(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 27 cities or counties in 16 provinces. In this report, 20 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 34 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Foshan City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Deng Fengzhen Taken to Shiwan Detention Center and Subjected to Mistreatment

On the morning of March 17, Ms. Xie Yonglan, 61, from Changshan Town, Donggang City, persuaded Wang Jinbo, a peddler, to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations at the fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Donggang City. She was reported to police and "illegally arrested" by officers of the Dadong Police Department. Currently, she is detained at the Donggang Detention Center and has been subjected to mistreatment.

5. [Yingshan City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Li Guoshu and Ms. Li Haoqiong Arrested
On April 8, 2008, officers of the Yingshan City Police Department and 610 Office, along with the Nanchong City Police Department, arrested Ms. Li Guoshu and Ms. Li Haoqiong and confiscated their computer. They were taken to Nanchong City Detention Center.
6. [Yibin City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Yuan Guangli Arrested
On the morning of March 12, 2008, 70-year-old Mr. Yuan Guangli and his wife, Ms. Peng Zezhen, were arrested and taken to Nancheng Police Station by agents who were monitoring them while they were distributing truth-clarification materials on Dongtian Street, Cuiping District, Yibin City. Their home was searched and the following items were confiscated: three copies of "Zhuan Falun," two photos of the founder of Falun Dafa, and some recent Dafa articles. That same day, the two practitioners were taken to Yibin Detention Center. Ms. Peng was released on March 27, 2008 but Mr. Yuan is still being detained.
Mr. Yuan Guangli went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on February 29, 2000. Upon arriving in Beijing, he was arrested and his home was searched. Later, he was detained in Dayi Detention Center for more than 40 days.
On March 25, 2008, Ms. Chen Yuqiong, a practitioner from Yibin City, was arrested while at home.
7. [Baiquan County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Xu Yanbo Destitute and Homeless
On the afternoon of April 8, 2008, officers of Baiquan County Police Department broke into Ms. Xu Yanbo's home and confiscated 5, 000 yuan in cash. Ms. Xu was forced to become destitute and homeless.
8. [Qingyang City, Gansu Province] Ms. Li Feng and Ms. Qi Huirong Illegally Detained
On the morning of April 3, 2008, Ms. Li Feng and Ms. Qi Huirong from Qingyang City were arrested and taken from their home by officers of the Criminal Police Team Police Department in Xifeng District. They were beaten and kicked by the officers and their Dafa books were seized.
They were detained in the Beijie Police Station. On the morning of April 4, 2008, Ms. Qi Huirong was released. Ms. Li Feng was transferred to Xifeng District Detention Center.
On April 7, 2008, Mr. Li Qin from NingNing County was arrested by officers of the local State Security Division while he was walking down the street.
9. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Tai Zhiqiang Arrested
At about 4 a.m. on April 8, 2008, Mr. Tai Zhiqiang was arrested and taken from his home by officers of the State Security Division in Zhongshan District. His home was searched and a computer was taken.
10. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zheng Fengxiang Detained in Jilin City Detention Center and Subject to Mistreatment
On July 2, 2007, officers of the Changjiang Road Police Station deceived Ms. Zheng Fengxiang into coming to their office and she then was arrested. The officers claimed they wanted to returned
5, 800 yuan that had been extorted from her in the past. She has been detained in Jilin City Detention Center for more than 10 months. During this period, she has been subject to various torture methods, such as being suspended in the air and being force-fed with hot peppers.
11. [Laixi City, Shandong Province] Ms. Liu Shuxiang Sentenced to Prison for Four Years
On July 4, 2007, Song Wenzhe (male) and Cao Jingyong (male), officers of Qingdao Road Police Station, called Ms. Liu Shuxiang, a practitioner who works at the Yuehu Elementary School in Laixi City, under the pretext of registering her permanent address. Ms. Liu gave Song Wenzhe a copy of the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party" and on July 17, 2007, she was arrested. On November 7, 2007, she was sentenced to four years in prison by the Laixi City Court.

