My Father and New Tang Dynasty Television

Jan. 23, 2008 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Beijing

(Clearwisdom.net) My father is 74 years old. He is a kindhearted person and a man of few words. He has been a Communist Party member for over 30 years. During the Cultural Revolution, although he was not persecuted directly, he was scared to death of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). If you talk about how bad and evil the CCP is, he will agree with you wholeheartedly. He despises the Party very much because he has a much deeper understanding of the Party than most people of our generation. However, if anyone said that the CCP is about to disintegrate, he would not believe it. He would say, "It will not fall apart even after I die. They still hold the guns in their hands. There is no trick or deceit too vicious for them to exploit. Who dares to go against the CCP? Wouldn't that be inviting death?"

At the end of 2004, after the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party was published, I found him a copy. After he read it, he would not return it to me no matter what. He said that if the CCP knew we had this book in our home, our whole family would go to jail. He eventually stopped worrying, but always kept an eye on me and was afraid that I would go out to distribute the Nine Commentaries.

When relatives and friends came to visit, I, of course, tried to persuade them to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations. My father knew it was improper to lose his temper in front of others, but once our guests left, he would immediately yell at me.

In the summer of 2005, my uncle paid us a visit. I tried hard to talk him into withdrawing from the CCP. Just as he was loosening up, my father said, "We will not witness the extinction of the CCP even after we die." My uncle then changed his mind and would not quit the CCP.

"Minghui Weekly" has been promoting New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) for a while. In August 2007, we finally had a chance to install a satellite dish at home. I did not watch TV much in the past. In the beginning, my father did not want to watch the NTDTV programs, so I would turn on the TV as soon as I got home, switch it to the NTDTV channel, and watch with him. When he saw the ads about quitting the CCP or the scenes of parades in other countries to support the millions of people quitting the CCP, he would immediately shut the windows and doors, stare at me, and shout, "Keep it down! Keep it down! They will hear us outside!" As soon as I stepped away, he would change the channel. Sometimes when I got back from work, I would catch him watching CCTV (the mouthpiece of the CCP), so I would switch it back to NTDTV and watch with him.

Bit by bit, my father gradually changed. Sometimes when I came home from work, I found him watching NTDTV. I would then tentatively disclose some of the CCP's evil deeds. He remained quiet and calm and kept on listening. Now, even if I talk about quitting the CCP and its affiliated organizations in front of him, he is no longer angry. He does not yell bad words in the courtyard any more when my mother turns up the volume of the music while doing the Dafa exercises.

One day he said to me, "This TV station is really good. I watched it until 10 o'clock last night." (He usually goes to bed at 8:30.) "The narrator who read the Nine Commentaries did a wonderful job. His voice was calm and peaceful, very good." He does not watch CCTV much now.

After we moved this year, the TV set was left behind. I said to my father, "Dad, let's go get a TV so you will not feel bored in your free time." He replied, "It is no good without that channel. I don't like any other programs. If I'm going to watch TV at all, I will only watch that channel." I asked him, "Do you think you will see the CCP fall apart?" "Of course," he answered firmly, "I will see CCP go to its grave." I installed another satellite dish for him as soon as I could.

The effect of the media is extremely broad and powerful. Why does the CCP maintain such a tight grip on the media? Why do they fear the truth getting out? Isn't this the very reason? To play NTDTV programs is to spread positive energy. The field in my house has changed. It is bright and noble and makes us feel joyful. Before we noticed it, the bad notions in our family were transformed.
