Who Broke Up Wang Pingjun's Family?

March 28, 2006

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Wang Pingjun was a Labor Bureau government official in Li County, Hebei Province. He had a happy family life. His wife is an upstanding person. His son, an employee of the local electric company, is a good son and his daughter-in-law, a staff member of the local police, is upright. Mr. Wang's grandson is a smart little boy.

Mr. Wang was fired from government service because he practices Falun Gong. He was detained twice in a forced labor camp, his son received a long sentence and his daughter-in-law was forced to divorce his son. His daughter was also detained in a forced labor camp. Because of the hardships this created for his family, Mr. Wang's wife moved to her hometown. Mr. Wang Pingjun is not young anymore, and yet he has to support his 60-year-old wife and more than 80-year-old father. During these years of being persecuted, they have had a rough life and have had to depend on relatives for financial help.

Today I would like to ask everyone, "Why does Wang Pingjun practice Falun Gong? Why was he fired from government service? Who is responsible for this elderly man's mental and physical suffering? Who has trampled on his rights and who has devastated him? Who broke up this happy family?" We are not condemning people, but are simply asking these questions as a means to expose the truth.

1. Dafa Gives Mr. Wang Pingjun a New Life -- The Entire Family Chooses Cultivation

Mr. Wang Pingjun suffered from chronic intestinal and gastric illnesses at the age of 13. By the time he turned 36, he suffered from insomnia, heart disease, urticaria and other illnesses. Between 1982 and 1997, he often caught a cold and suffered a low-grade fever. Mr. Wang felt miserable because he was always sick and suffering pain. He was often hospitalized and had to take medicine all the time. His heart disease gave him frequent trouble, especially at night. Sometimes he came down with an illness while on the way to work or when going home. Sometimes he fainted and fell down in the office conference room.

Even today, Wang Pingjun still remembers the evening of December 28, 1990. On his way home, Mr. Wang was riding a bicycle. His heart trouble suddenly overtook him. When the chest pressure and colic attacks became hard to bear, he lay down on the roadside. Fortunately he had his medication with him. He swallowed several pills. After a while he felt better and wanted to go home, but could not move. In December, it gets dark early, and there are very few people traveling on the road. Mr. Wang was in a desperate situation, as he was afraid that if he did not die from his illness, he might die from the cold. Luckily, a passerby helped him return home.

Mr. Wang's financial debt grew because of his long-term suffering, hospitalization and having to take medicine. He became desperate. In 1997, the County Committee placed Mr. Wang on a leave of absence for illness reasons. During that time, Wang Pingjun heard about the astonishing effects of practicing Falun Gong, and that people who practiced it became well. He decided to give it a try. After a year of practice, all his illnesses disappeared without trace. His body straightened out. Mr. Wang no longer needed glasses for his shortsightedness. He was no longer skinny. His weight actually increased to over 75 kgs. He felt that his entire body was light and he had become very energetic. When walking up steps he felt as if somebody was pushing him. He could ride a bike for great distances and not feel tired. He no longer had to take any medication. Mr. Wang had become healthy. Even after he was tortured during the persecution, he did not go back on medication, despite all the injuries to his body.

After seeing these changes, his family members also began to practice Falun Gong. The above is the reason for Mr. Wang's entire family practicing Falun Gong. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, someone berated Mr. Wang for encouraging his entire family to practice Falun Gong. He said, "I cannot take credit for this. I have never asked them to practice Falun Gong."

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. Mr. Wang suffered great mental pain and he was not sure what to do. He knew that Dafa gave him a new life, but since he had lived through the Cultural Revolution, he knew that whoever did not follow Communist Party dictates would be persecuted. He stopped practicing for a while. Within several months, all his diseases reoccurred. He again suffered his old heart problems, but even worse than before. He also suffered urinary system problems. Thus, he fully understood that Falun Gong is a good practice that teaches people to be kind and brings health to people. He realized that there is nothing wrong with being a good person. Therefore, he decided to practice Falun Gong again.

