Candlelight vigil
Hunger strike participants announced, "We start this hunger strike solemnly, not only for our fellow practitioners who have been persecuted to death in Mainland China, but also to wake up consciences, to wake up the Chinese people who have been deceived by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and to wake up organizations and individuals who cooperate with the CCP for short-term profits."
Many police came to the candlelight vigil and practitioners clarified the truth about the persecution to them. They asked what the significance of July 20 was to practitioners. Practitioners explained that over the last seven years, ever since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, Falun Gong practitioners in China have experienced brutal persecution, and practitioners overseas have been clarifying the truth to governments, media and the public. Together, Falun Gong practitioners have resisted the persecution for these past seven years.
