Local Las Vegas Residents Delighted to See the Unique Beauty of the Chinese New Year Spectacular

Jan. 29, 2008 |   By a Clearwisdom reporter

(Clearwisdom.net) Las Vegas resident Sydney loved the Chinese New Year Spectacular that was presented recently in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"I loved it. I think it's one of the best I've seen." Sydney and her husband have their own business in Las Vegas, so they have seen many of the shows in Las Vegas. When asked if she had ever seen this kind of show in Las Vegas and how the Spectacular compares with other shows here, Sydney replied, "No, I haven't. I saw a show that was similar to this when I lived in Denver, Colorado... I don't see how you can compare it... I've been to all of the Cirque du Soleil shows. I've been to several of the comedy shows. I've been to most of the magic shows and that sort of thing. The level of polish and beauty is just incredible [in this show].

The programs she liked most in the Spectacular were "Water Sleeves" and "Drummers of the Tang Court."She told the reporter, "I didn't know it was here until five days ago. I happened to catch it on the news. It was advertised on one of the commercials during the news, and I usually fast-forward during the commercials. I just happened to catch it."

A Las Vegas Show Promoter and Friend Praise the Show

Another resident, Gina Wilkins, works as a show promoter in Las Vegas. She and a friend detailed their favorite programs in the Chinese New Year Spectacular. Gina said, "I like the chopsticks scene the best. That was probably my favorite. I mean all the costumes were really beautiful, but I liked the chopsticks. I liked the sounds and probably liked the unison of the boys dancing. That was probably my favorite one."

Gina's friend commented, "I really liked the Mongolian tea ceremony, the dance. I loved the costumes, and it was just very elegant and beautiful."

Gina told the reporter that she didn't even hear about it until a couple of weeks before the show and she learned of it through her work.

From her experience, she said, "It's the first cultural-based show that we have. As far as others, they are themed on the Beatles, the circus, or show girls. It's the first authentic cultural show, I think it's unique. The costumes are really great. And I think that a show like that could possibly have good future here because we have so many, not only Chinese tourists that come, but we have a lot of Asian tourists in general, they would probably really like to see something like this."

Gina's friend was asked if she had any difficulty understanding the stories and cultural aspects of the show. She said, "No, I think that was expressed really well. For us it's different. My mom is from Korea, and being in Asia numerous times, I kind of had a little insight into what was going on. I knew some of the stories."

She went on to say, "I've heard about the moon - the lady from the moon - and the different dynasties. So I don't think that, even people who don't have any insight into Chinese culture or tradition, [will] have any trouble understanding..."
