LOS ANGELES - Chinese and Westerners alike held a parade through Chinatown of Los Angeles to denounce China's human rights violations and mark the withdrawal of nearly 4 million from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The August 20 parade and rally was organized by The Greater Los Angeles/Orange County Global Quitting the CCP Service Center. This service center is one of many that have sprung up in cities around the U.S. and throughout the world to assist Chinese people in formally withdrawing from the CCP.

"My best friend died in the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre and an old childhood neighbor of mine lost both of his legs under the tank treads," said parade participant J. Yang, PhD., a scientist at the University of California in San Diego. "I want to show my support and let those courageous people inside China who have renounced the CCP know that they are not alone, and that we are supporting them."

The wave of CCP withdrawals began after The Epoch Times published a series of editorials at the end of 2004 entitled, Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. The Nine Commentaries reveal the uncensored history of the CCP and its legacy of tragedy, which has left 80 million Chinese dead from unnatural causes.

On August 18, Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party was honored by the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) with the top award in the category "Asian American Issues - Online" at the AAJA convention in Minneapolis.

"I have lived in America for 11 years, but only began to understand the true nature of the CCP after reading the Nine Commentaries," stated Dr. Yang.

"I grew up in China and my mom and dad still live there," said another parade participant, whose parents have been persecuted by the CCP. "They experienced persecution in their early life, during the Cultural Revolution, and now they are persecuted by the CCP for their belief in Falun Gong."

In the heat of the day, the parade contingent peacefully marched three times around Chinatown carrying banners and encouraging Chinese people to step forward and say goodbye forever to communism.

"I hope that Chinese people everywhere can see us and understand why we are walking today in this parade under the hot sun," said another participant in the parade. "I came to the parade to add my voice of hope."

"China is a great nation with a rich culture," said Dr. Yang. "The CCP has brought terror, killing and the destruction of tradition and culture. The CCP has brought too much misery to China, and it is time for Chinese people to wake up and free themselves from the CCP's control. "
