Qi Changping from Suining City, Sichuan Province Recounts the Persecution She Has Suffered Over the Past Eight Years

Dec. 30, 2007 |   By Qi Changping, a practitioner in Sichuan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Over the course of eight years, I have been arrested numerous times and put into a forced labor camp twice. Police have also repeatedly broken into and raided my home.

Detained and persecuted for going to Beijing to clarify the truth

My name is Qi Changping and I am 61 years old. I am a farmer in Liangfeng Township, Anju District, Suining City, Sichuan Province. I became a Falun Dafa practitioner in June of 1996.

On January 15, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. I went to Beijing by train and visited the Appeals Office. It was full of police and plainclothes detectives standing along the streets at Yongding Gate. One of the police officers stopped me and asked me where I was going. There were also many police officers inside the Appeals Office. They gave each of us a form and after we filled them out, we were taken to another room and told to sit and wait. After a while, we were taken away to the Liaison Office in Beijing. I was taken away by a man surnamed Mi, Head of the Suining Liaison Office in Beijing.

We were then locked in a room. Two days later, a Suining official named Wang Benhua came by. We stayed in Beijing for several days, and then they took us back. We arrived in Suining the afternoon of January 21. We were handcuffed and sent to the Wujiawan Detention Center.

I was detained there for 15 days. Police officer Wu ordered us to recite the prison rules. He handed each of us a copy of the prison rules and wanted to charge us five yuan for it. We didn't cooperate with him, because we were not criminals and should not have been imprisoned. When he saw us practicing Falun Gong, he started yelling obscenities and set a dog on us. They let us go on February 8.

Persecuted by CCP officials many times and my first sentence to a forced labor camp

One afternoon at the beginning of the 2000 Chinese New Year, government officials Chen Zhiyong, Tang Yuying and village cadres Yang Zhiyou and Zhang Xingquan pushed me into a car and took me to the town government building. Chen Zhiyong asked Liu Yongjun to interrogate me. Liu Yongjun ordered me to write a guarantee statement, but I refused to comply. They extorted five thousand yuan from my family and transferred me to the police station at 6:00 p.m. that day. They handcuffed me to a metal pipe in a small dark room. I was not allowed to go to the restroom, so I had to relieve myself in the room. They only unlocked the handcuffs at meal times, and once I finished, they handcuffed me again. I was detained like this for eight days and my family couldn't bear it. They begged for my freedom, and were extorted out of another three thousand yuan before I was released.

On June 25, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong again. In the morning of June 27, I was stopped by a police officer after getting off a train. I was sent to the Liaison Office by two young plainclothes detectives and detained there for three days. I was taken back to the Lanjiang Town Police Station by town official Wang Benhua and Tang Faneng after 8:00 pm. I was then sent to Wujiawan Detention Center the next afternoon by Yang Chao from the police station. I should have been freed on July 15th, but was still imprisoned there because it was close to "July 20", the anniversary of the start of the persecution against Falun Gong.

On July 18, I went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. I was then dragged to the duty room by five people sent by superintendent Luo and pinned on a long bench. They forcibly injected me with some unknown drugs. On August 1, my husband came. I did not know how much the officials made him pay this time, but I was released.

One day in the middle of August, my sister-in-law and I went to see my younger sister, who was detained in the Wujiawan Detention Center. Superintendent Luo then detained me for more than one month with no reason, and sentenced me to one year of forced labor.

On October 10, 2000, officers from the Suining Police Department sent me to the Nanmu Temple Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zizhong. They subjected us to brainwashing with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ideology. If someone refused to cooperate, she was forced to stand next to the wall for long periods of time, pose in military positions, kneel down on the ground for long periods of time, or run. If we did not run fast enough, then we were punched and kicked.

In the middle of May 2001, I was released and went back home.

Arrested again

On February 7, 2002, I was reported to the police when I distributed truth-clarification materials at Buyun. Police officers arrested me and took me to the Baima Police Station. They handcuffed me in a position called "Carrying a Sword in the Back." Officer Zhou punched and verbally abused me, and he also groped me indecently. He shouted, "Let's give her a good beating. Even if she is beaten to death, we have no legal responsibilities." He took me to a big room and inquired about the source of the truth-clarification materials, my name, address, etc. I refused to answer, so they handcuffed me to the metal window bars.

At 4:00 p.m. one day, police officer Zhou sent me to the Linquansi Detention Center in Suining City. I asked Zhou to return the 300 yuan he had taken from me, but he refused.

I was illegally imprisoned for 40 days in Lingquansi Detention Center. In the afternoon of March 16, a policeman told me to pack up my possessions and said that I would be released. Instead, I was sent to the Wujiawan Detention Center.

