Facts of the Persecution
1. The Persecution of the Steadfast Practitioners in Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, Changchun City
Mr. Qiao Renxi was an employee of the Zhazi Mine of the Tonghua Mine Company of Jilin Province. He was fired for insisting on practicing Falun Gong. On May 23, 2002, Mr. Qiao and other Falun Gong practitioners were taken to Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp. On arriving, the guards beat them and shocked them with electric batons. In the "Strictly Monitored Team," hardened criminals were charged with monitoring the practitioners. The directors ordered them to monitor and beat practitioners. They forced the practitioners to get up at 5:30 a.m. Each day started with sitting absolutely still on a hard board until 3 or 4 a.m. the next morning. They were awakened just as they were falling asleep. If the practitioners didn't sit on the board in the required pose, the criminals would beat them immediately.
They forced practitioners to step on the sharp-edged metal doorframe and then stomped on their feet. This torture was so painful that practitioners felt the bones in their feet break. They beat practitioner Mr. Sun Yufa with a wooden board all over his body. His body remained black and blue for a long time.
Every practitioner is forced to work regardless of their physical condition. Just two days before practitioner Mr. Bai Xiaojun passed away, he was forced to work.
Mr. Zhang Quanfu, a retired employee from the Sanchazi Forestry Bureau, contracted scabies when he was detained in No. 2 unit of the No. 6 team. He was forced to take baths in icy cold water. All the windows and doors were open while they poured cold water on him. He shook from the cold. During the last few days of his life, he couldn't eat anything at all. They ordered people to drag him to the dining room, then drag him back to his room and beat him again. This was done the day he passed away. That time the head of the unit beat him.

2. The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp
Practitioner Ms. Sun Xiangjie started a hunger strike when she was detained at the detention center. Then she was transferred in November 2004 to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, where she continued the hunger strike for 40 more days. When she could no longer endure the "Big Hang Up" (1) torture anymore, she signed the three statements. Afterwards, she couldn't walk for a long time.
Two female guards took turns stomping on Ms. Chang Shuhua's ankles and tortured her with the "Big Hang Up" for three hours, causing her to become mentally disoriented. The tortures caused her to become ill frequently. She was diagnosed with myocardial infarction, but was still forced to work 16 to 19 hours every day.
On May 12, 2004, more than ten practitioners were tortured by the "Big Hang Up" and beaten with electrical batons, including Ms. Li Hongmei, Ms. Hao Peijie, and Ms. Xiao Renping.
In March 2004, Ms. Ji Fengqin was transferred to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. She was hung on her bed for about six days. Then they tortured her using the "Big Hang Up" and shocked her with electric batons. Her face and neck were injured by the electric shocks, and her hands are still numb.
On July 10, 2004, Ms. Ma Guiyun was detained in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. She was hung up with handcuffs for so long that her arms turned black. They also shocked her with electric batons.
Note:
"Big Hanging Up" : There are two forms in of this torture: (1) With both hands cuffed behind the back and only the toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to the metal window frames; (2) One hand of a practitioner is cuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed, and the two beds are pulled in the opposite directions. It feels is extremely painful as the body is pulled.
