group of officers from Section 1 of Dalian Police Department, including Chen Xin, went to Wang Zhehao's home. They knocked on the door, and before he could answer, they broke in. They handcuffed Mr. Wang without any explanation and ransacked his home. Wang Zhehao asked, "Do you have any search warrant?" The police slapped his face several times and said, "Here you go, this is the search warrant for you!" The police took all his Dafa books, his computer and printer, and took Wang Zhehao to Section 1 of the police department. The next morning, a group of police officers slapped his face until his mouth was filled with blood, insisting that he must "confess." In the end he was locked up in a detention center for over 70 days.

Wang Zhehao said that when it was really difficult for him to endure the persecution at the detention center he would recite Lunyu, and through Dafa's power he was able to keep going day by day.

Wang Zhehao said, "In the end, I decided to hold a hunger strike [to protest the unlawful detention and abuse]. It was the first time I held a hunger strike and I felt awful. I was hungry and thirsty. The team leader on duty lied to me and said my family had found someone who could get me out in a day or two. I believed him. I indeed had that illusion. A few days later they did send me away, but it was to Dalian Labor Camp for three years. My heart sank and I almost had a nervous breakdown. Three years! It's too long.

"I held a hunger strike for two days at Division 5 of Dalian Labor Camp. Again I felt terrible as I was hungry and thirsty. They sent me to the Female Division to listen to the collaborators. I didn't listen to them, so they sent me to Class 2 of the Male Division that specializes in detaining Falun Gong practitioners. Jing Dianke was the head of the division. The next day they sent me to Class 4, where I studied and recited the Fa a lot, and my heart became calm and fulfilled. I decided to hold another hunger strike to protest the illegal detention and persecution. The division head took me to the Strictly Controlled Group on the 4th floor, where my hands and feet were tied on a bed. I held a hunger strike for only two days. Because I refused to write any guarantee statement, they sent me and more than ten other practitioners to Guanshan Labor Camp. We were the second group of practitioners to be sent there."

III. Persecution at Guanshan Labor Camp from December 2001 to April 2002

Wang Zhehao said he suffered a lot at Guanshan Labor Camp.

The first victim of the persecution was practitioner Zhu Xiaofei from Lushun. The guards shocked him with electric batons for a very long time because he refused to cooperate with the team leader of the guards and refused to do slave labor. The next victim was practitioner Jiang Yunsong. Wang Zhehao had written down from memory part of the lawsuits against Jiang Zemin being filed abroad and passed the information around. Practitioner Jiang Yunsong was reported to the team leader while reading the lawsuits material. The team leader asked him where he had gotten the materials from, but he kept silent.

The guards started to shock Jiang Yunsong with electric batons. It was in the evening and the atmosphere was very tense. Dafa practitioners were called out one by one and ordered to write something. Their handwriting was then compared to the lawsuits material, but the guards failed to recognize the handwriting. They beat Jiang Yunsong and detained him in solitary confinement, where it was particularly cold. They refused to let him wear a coat. Several inmates beat and kicked him and asked him who wrote the information on the lawsuits and who had given him the material, but he gritted his teeth and said nothing.

After a while, Dafa practitioners went to the team leader of the guards one after another to appeal for Jiang Yunsong. They eventually got Jiang Yunsong released back to his cell. It was after New Year's Day of 2002. Jiang Yunsong's face and mouth were covered with blisters from the electric shocks. There was dirt in his hair and his legs were badly injured from being repeatedly and violently kicked.

Later, these practitioners were sent to a division that specialized in the persecution of Falun Gong, and they remained there until April. On April 2, the division head called Wang Zhehao and told him to pack up. Then they handcuffed his hands behind his back and sent him to Benxi Labor Camp.

IV. Persecution at Benxi Labor Camp between April 2002 and 2003

The guards at Benxi Labor Camp created a false, casual atmosphere in order to deceive the practitioners into willingly "reforming." There were more collaborators there. The collaborators grabbed Wang Zhehao's hands and tried to force him to sign a "reform" statement. Wang Zhehao firmly refused to sign or write any statement.

Liang Benchun was the division head for new arrivals at Benxi Labor Camp. He wanted to "reform" Wang Zhehao in order to earn political credits for himself, and ordered Wang Zhehao to wear a prison uniform. Wang Zhehao firmly refused. Liang Benchun ordered a section head to detain Wang Zhehao in solitary confinement for over 20 days. It was very cold in the solitary confinement and Wang Zhehao was restricted to limited toilet visits. He was not given any water and was given only a small piece of steamed bun and a little broth at meal times.

Liang Benchun threatened Wang Zhehao, "I'll give you a taste of the iron fist of the proletarian dictatorship." Wang Zhehao pointed at him and said, "The proletarian dictatorship is shameless like you, who wouldn't even give me a sip of water. You are simply cruel and shameless." Liang Benchun turned around and left, looking dejected and ashamed. Later, he found an excuse and asked another group head to release Wang Zhehao from solitary confinement.

After the Chinese New Year in February, Wang Zhehao was sent to Huludao Labor Camp to be further persecuted. He was on the brink of death by then. The guards released him on medical parole after extorting 5,000 yuan from his family.