In the beginning of April, three officials from the Domestic Security Division came and ordered me to give them my finger print. Five people held me down and another person held one of my hands. Another was pressing my head down, while two others were beating me on the back and legs with a spiked wooden club. I clenched my fist and they were unable to open it. We were like this for more than ten minutes. I called out to Master and repeated, "Falun Dafa is good." They gave up, and then dragged me to sit on a tiger bench and didn't release me until later that evening.

In the middle of April, a police officer wanted me to sign a notice about being sentenced to forced labor. I said that I did nothing wrong, and tore the paper to shreds. The police officer beat me heavily on my back and kicked me. After two days, I was dragged to walk around a dam while wearing handcuffs and shackles until the night.

On May 10, I was sent to a forced labor camp.

Sent to labor camp a second time and my husband passing away

I was sent to the No. 5 Team in the forced labor camp, where there were two inmates assigned to each practitioner to monitor and torture them. On the first two days, we were flooded with CCP ideology and forced to watch TV programs with lies about Master and Dafa or programs singing praises of the CCP. If we refused to watch, we were ordered to stand in military postures for long periods of time.

After the Chinese New Year of 2003, Meng Qing [a former practitioner who turned against Dafa due to CCP pressure and brainwashing] thought of another way to torment us. They filled us up with eight bowls of cold water and did not allow us to go to the restroom. My two assigned inmates, Hu Rong and Lin Fengjiao, forced me to drink the water. I drank three bowls of water and told them that I could not drink any more. They said, "Then we will fill you with water." They came at me in a fury, pressed me to the ground and pulled me to bathroom. In the process, my back was cut and bleeding, causing my clothes to stick to my back. In the bathroom, they held me down on the ground and forced-fed me with several bowls of cold water. At each meal, I could only have a mouthful of food and had to drink the water.

I was not allowed to go to the restroom, so I had to relieve myself in my own clothes. After I relieved myself, they took off my clothes to clean the ground, threw them into the trash, and told me to pay 40 yuan for buying a mop. At night, they didn't allow me to go to sleep, and I was forced to stand for the whole night. The cold wind cut through my thin clothes and my pants were wet with urine. I trembled constantly, my teeth chattered and my legs became swollen due to the continuous standing.

I suffered torment in the labor camp while my husband suffered from anxiety, fear and high pressure. He was harassed by policemen continuously, and his health went from bad to worse. My husband was seriously ill and nobody was looking after him. With his deteriorated condition, the labor camp officials granted me a temporary release, for three days, to look after my husband. When I saw my husband lying in the hospital bed, reduced to skin and bones, I was devastated.

Back at the labor camp, I missed and worried about my husband, hardly sleeping or eating. I applied for permission to go back home to take care of my very ill husband. Two weeks later I got the approval, but my husband had passed away by then.

Leaving home again to avoid further persecution

At the end of December 2003, I was released at last. I started doing odd jobs at a kindergarten to make ends meet.

In the morning of October 7, 2004, someone broadcast the facts about Falun Gong from a building next to the kindergarten. The building was thoroughly searched and two fellow practitioners, Lu Yanfei and Zhang Zhaojing, were arrested.

At noon on October 7, three policemen arrested me and two other practitioners. They took us to Chengxi Police Station. After being punched and kicked for a while, we were sent to Wujiawan Detention Center.

In the morning of October 9, Zhang Zhaojing and I were transferred to Lingquan Temple Detention Center, and we were jailed there for more than 20 days. Zhang Zhaojing was illegally sentenced to forced labor camp for two years.

On October 11, 2006, a fellow practitioner and I went to the streets of Daying County to clarify the truth. When we were distributing materials at a heating appliance shop, someone came in and started asking people what kind of literature they had in their hands. At that time I had an unrighteous thought, "I hope he will not report us." Later while we were at a restaurant, two policemen stopped us and tried to arrest us.

People crowded around, and I said, "Villagers, we are acting according to the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, but they want to arrest us. What is the law for? Please remember that Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance is good." One police officer pulled the other practitioner out of the restaurant and took a picture of her. A police car arrived, and they pushed this fellow practitioner into the car. A police officer grabbed my granddaughter from me, handed her to a woman in the car, and pushed me into the car too. My granddaughter was scared and cried loudly. We were sent to the No 1 Police Station, as people there were getting off work. We put copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and other materials in their offices. After a while, an official came and we explained the facts to him. Under the compassionate care of Master, we walked out of the police station an hour later.

On June 28, 2007, policemen in Suining City destroyed the local truth-clarification materials production center and arrested many Falun Gong practitioners. After that they searched for me everywhere. They claimed that there was a 1,000-yuan reward for my capture. I was thus forced to leave home and go from place to place to avoid arrest.
