WOIPFG Concerned about the Intensified Persecution Before the Beijing Olympics

Aug. 4, 2008

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 21, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) published an urgent notice regarding the arrests of Falun Gong practitioners before the Beijing Olympics. WOIPFG called on the international community to pay attention to the intensified persecution against Falun Gong and take action to stop it.

On March 1 and April 5, WOIPFG published two notices to expose the intensified persecution before the Olympics. In the notices, WOIPFG warned the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime that as the Olympics was approaching, the persecution was getting worse and worse.

According to a report from the Minghui website on July 27, 2008, 8037 arrests of Falun Gong practitioners occurred in China from December 2007 to June 30, 2008. Many practitioners were tortured to death or badly injured. In July 2008, the rate of arrests increased. Hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners are being held in prisons, labor camps, detention centers and mental hospitals. The persecution against Falun Gong has become a human rights disaster. To make matters worse, the Police Department and Public Security Bureau in Beijing announced on July 10, 2008, that people who report potential threats to the Beijing Olympics will be rewarded up to 500 thousand yuan--and Falun Gong is the only group named in that announcement.

The WOIPFG announcement named the major figures who are involved in the persecution against Falun Gong, including Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee, State Councilor, and the head of the Central Political and Legislative Committee; Liu Qi, member of the Politburo Committee, head of the Committee of CCP of Beijing and the chair of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee, etc.

In the notice, WOIPFG called for witnesses and evidence of persecution, including text, photos, audio and video files.

WOIPFG was set up on January 20, 2003. Its mission is to investigate the criminal conduct of all institutions, organizations, and individuals involved in the persecution of Falun Gong; to bring such investigations, no matter how long it takes, no matter how far and deep we have to search, to full closure; to exercise fundamental principles of humanity; and to restore and uphold justice in society.
