Investigation Lead: More Than 100 Liver Transplants Performed at Beijing's Youan Hospital in 2006 (Photos)

March 22, 2007

(Clearwisdom.net) The Falun Dafa Association and Minghui website [Chinese version of Clearwisdom] founded the "Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China" on April 4, 2006. The coalition calls for people from all walks of life and any organization to form a united investigation front to gather possible leads for investigations of illegal organ harvesting. The following are some leads we obtained recently. We hope all those who have special knowledge about such activities will assist us in continuing to expose the inside stories of officials in labor camps, prisons, and hospitals in China that are colluding with each other to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Together we are striving to end this persecution.

Investigation lead: more than 100 liver transplants performed at Liver Transplant Center at the Youan Hospital in 2006

More than 100 liver transplants were performed at the Liver Transplant Center at the Youan Hospital in Beijing in 2006; seven liver transplants in the last week of December alone.

Youan Hospital Head and also Party secretary Li Ning was the former deputy head of the Chaoyang Hospital in Beijing. He performed a large number of liver transplants at the Chaoyang Hospital and carried out six transplants within one week at the Youan Hospital.

The number of liver transplants done suggests that the Chinese Communist Party continues to harvest organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. The medical staff at the Youan Hospital involved in these transplant surgeries are unfortunately little better than a bunch of criminals.

Investigation lead: airlifted kidney points to CCP coordination of nationwide live organ banks

An article entitled "Life-Saving Kidney Lands in Island-City" from December 27, 2006, was published on page A9 of Peninsula Metropolitan News in Qingdao City, Shandong Province. The article did not mention the source of the kidney with blood type O, except a brief sentence, "a hospital in northeast China provided the matching kidney." Only 16 days elapsed between a patient having been diagnosed with uremia and completion of a kidney transplant, including the time it took to find and transport the originally scarce kidney for blood type O. The "miraculous speed" further validates the existence of nationwide live organ banks.

Investigation lead: organs of suspicious origin transplanted at the Xiangfan City Central Hospital in Xiangfan City, Hubei Province

An article entitled "Good Kidney in a Family Member Means More Than Love" published on November 28, 2006 on the upper right corner of the city news page in the 54th edition of Chutian Metropolitan News in Hubei Province reports the story of 51 year-old Ms. Yang Xinxiu who donated a kidney to her 28-year-old son at Xiangfan City Central Hospital.

The article also says, "Kidney transplant is 'nothing special' for the Urology Department at this hospital [Xiangfan City Central Hospital]. Shi Hongbo, head of the Urology Department, claims more than 180 kidney transplants have been performed at the hospital, although family donation accounts for only five of the surgeries...Statistics show donating a kidney among family members is a widespread practice in foreign countriesâ€"they make up 25% kidney transplants in the U.S., 40% in Norway, 85% in Turkey, but only 2% in our country. The percentage in Xiangfan City is below the national average." (Liu Shangkun is the correspondent and Zhu Xiaomin is the reporter).

Judging from the current trend, according to media reports, if every family organ donation is made widely known, it should be even more for the donation from strangers. However, among the total 180 kidney transplants performed at the Xiangfan City Central Hospital, only five of them were between family members; the remaining 175 are rarely reported. This anomaly is enough to raise suspicion that the organs do not come from voluntary donation but from forced extraction.

Investigation lead: Tongren Hospital in Beijing participates in many kinds of transplant surgery

Tongren Hospital is a Beijing Eye Specialty Hospital, however, it also has a flourishing transplant center. The Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) has listed it among the second group of targets for investigation and evidence collection. The following are two pictures from the Tongren Hospital website. The first shows staff of the transplant center, and the second is part of advertisement on the website. They could be testimony to or participants in the organ harvesting of living Falun Gong practitioners

Investigation lead: black market-like sale of livers for transplants

Several days ago I spoke with an acquaintance and told him about the Communist Party's harvesting of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners and selling them for profit. He told me a story about his relative who was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2000 and needed a liver transplant. They contacted the Hospital Affiliated with the Fourth Military Medical University in Xian City. People there told his relative's family to pick up the liver in Shenyang City. The cost to his family was 70,000 Yuan. It was not a hospital or a government agency but an airport, where a man wearing dark sunglasses and a face mask gave them a box with the liver inside and took the money.

The relative's family was suspicious and confused, because the transaction felt like a secretive black market trade. The doctor at the military-affiliated hospital in Xian City assured them of the great quality of the liver but did not explain the "deal."

I told my acquaintance there are 36 concentration camps in China where Dafa practitioners' organs are harvested while the practitioners are alive; that China has become the largest source for human organs and transplant centers since the Communist Party started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, as China supplies 85% of the human organs transplanted in the world. The acquaintance finally understood the reason why the sale of the liver for transplant was so secretive, and he realized the brutality of the Communist Party.