2. The Beginning of the Persecution: Loss of His Government Job, Sent to Forced Labor Camp Twice

On December 18, 1999, Mr. Wang's two children went to Beijing, to tell the government about the physical and mental benefits of practicing Falun Gong. They wanted to appeal for Falun Gong, which is every Chinese citizen's right under China's Constitution. They were illegally arrested, taken from Beijing to their hometown the same night, and detained at the county detention center. Mr. Wang was also implicated. On the morning of October 21, Mr. Wang was looking after his critically-ill mother at home. The police deceived him into going to the police station. From there he was taken to the county rest house for illegal interrogation. They tried to force him to reveal the names of the organizers of the appeal trips to Beijing, including the leaders' names. Mr. Wang was clear about this. The appeal was spontaneous and voluntary, and nobody organized it.

The authorities detained Mr. Wang for 37 days. Staff members of the County Commission for Discipline Inspection, which was responsible for the interrogation, often went out to eat and drink extravagantly and charged the Labor Ministry over 8,000 yuan for their expenses, including accommodations. The government officials of the Labor Bureau decided to deduct the money from Mr. Wang's retirement pay, and took out 500 yuan that month.

Mr. Wang returned home, but his two children did not. The 610 Office fined each of them 13,000 yuan, and they were not allowed to go home until it was all paid. It was close to the New Year, and the elders couldn't stop crying. Therefore, they decided to pay the fine, but, they were still 2,000 yuan short. They borrowed from many friends and relatives. The children returned home, but Mr. Wang's elderly mother could not endure such events and it aggravated her illness. She passed away on January 7. Before she died, she asked, "We borrowed several thousand yuan! How are we going to repay it?"

On April 25, 2001, Li Yingjie, the deputy director of the Li County Labor Bureau, asked Mr. Wang to come to the office. He told him to stay for a few days. Apparently, the 610 Office gave him a directive to have Mr. Wang attend a brainwashing session for Falun Gong practitioners, aimed at stopping them from going to Beijing to appeal. Mr. Wang did not know that this was illegal imprisonment, but understood intuitively that they were trying to restrict his freedom. He was not willing, but agreed as a good-will gesture.

Mr. Wang did not expect six to seven policemen from the Chengguan Local Police Station to break into his home, ransacked it and illegally arrest him on April 27, 2001, the third day that he was detained in his former office. Someone even offered a 200-yuan bonus for any other Falun Gong practitioner being brought in. Mr. Wang became very annoyed once he learned of this incident, and said to Director Li, "I cooperated with you, but it made me look guilty. I will no longer cooperate with you." He left his workplace on the morning of April 30.

After ten days, his former office sent people to look for him everywhere. They asked one of his brothers to tell him that nothing would happen to him if he agreed to return to the office before May 11. Mr. Wang again believed them. He believed that he could return home. Unfortunately, the Communist Party had other plans. His workplace again locked him up, and two people monitored him around the clock. They brought in people to "transform" him. Mr. Wang did not understand why he needed to be "transformed,"or what the outcome of the "transformation" was to be. After some time, Li Yingjie asked him to complete a form. Mr. Wang finally understood what "transformation" meant in his case. He was required to renounce Falun Gong and curse his Teacher and Falun Dafa. He was confused. The Teacher of Falun Gong had cured his illnesses and given him a healthy body. How could he curse his Teacher? How could he bite the hand that fed him? He wondered how this inhumane and unjust behavior was different from the behavior of an animal? Mr. Wang remained firm in his belief.

One day afterwards, Li Yingjie told Wang Pingjun that his wages would be stopped starting in May. Someone in the know told him that if he did not tell about the recent Falun Gong activities in Li County, he would be taken to a forced labor camp. Therefore, Mr. Wang left home and became homeless to escape the persecution.

From July 1, 2001, to November 4, 2002, Mr. Wang was destitute and often without a home. He picked medicinal herbs and sold snacks. On days he could not afford to buy food, he dug up wild greens. At that time, the police looked everywhere for him. They hoped to catch him at the homes of his relatives and friends. They showed his photo to people everywhere, and tried to find his wife as well. On October 3, 2001, the police broke into Mr. Wang's home by kicking in the door and pulling down the top of the wall surrounding his home. After they failed to find him, they arrested his wife and detained her without due cause for seven months.

