Xiulian's Story

Jan. 26, 2008

(Clearwisdom.net) A few years ago I heard that officials from the Chinese Communist regime had sentenced practitioner Ms. Xiulian to prison, and that she was confined in a mixed-gender cell. My thoughts were with her. Whenever I talked to other practitioners, I tried every way possible to find how she was coping.

I finally met a practitioner who was close to Xiulian. She told me, "The police listened to her in prison and did what she asked!" Another woman told me everything that was going on inside the prison.

When Xiulian arrived, the prison guards attempted to make her wear an inmate's uniform but she refused. "I cultivate 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance'. There is nothing wrong with being a good person. You have no right to detain me! I'm not wearing these clothes." The guards used all types of methods to get her to listen to them, but they did not succeed. They finally gave up and locked her up in a small cell (1). She was allowed only to wear undergarments for more than 20 days and still refused to follow the guards' orders after that.

Fellow practitioners said that she sang "Falun Dafa Is Good" every day, non-stop. Her singing voice scared the evildoers and left the guards without a clue about what to do. Even the prisoners enjoyed her singing. Her voice deeply inspired the other incarcerated practitioners, and they sang along with her while others shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!"

All the prisoners were forced to do hard labor, but Xiulian just wouldn't go. The guards couldn't do anything about it and just left her alone. She voluntarily maintained hygienic conditions for fellow practitioners and cleaned their cells. All the officials were astonished by her righteousness. Officials from different prisons heard her story and came from different districts to see her.

Even during the most atrocious time of the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong, every time I met Xiulian she was always very righteous, confident, unafraid, and easygoing--almost as if the persecution did not exist.

One time, right after she left a brainwashing session, she told me of her unimaginable inhumane treatment there. For long periods of time she was made to bake under the merciless heat of the sun while the guards made her eat rotten vegetables containing sand and dry mud. The guards used a water-cannon on the practitioners who were practicing the Falun Gong exercises. Nevertheless, she and the practitioners could still do sitting meditation despite the high-pressure water and they still peacefully clarified the truth to the guards. Even after weeks of appalling torture, Xiulian seemed energetic and full of life. Seeing how radiant and youthful she appeared deeply surprised me. She didn't look the least bit as if she had just survived a hellish experience. In fact, she looked like she had just had a facial and spa treatment.

After a while, she was again detained and taken to a brainwashing center. She was handcuffed, her cell was locked, and numerous guards were outside the door, ready to catch her if she tried to escape. She thought to herself that this wasn't a place where she could clarify the truth, and she needed to go to validate the Fa. At once her hands were free of the cuffs. She took out her house key and unlocked the cell door with a turn of the key. She understood that Master was helping her. Then she walked straight out of the brainwashing center and went to Tiananmen Square with a fellow practitioner. Together they yelled, "Falun Dafa is good" without any trouble. Once they reached the Tiananmen tower, however, police illegally arrested them. And once again they safely escaped and returned home several days later.

This wonderful practitioner was a target for the local evildoing Chinese Communist regime's agents and was constantly watched. The police harassed her and made her life extremely hard. After finding truth clarifying material in her house, she was sentenced to a lengthy prison term.

Note:

(1) Small cell - The detainee is confined alone in a very small cell. The guards handcuff the practitioner's hands behind their back in a fixed position, so that they can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. A bucket in the cell serves as the toilet. Only half of a regular meal is served each day. During the night rats run around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.
