Shanghai Police Arrest Ms. Zhang Xumei and Husband Liu Peng

(Clearwisdom.net) On August 1, 2008 at 7:30 a.m., Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Xumei was arrested on her way to work by police from the Minghang District. The officers grabbed her keys and ransacked her house, confiscating her computer, monitor, printer and Dafa books, and arresting her husband Liu Peng.Ms. Zhang was then detained for one month. During that time, a confession was forced from her through three days and nights of sleep deprivation. Mr. Liu is still being detained at the Xuhui Detention Center. Their 8-year-old son Liu Heng has suffered greatly since birth, as his parents were arrested and detained many times for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Zhang retained a lawyer upon her release, to defend her and her husband. According to the information from their attorney, Mr. Liu has been on a hunger strike since April 22. CCP personnel have threatened the lawyer many times, claiming that Ms. Zhang was out on bail and police could arrest her again at any time. The couple's persecution experience has been exposed many times on the Minghui website.

Zhang Xumei and Liu Peng live at 604-66, Dongnan New Village, Minghang District, Shanghai. They have been harassed, arrested, sent to forced labor camps and subjected to brainwashing many times in the past eight years. Liu Peng was sent to a labor camp twice.