On November 4, 2002, Zhang Zhujun, the head of Baoxu Village reported on Mr. Wang. Peng Xiaowu from the Baoxu Local Police Station arrested him and took him to the county detention center. (The person who arrested him was later killed by a car. Here we warn those still persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners: if you do not turn around and make up for the damage you have caused, you will meet with punishment, as ordained by heaven.)

While in detention, the police tortured Mr. Wang. They tied him to a metal chair for four days and nights. Policeman Zhu Bin slapped his face many times, kicked his feet with leather boots, lifted his legs with sticks, and beat his arms. Afterwards, he could not lift his arms for two weeks. Mr. Wang's heart problems reoccurred. The prisoners who monitored him forced him to work, and said, "Here there are no elders and no patients, but only workers." After two days, Mr. Wang was taken to the detention center. The County Commission for Discipline Inspection cancelled his party membership. On the eighth day, the Labor Department removed him from government service.

On January 18, 2003, Mr. Wang was sentenced to forced labor. He suffered inhuman abuse and torture at the Baoding Forced Labor Camp. He suffered sleep deprivation for five days and nights. The persecutors took turns monitoring him. They forced him to stand for up to an entire day, and to work overtime for as long as 13 to 14 hours. Mr. Wang became emaciated from the torture he was subject to. All his illnesses reoccurred, including his former intestinal problems, heart disease, and high blood pressure. On October 10, when it was raining, this critically ill elderly man was finally freed into that bad weather at night.

Mr. Wang's wife left for her hometown, as she had no means of financial support. A good family was broken up. The husband/father was sentenced to forced labor, the son was sentenced to prison, and the daughter-in-law had left with the beloved grandson. Besides having to endure the pain of being separated, relatives whose minds had been poisoned by the Communist Party propaganda expressed disdain, scorn and contempt for her. She wanted to cry, but had no tears, and could only silently endure. She had no money and no food left in the house. She had no choice but to eat at others' homes, one meal at a time, and often only one meal a day. She lived with financial help from relatives, friends and neighbors. Now, the emaciated Wang Pingjun, who was on the verge of death, returned home. One problem after another! They had difficulty feeding themselves. How could they treat his illnesses and take care of him?

In his hour of need, Mr. Wang thought of Teacher and Dafa. He began to read Zhuan Falun and after three months, he became healthy again. Another miracle happened - he became healthy without any medicine. But, now what could he do? He was not strong enough to do manual labor and had no money to start a business. He already owed much to others, as he had borrowed money from relatives and friends over the several years of persecution. There was no one he could ask for more money.

It is not wrong to be a good person nor is it wrong to persist in one's belief. Mr. Wang served his country during his lifetime. He should have support in his old age. He realized that he should ask for his retirement pension. Mr. Wang had all the necessary documents. He found the relevant government officials. They all claimed that they had never seen these documents. Staff from the 610 Office questioned him about the source of the documents. Xu Yonggang appeared to be flustered and said, "We have documents from the city. We also have many internal files you do not know about." Mr. Wang suddenly understood: the Communist Party behaves outside the law. What they say is different from what they do behind someone's back. What kind of concern do they have for common people's lives? What do they care if people die? Isn't "killing Falun Gong practitioners" treated as suicide? Jiang Zemin's orders are, "Immediately cremate without checking the identity." What is that so-called internal document? Xu Yonggang said, "If you continue to practice, you will not get your retirement pay." He laughed wildly, and the other people in the whole room also burst into laughter. Mr. Wang felt cold over his entire body. The wild laughter eliminated all trust he still held in the Communist Party and the people in charge.

Because he was living in hardship, Wang Pingjun wrote to County Secretary Lu Kunli, and spoke with County Deputy Secretary Ning Hongmao. Ning told him, "Who told you that it was wrong to send you to forced labor camp? Your prison term is not fully served yet. You should return to prison." When Mr. Wang went to see Ning Hongmao again, he was not allowed to see him. Tian Lihui had told him earlier, "You are free from your illnesses. You should be put back in prison now." Wang Pingjun could not understand, "Go back where? Return to the forced labor camp?" He did not think that the Communist regime would take him back to the labor camp. On August 26, 2004, Ning Hongmao, Wang Jianying (610 Office chief) and others, had Mr. Wang taken again to the Baoding Forced Labor Camp.

