European Media: the European Union Should Adjust the Unbalanced Relationship with Communist China

Aug. 11, 2006

(Clearwisdom.net) The Central News Agency reported on August 5 that the European Union is expected to attempt to establish new bilateral relations during a summit with China in September. Some European media expressed that the European Union should take the opportunity to adjust the EU’s unbalanced and inferior position in the relationship with China. The articles pointed out that the human rights situation in China is not truly improved and that the recent incident of forced organ "donation" from Falun Gong practitioners is an obvious example.

One report remarked that according to latest issue of the "European Voice", a weekly newspaper of Brussels, Commissioner for European Union Trade Mandelson and Commissioner for External Relations Ferrero Waldner will release a policy review report on a new basis for a bilateral relationship in the "Euro-Sino Summit" to be held in September at Helsinki. It is expected that a new proposal will be brought up to replace the bilateral relations agreement passed in 1985.

Freelance reporter Fleming pointed out in the July 13-19 issue of "European Voice" that the excessively weak stand of the European Union in free trade with China is very disappointing.

The report pointed out that the same situation exists on the issue of human rights. China is able to negotiate on the matter from a position of strength without really improving the human rights situation in China. An obvious example is the forced "donation" of organs by Falun Gong practitioners.
