Tainan, Taiwan: Premiere of Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular Played to a Full House (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) The US-based Divine Performing Arts New York Company will travel to five cities in Taiwan and present 22 shows. The first stop is Tainan--the ancient cultural capital of Taiwan. The premiere of the Chinese Spectacular in Tainan on February 29, 2008 played to a full house, attracting many local dignitaries, including people from political and commercial circles. In the audience were also people from Taipei and Taichung, as well as visitors from Germany and Japan. They did not want to miss such a rare and precious feast of art.

Tainan County Council Speaker Wu Chien-bao enjoyed the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular. He thought the show was different from many performances he had seen before. He felt that the unique characteristic of the entire performance lies in its presentation of "being kind" in human nature. He said that the show introduced the audience to traditional Chinese culture and dances, and felt that the entire show was flawless and quite successful.

Mu Lien-rui, Tainan City Hospital President and former Tainan Physicians Association President, attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular with several dozen physicians and nurses.

Dr. Mu said the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular presents Chinese culture and dance, and stresses traditional virtues such as helping the weak and young, and those in distress. He found that the songs conveyed profound meaning and the vocalists have masterly ability. The performance that left a special impression on him was the flags and drums performance. He felt that the resounding drumming was especially inspiring.

Dr. Mu said that one must see it first-hand to appreciate the Chinese Spectacular and to get its inner meaning. He believed that everyone who has seen it will like it, and he said that he would invite his friends and relatives to come to see the show next year.

Commissioner of the Bureau of Education, Tainan City Government, Wang Hsui-wen said, "After seeing the show today, I was very much impressed. Within two hours, the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular presented the essence of Chinese culture through the medium of art. I thought that all of the performances were even more exciting than last year. The dance, 'The Power of Awareness' is especially good."

Mr. Wang continued, "The audience members who saw the show last year should come see the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular this year, because I think everything, including the overall backdrops, lighting, and the acoustic system are better than last year - in particular the backdrops. It is state-of-the-art, high-tech; it's extraordinary. It is so real and lifelike that it makes you feel you are out in nature. It is very good. I hope everybody will try to come to see it if at all possible."

Mr. Wang added, "I know that many schoolteachers attended the show, and I hope they can take in some of the essence from the performance and then put them into their classroom curriculum. I believe [the concepts presented in the Spectacular] will be very inspirational to students."

Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau Commissioner Hsu Keng-hsiu told the reporter, "The entire show had a good presentation, in terms of the arrangement of storyline, coupled with the realm that people hope to see and yearn for in their hearts. The scenes and backdrops were incorporated with the performances, which was well done. The choreography of the dances and the dance teachers are super."

Speaking from the perspective of culture and art, Mr. Hsu said that the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular thoroughly and perfectly presented the most wonderful part of Eastern dance. The costumes and choreography of the dances were exquisite. The Chinese Spectacular portrayed many historical stories in China and presented their essence through storytelling, which was very well arranged. He said it was a very successful performance.

Qianguanmiao National Elementary School Principal Su Pao-chu praised the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular for presenting the ancient Chinese dances so gently and beautifully, yet there was also an element of manliness. He thought that the show presents very good teaching material, and also provides very good role models. He said that many people were moved by the performances.

Ms. Su said it would be of great significance if the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular could be made into a VCD, and shown in schools. He feels strongly that the cultural essence contained in the traditional Chinese dances, particularly the classical stories, is very meaningful. The teaching of traditional culture should be deepened and expanded so that every pupil can understand the essence of ancient culture through stories and artistic performances. Ms. Su feels that art, particularly the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular, can provide guidance for pupils on the moral and spiritual level.

Mr. Liu said, "This is a good performance! We did not know what the Divine Performing Arts was when the DPA staff came to our district to promote it. Tonight, after seeing the show, I know that it really can carry forward the essence of Chinese culture. Every performer performed in such a lively fashion, and the hosts were engaging! Even the mayor watched the show intently - it's really rare for the mayor to stay so long for a show! Next time, when Divine Performing Arts comes, we will help promote it and encourage more people come see it. I will also come again! It's remarkable for a group to perform on Broadway in New York. We welcome them to come every year!"

Civil Servant Mr. Liu: Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular presents wide and profound meaning

Mr. Liu, a civil servant, attended the Chinese Spectacular and enjoyed it very much. He said, "The show was very good. What impressed me deeply were the traditional Chinese myths, for example, the performance 'Lady of the Moon,' in which Hou Yi shot down the suns. The performances that portrayed Chinese tradition and history were also quite good. Everything was good. There was much inner meaning. I thought it was all-inclusive."

Mr. Liu continued, saying that he saw the news about the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular from posters on the street. He had heard people's rave reviews about Divine Performing Arts, but he was not fortunate enough to see until today.

Nurse Ms. Tsai: Divine Performing Arts Company must have put much effort into the production

Ms. Tsai, a nurse, told the reporter that she learned about the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular from a flyer, which said the company is on its world tour. She thought it was a rare opportunity so she called the ticket hotline and booked a ticket. Ms. Tsai said, "In the performance, there were many continuous swirling movements, the performers kept turning. It cannot be done all of a sudden. They must have put a great deal of effort into their performance. Also, the drumming in the act 'Drummers of the Tang Court' was soul-stirring. Their performance was perfect!

Biochemistry Science and Technology company staff Ms. Wang: The show is terrific!

Ms. Wang highly praised the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular. She said, "Very good! Very moving! The scenes were very beautiful and amazing! The fairy maidens were so beautiful. Particularly, I was deeply impressed by the scene in 'The Power of Awareness,' when the little girl held the banner reading 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.' Seeing many people come to rescue them when they were persecuted, I felt very moved."

Student: It's worth seeing a hundred times

A twelve-year-old 6th grade student surnamed Chang said she liked the historical performances, "The Loyalty of Yue Fei" and "Drummers of the Tang Court." She thought that the most inspirational part of the show was the message that one must be honest and upright.

Ms. Chang was amazed by the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular and hopes to become an excellent dancer one day and also perform on the international stage to promote Chinese culture.

German visitors: A very beautiful performance

In the audience were two young German young, who also enjoyed the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular very much.

Joachim Schoun said, "We're from Germany, and have never seen such a performance. It was very original and special. I really enjoyed it. It is really a very good performance."

David Kinsky said, "I thought the performance was stunning. I liked very much seeing these dance performances. The dances represent a cultural characteristic. Chinese traditional dance is really very special. The dances, the beautiful costumes, and also the fans and long sleeves, are quite different from dances in Europe. "