Mr. Wang Pingjun returned to the place where he almost died, and again suffered inhuman torture. The person who monitored him was just over 30 years old. He said to Mr. Wang, "You are under my jurisdiction now and under my care." After saying that, he handcuffed Mr. Wang's hands to a bed, and said, "You must behave well and watch the video, or I will punish you." They made Mr. Wang watch videos that slandered Falun Dafa from about 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. daily. They placed the TV in front of him, turned the volume on loud, and did not allow him to turn his head or close his eyes. He was confused, disoriented and exhausted at all times. Mr. Wang is old, and had to use the toilet frequently. However given his situation, it was not easy to use the toilet. He often had to restrain himself for several hours. Sometimes he could no longer hold the urge to go to the bathroom and he begged the guard to let him go. The guard had been awakened from sleep and shouted abuse, "Don't drink water, and eat less." Mr. Wang became ill again. His heart was too fast, and he suffered hypertension. The authorities did not release him. They handcuffed him to the bed around the clock. When he became critically ill, they stopped persecuting him. When he turned for the better, they intensified their torture. Mr. Wang became critically ill, and the guards felt that he had no hope of surviving. Therefore, they notified his family to take him home.

3. Wang Pingjun's Son Wang Xianghui Sentenced

Mr. Wang Pingjun's son, Mr. Wang Xianghui, was an accountant at the Guodan Station of the Li County Electricity Office. He was well liked and was a good worker. He treated people fairly and everyone recognized that he was a good person.

During the two party congress meetings in March 2001, to prevent Falun Gong practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal for justice, and under orders from the 610 Office, staff from Wang Xianghui's place of work arrested him along with Liu Xikun, another practitioner. They kept them at the office and monitored them. At that time, the Electric Power office was busy with low pressure transformation. Manpower was in short supply. Therefore they stopped monitoring practitioners. The two practitioners just left and went home. The director general was furious, and told people to bring them back to the office. The chief of the Human Resources Section announced that he would cancel their contract, would "watch their attitude" for a year, and then have them return to work at the station at the lower wage of 400 yuan. They also sent people to monitor practitioners, did not allow them to go home, and tried to force them to write a guarantee statement that they would no longer practice Falun Gong. Mr. Wang Xianghui continued to work hard, although his work contract had been terminated. Since the contract was terminated, he did not understand why they did not let him go home and why they restricted his freedom. Mr. Wang Xianghui refused to renounce Falun Gong.

In early April, the Electric Power human resources office and local police arrested Mr. Wang Xianghui and took him back to the office. They asked him if he would continue to practice Falun Gong. He answered that he would continue practicing, so he was detained in the Li County Detention Center. He was released after 13 days, because of pressure from the public. In early June, when Mr. Wang Xianghui was resting at home, the local police and the Electric Power human resources office arrested him again and took him to the Balizhuang Brainwashing Center. He was ordered to write the guarantee statement and curse Teacher and Dafa. He could not bear this insult, and escaped. He became homeless to escape the persecution. On August 28, 2002, Mr. Wang Xianghui was sentenced to serve in prison for clarifying the truth and exposing the fabricated "Tiananmen Self-immolation incident."

Mr. Wang Xianghui's wife was also implicated several times, and was nearly dismissed from her job. She and her son cried all the time. Once she told her husband that she only lived for the sake of their son. The 6-year-old said to his mother all day long, "I miss Daddy! When can Daddy come back?" Because of the pressure and threats, she feared to be implicated again and nobody would look after her son, so she was forced into divorcing her beloved husband.

Elderly people simply want to be good people, have a healthy body and enjoy the years left to them. Because of the pressure from the CCP, good people cannot follow this dream in China. Who created all these problems for Mr. Wang Pingjun? Who caused his family to be broken up? The inhumane persecution is perpetrated all around us. We are telling the story of Mr. Wang Pingjun because we know his story. However, among Falun Gong practitioners in China, there are tens of thousands of stories like that of Wang Pingjun's!
