After Failing to Arrest Falun Gong Practitioners, Qidong County Police (Hunan Province) Arrest Their Relatives

Aug. 7, 2007

(Clearwisdom.net) Qidong County 610 Office agents and National Security officials in Hunan Province recently carried out a large-scale raid of Falun Gong practitioners. They took away the practitioners' relatives when they could not find the practitioners themselves.

Since mid-May 2007, "610 Office" agents and National Security officials have launched another round of illegal search, arrest and home ransacking and have imposed fines against Falun Gong practitioners. Fifteen Falun Gong practitioners were arrested in less than two weeks between June 15 and July 10. Several practitioners were tortured and interrogated, while nearly half of the arrested practitioners are still being illegally detained.

The police seized the practitioners' family members during their searches when they could not find the practitioners at their homes. For instance, they seized practitioner Zhou Jianping's brother-in-law when they learned that Zhou Jianping had gone to another city for work.

The police suddenly broke into the home of 42-year-old Ms. Peng Sumei in the evening of June 29, 2007. They took away a 10,000-Yuan bank deposit slip, 3,000 Yuan in cash, a copy of Zhuan Falun, several copies of Minghui Weekly, and other Falun Gong materials. They took Peng Sumei to the National Security Division, where they stabbed her all over with steel wires in an attempt to find out the source of the Falun Gong materials. Ms. Peng Sumei broke free that evening with the power of her righteous thoughts. When the police realized that she was gone, they were furious. They arrested Peng Sumei's husband and demanded that he turn his wife in. He eventually agreed to leave his bank deposit slip and cash the officers took from his home at the Security Bureau as a form of guarantee before he was allowed to go home. Ms. Peng Sumei has since gone into exile to avoid further persecution.

Ms. Peng Fang, 45, was home alone taking a shower in the evening of June 29, 2007 when a group of police officers broke down her front door before she had a chance to answer it. They ransacked her home and took her and some of her personal belongings to the National Security Division, where they shocked her with electric batons and hung her up by her handcuffs for four days. She was covered in wounds, and her thighs were bruised and swollen. She is still being held at the county detention center. The police stated that they would send her to a labor camp. Her husband and son are working in another city and are not aware of her arrest.

Ms. Zhou Zhonglian, 58, was on her way home from a stroll at 10:00 p.m. on June 24, 2007 when she saw a person trying to remove a Falun Gong poster. She approached that person and advised him not to do it before continuing her walk. A few seconds later, police arrested her and took her to the National Security Division, where she was tortured. As a result, she lapsed into a coma and was taken to the county hospital emergency room, where she is still being treated.

Mr. Kuang Zongrao, 56, was arrested in the evening of June 4, 2007. He was handcuffed and hung up for seven days and nights at the county National Security Division. Following his arrest, his mother and sickly wife, who depended on him, are left with no source of income.

Ms. He Qionghui, 53, was arrested. The police broke into her home at 10:00 p.m. on June 2, 2007 and took her to the county detention center, where she is being held. The police have threatened to send her to a forced labor camp.

They ransacked it and arrested Kuang Cheng when they found computers and printers there. He is being held at the county detention center. The police said that they would sentence Kuang Cheng and his wife to prison because their home is a Falun Gong materials production site.

Mr. Zhou Guangquan, 54, was taken to Hengyang City Brainwashing Center on June 28, 2007. The police pressured him to work as a spy and constantly threatened him with the possibility of severe punishment if he refused to comply with their demands.

Ms. Qiu Yuxiu is 59 years old. Several police officers broke into her home at 3:00 p.m. on July 6, 2007 and took her away without any explanation. Her husband followed the police and demanded his wife's release. The police couldn't come up with any legitimate reason for the arrest, so they released her at 7:00 p.m. that same day.

Mr. Jiang Shunjin, 63, was taken away by the police in the morning of July 8, 2007. The police released him after three days because they failed to find incriminating evidence against him.
