A Seventy-Year-Old Woman from Sichuan Province Is Sentenced to Three Years in a Forced Labor Camp for Practicing Falun Gong

March 9, 2006

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Hu Minghua is a 70-year-old resident of Zigong City, Sichuan Province. In order to rescue people who were deceived by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), she told them the facts about Falun Gong and how the CCP persecutes Falun Gong and its practitioners. She was detained in the Zizhong Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp twice. In March 2005 Ms. Hu went to Da'an District to distribute truth-clarifying material, and someone reported her. She was arrested and detained in the Wuyuncun Detention Center and was subjected to brainwashing, but Ms. Hu's belief in Falun Dafa couldn't be shaken. In early October 2005 Ms. Hu Minghua was secretly sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp as a political prisoner.

Before Ms. Hu practiced Falun Gong, she suffered from nephritis, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases and rheumatoid arthritis. She was confrontational and haggled over every penny she spent. After she started practicing Falun Gong in 1997 she became a different person; one who is healthy, kind, sincere, modest, and always willing to help others.

In March 2005 Ms. Hu went to Da'an District to distribute truth-clarifying material. Someone reported her to the police and she was arrested. She was then detained at the Wuyuncun Detention Center, where they attempted to forcibly brainwash her. The guards repeatedly played TV programs slandering Falun Dafa and its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, and ordered some inmates to watch Ms. Hu in shifts, keeping her under surveillance 24 hours a day. The guards tried all kinds of ways to intimidate and entice her into signing a Repentance Statement, but she firmly believes in Teacher and Dafa, and she knows there is nothing wrong with practicing Falun Gong and telling people the facts, so none of their tricks worked on her.

While Ms. Hu was detained at the Wuyuncun Detention Center, the guards used psychological and physical torture to persecute her. The guards intentionally housed her with inmates infected with pulmonary tuberculosis, which led to her becoming infected as well. Details on this are still unknown.

More than half a year's physical and mental torture couldn't shake Ms. Hu's belief, so the police fabricated evidence on which to accuse Ms. Hu. In early October 2005, when 70-year-old Ms. Hu was sick and couldn't defend herself, the court branded her a political prisoner and sentenced her to three years of forced labor.

According to the CCP's laws, defendants have the right to appeal within 15 days of sentencing. Ms. Hu, however, was very weak and had no strength at all due to the torture she'd endured, so she couldn't even manage to ask her family to appeal for her. The police didn't want her family to know about her sentence or her health, so they waited until the appeal period had passed (around October 21), and notified her daughter to send some clothes for her the day before she was to be sent to prison. Her daughter arrived that afternoon. Ms. Hu needed help to walk to her daughter. Seeing her once healthy mother too weak to walk by herself, her daughter was sad and mournful, but dared not say anything.

The next morning, Ms. Hu was transferred to the Chuanxi Prison for Women in Hong'an Town, Chengdu City. She was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis, one of the contagions closely monitored by the World Health Organization. It's beyond ordinary people's imagination to believe that the CCP would use such a dirty trick to persecute a 70-year-old woman for practicing "Truthfulness - Compassion - Forbearance" and secretly sentence her as a political prisoner on false evidence.

After Ms. He was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis, she was isolated for treatment for two months. During that time her family wasn't allowed to visit her. Again, inmates were ordered to monitor her, and the guards repeatedly played TV programs slandering Falun Dafa and its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi. Meanwhile, they tried to convince her that they were giving her preferential treatment by giving her imported medicine. They even spoke about prison as though it were paradise, where she wouldn't need to worry about food or housing.

How evil it is! This is the trick that the CCP has been playing all along in order to rule and control the Chinese people. While they are brutally persecuting a person, they suddenly shift gears, pretending to be kind and nice to the person to make the victim grateful for their kindness. Their only purpose is to "transform" the good people who practice "Truthfulness - Compassion - Forbearance" into their slaves.