12. [Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Liu Subjected to Mistreatment
On the morning of April 8, 2008, when Ms. Liu was posting truth-clarification stickers, she was arrested by police officers on patrol.
13. [Yushu City, Jilin Province] Supplemental Information on the Mistreatment of Ms. Zhu Wei, Ms. Zhou Xiumei and Ms. Liu Jinfeng
Ms. Zhu Wei, Ms. Zhou Xiumei and Ms. Liu Jinfeng from Yushu City held a hunger strike while in custody to protest the persecution. As a result, they became weak and were sent to the hospital for treatment. Their families were notified that they needed to pay 5, 000 yuan in cash before the practitioners would be released.
14. [Dehui City, Jilin Province] Officers of Guojia Town Police Station Harassed Falun Gong Practitioners
On April 3, 2008, Zhao Zhen (male), director of Guojiazhan Police Station, along with other officers, went to Ms. Wang Xuezhu's home to harass her. Under the pretext of safeguarding the Olympic Games, they forced Ms. Wang to be fingerprinted.
15. [Junan County, Shandong Province] Ms. Feng Jinfang Sentenced to a Labor Camp for One Year
On March 5, Chen Xin (male), police officer of the 610 Office in Junan County arrested 40-year-old Ms. Feng Jinfang from Doushan Township, Junan County. Her home was also searched. She has been sentenced to Shandong Women's Forced Labor Camp for one year.
16. [Langfang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Xia Qingqin's Home Searched
On March 31, 2008, Ms. Xia Qingqin's home was searched by police officers and two copy machines, a disc burner and some Dafa books were confiscated.
17. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Ms.Wang Sumei Arrested
Ms.Wang Sumei, a retired worker of the 3544 Plant, clarified the truth to some peddlers in front of the Jiahui Supermarket around noon on March 30, 2008. She was reported to police and arrested by officers of the Beihuan Road Police Station. She was taken to the No. 2 Detention Center, but was denied entry because of her health problem. She was released the next day.
18. [Shangqiu City, Henan Province] Mr. Liang Shuai, Mr. Zhou and Mr. Zhi Wei Arrested
At around 9:20 a.m. on April 6, 2008, Mr. Liang Shuai and Mr. Zhou from Shangqiu City and Mr. Zhi Wei from Shan County were arrested in Heze City by officers of the 610 Office, the Anti-Riot Squad and the State Security Division. They are detained in a detention center in Heze City.
19. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Yi Arrested
At around 5 p.m. on April 9, Ms. Wang Yi from Jinzhou District was reported to the police while she was posting truth-clarification stickers close to the Youyi Police Station. She was arrested by officers of the Youyi Police Station and is detained there.

20. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Wang Shixiao and Mr. Zhang Zhenxue Arrested
On March 24, 2008, Mr. Wang Shixiao, Mr. Zhang Zhenxue, Mr. Mr. Han Xinxiao, and Ms. Lin Yunying, all from Shangkou Town, Shouguang City, were arrested by police officers from Shouguang City, and are detained in the Shouguang City Detention Center.
21. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Meilian Arrested
On March 28, 2008, Ms. Wang Meilian from Dongjiayangmeng Village, Hanting District, Weifang City was arrested on her way to the market by police officers from the Economic Development Zone in Weifang City. Her home was searched. She is detained in the Weifang City Detention Center and being subjected to mistreatment.
22. [Huaihua City, Hunan Province] Ms. Yang Guizhu Arrested
Ms. Yang Guizhu clarified the truth as she was returning to her mother's home during the
Pure Brightness Festival. She was arrested on April 6, 2008 and is detained in a detention center in Yuping County, Guizhou Province.
23. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Zhu Maodi Arrested on March 27, 2008; Her Whereabouts Unknown
24. [Huangshi City, Hubei Province] Ms. Gui Lixin And Mr. Chen Jun Suffered Mistreatment in No.1 Detention Center
At about 9:50 a.m. on April 9, 2008, after having 200 yuan cash extorted from them, Ms. Gui Lixin's family and Mr. Chen Jun's family were finally allowed to see their loved ones in the No. 1 Detention Center in Huangshi City.
Mr. Chen was covered with malignant ulcers due to mistreatment. The authorities of the detention center refused to send him to hospital for treatment, and would only allowed his mother to send medicine to treat the wounds. Separated by glass, the family members were able to see Mr. Chen and Ms. Gui, and talk over the intercom. Both Mr. Chen and Ms. Gui faces were swollen.
25. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Zhang Guoyu Suffered Forcible Brainwashing and Mistreatment
26. [Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Wang Shuzhi and Ms. Xue Dahua Detained for Five Years
Ms.Wang Shuzhi, from Majiazi Village, Handian Town, Shuangcheng City, suffered abuse for five years in Harbin City Women's Prison. She was locked in a small cell, force-fed and had bamboo sticks shoved under her nails. She was released and has returned home.
Ms. Xue Dahua, from Guangning Village, Wanlong Township, Shuangcheng City, was detained in the Midanjiang City Prison for five years. She was released on March 14.
27. [Zhucheng City, Shandong Province] Police Officers Arrested and Beat a Man Who Read Truth-Clarification Materials
On around March 10, 2008, an old man picked up a truth-clarification booklet from his bicycle basket near the Electricity Bureau in Zhucheng City. While he was reading it, a patrol officer from the Criminal Police Team arrested him and he was taken to the police department. He was beaten mercilessly and had 5,000 yuan cash extorted from him before he was released.
28. [Huaian City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Dai Mingxuan's Home Searched
At 9:40 a.m. on April 8, 2008, five police officers, headed by Wang Jianhuai (male), broke into the home of Mr. Dai Mingxuan, a local Falun Gong practitioner, and took a recording machine.
29. [Suizhou City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhou Arrested
At around 11 p.m. on April 8, 2008, Li Jinbo (male), of the Criminal Police Team of the Zengdu Police Department, searched the home of Ms. Zhou, who lives inside the Health Supervision Bureau on Qingnian Road, Suizhou City, and confiscated a CD burner, more than 1,000 CDs, two paper-cutters and Dafa books.

