Look Inward to Eliminate "Sleep Demons"

Nov. 2, 2007 |   By a practitioner in Changyi City, Shandong Province

(Clearwisdom.net) For a long time, I have been interfered with greatly by sleep demons when studying the Fa. I usually did not study much and frequently felt sleepy. I could not put up with the sleepiness and had to stop studying the Fa to go sleep. I could not break though this problem and wasted a lot of Fa-study time.

Today when I studied the Fa, I felt sleepy again. I tried to tolerate it for a little while and I sent righteous thoughts many times. However, I was still dazed and my mind was not clear. I knew that I should overcome the problem, and I decided to make a breakthrough. This time I thought of what Master said:

"Whenever there is interference of one kind or another in qigong practice, you should look for reasons within yourself and determine what you still have not let go." ("Demonic Interference in Cultivation," Lecture Six, Zhuan Falun)

I then carefully looked inward for what I still had not let go.

The answer came after I continued looking inward. Actually, I had not let go of a particular incorrect thought. Whether I am tired or not, after work, my first thought is to rest because I have been busy the whole day. When I even see the bed, I feel sleepy and want to go to bed early. Even before I study the Fa, I already have the thought of sleepiness. How could I not be interfered with by the demon of sleep when I studied the Fa in such a state? Before I study the Fa, there is the thought of sleep in my inner heart. It is an incorrect notion of feeling tired.

Master told us that we should have right minds; otherwise, there will be demonic interference. Because my mind was not right, it attracted the old forces to stop me from studying the Fa by using the demon of sleep. As I write this article, I understand that we should study the Fa with a right mind. We should have righteous thoughts and focus our minds. We should especially not have thoughts of sleepiness or laziness deep in our minds. Only when we do that can we study the Fa well without being interfered with by the demon of sleep.
