Along with her child, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Xia from Zhengzhou City, Henan Province has been arrested five times by members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999. The first four times, she was illegally imprisoned and had to leave her son to her parents. However, due to the immense psychological pressure, both grandparents passed away. Now, Ms. Ma has been subjected to prolonged persecution by the CCP together with her only son.

Ms. Ma Xia is fifty years old, and is an employee of the Baige Corporation in Zhengzhou City. Before she began cultivation, she suffered from cirrhosis and was emaciated. Her husband passed away early, and she had to take care of both her son and her parents. Life was very tough for her. In 1997, Ms. Ma was fortunate enough to learn Falun Dafa. Through cultivation, her cirrhosis was cured miraculously, and she was able to take care of her family very well.

However, since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, she has been illegally arrested and imprisoned on several occasions because she clarified the facts and distributed truth-clarifying materials. In 2004, she was illegally sentenced to a year and a half in prison by the Zhongyuan District Court in Zhengzhou City. Police officers who participated in persecuting her include Ma Weili, Guo Xiaobin, Zhai Hongbin, Liu Huarui, and Chang Weidong. The people who reported her to the authorities include Yuan Yang, Yin Wei and Liu Dongshan, among others.

In 2005, the Middle Court of Zhengzhou City sentenced Ms. Ma to four years of imprisonment, and she was sent to the Xinxiang Prison. However, the Xinxiang Prison detected medical issues with Ms. Ma and refused to accept her. People who participated in the persecution include Chief Judge Wang Xiyu, Judge Yang Zhonglin, Judge Yang Shenggong and clerk Cheng Cunqi.

On August 18, 2007, Ms. Ma was arrested and imprisoned at the Second Detention Center of Zhengzhou for distributing truth-clarifying materials. Her house was broken into and ransacked. Later, she was released after her health deteriorated to a critical condition. In October, during the Seventeenth National Congress of the CCP, she was harassed by the authorities. She was sent to the Zhongyuan District Procuratorate three times by the Ludong Village Police Station and Guangdian Police Station for illegal interrogation and persecution. People who participated in her persecution include Wang Guoqing (station chief), Guo Baowei, Huang Puwei, Li Kai and someone surnamed Wei.

The Baige Corporation stopped paying salary to Ms. Ma in November 2007 and unilaterally broke her employment contract. When Ma went to the company to ask for her withheld salary, she was told that she would be prohibited from entering the company premises in the future. Her employment contract was terminated by Wang Kang (head of the human resources department) and signed by the corporation general manager Liu Xiaoming. Huang Puwei said to her, "Not only will we stop paying you, we're going to take back your house."