30. [Chongqing City] Mr. Tan Xinghong Illegally Brought to Court by Authorities of Yubei District Court
On February 14, 2008, the authorities of the Yubei District Court performed an illegal trial for Mr. Tan Xinghong. Mr. Tan is still detained in the Yiwanshui Detention Center in Yubei District.
31. [Jiaohe City, Jilin Province] Mr. Qiu Baohe Arrested
On March 27, 2008, 53-year-old Mr. Qiu Baohe was arrested by the local police when he went outside to distribute truth-clarification materials. His home was searched and his wife has been forced to become destitute and homeless.
32. [Shangqiu City, Henan Province] Ms. Xiaojing Arrested
At about 5 p.m. on April 7, 2008, Ms. Xiaojing, Ms. Xiaohui (both surnames unknown), Ms. Li Yun, a driver (gender and name unknown) and a young practitioner were illegally arrested in Yucheng County by the patrol police. They were taken to the office of State Security Division in Yucheng County. The young practitioner was released.
33. [Huanan City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhang Lizhen Arrested
On the afternoon of April 8, 2008, five plainclothes police officers broke into Ms. Zhang Lizhen's home. They confiscated Dafa books and truth-clarification materials, and arrested Ms. Zhang.

34. [Heilongjiang Province] Supplemental Information on Mr. Duan Tilin's Arrest
On April 1, 2008, Mr. Duan Tilin, a staff member of the Engineering Company of the Hebei Forestry Bureau, was arrested by the leaders at his workplace, together with police officers from the Hebei 610 Office and the State Security Division. His home was searched and his computer, a printer and Dafa books were seized.
35. [Guizhou Province] Authorities of Women's Forced Labor Camp Forced Falun Gong Practitioners to Do High-Intensity Labor
The authorities of the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Guizhou Province forced Falun Gong practitioners to do high-intensity labor. Practitioners who could not complete the task or did not write the so-called guarantee statement were deprived of sleep. Those who refused to write the statement were beaten so severely their arms were broken. Practitioners were being monitored and supervised by drug addict inmates and abused 24 hours a day.
36. [Yingcheng City, Hubei Province] Two Practitioners Arrested by Police Officers of Yangling Police Station
On April 5, 2008, police officers of Yangling Police Station in Yingcheng City arrested two practitioners who were clarifying the truth on the streets of Yangling Town. They are detained in the No. 2 Detention Center in Yingcheng City.
37. [Shandong Province] Ms. Fu Bin Taken to a Brainwashing Center in Weifang City after Her Term in Forced Labor Camp Ended
The forced labor term ended for Ms. Fu Bin, of Hailong Ltd. Company in Shandong Province, on March 30, 2008. She was then taken to a brainwashing center in Weifang City and subjected to further mistreatment.
38. [Hebei Province] Ms. Deng Meizhen Persecuted by Authorities of Hebei Normal University
In March 2006, Ms. Deng Meizhen, a practitioner attending Hebei Normal University, publicly declared that she quit the CCP. In April 2006, she was dismissed from the CCP and her position at work was held on probation for one year. Her home was searched and her property was confiscated, including two computers worth 20, 000 yuan. In 2007, the authorities from her place of work extended her probation period by one year since she refused to write the so-called guarantee statement.

39. [Shaanxi Province] Police of Baoji City Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners in Name of Olympic Games
At the beginning of March 2008, inside the dormitory yard of a factory, two plainclothes police officers were dispatched by the police department to monitor Falun Gong practitioners. The local police stations were assigned full responsibility for their jurisdictions in the name of the Olympic Games. If the police officers could not find the Falun Gong practitioners, they would go to their relatives' homes and workplaces to harass the people there.
