Spain: New Tang Dynasty Television Press Conference Airs Eutelsat's Breach of Contract (Photo)

Sept. 24, 2008

(Clearwisdom.net) On September 9, the New Tang Dynasty Television division in Barcelona, Spain, held a press conference. President of the Catalan Institute of Human Rights Mr. Ferrán Sales, Reporters without Borders Secretary-General Mr. Rafael Jiménez, plus Catalan Social Agencies head Mr. David Cid attended and spoke in support of New Tang Dynasty.

The organizers explained to the reporters about France's European satellite, Eutelsat, and its unilateral cessation of New Tang Dynasty TV's satellite signal and the breach of its valid contract with NTDTV to operate in the Asian region.

A spokesman for NTDTV in Spain, Mr. Alejandro Nadal, told reporters, "New Tang Dynasty TV is the only Chinese media that is not controlled by the Chinese government and the only television company that dares to report the real situation on human rights in China and to support the fight against CCP repression of democratic and human rights organizations in mainland China.

Nadal stressed that Eutelsat had succumbed to Chinese government pressure to cease broadcasting NTDTV due to economic inducements. The cancellation of these broadcasts amounts to closing the only unbiased window of information for 1.3 billion Chinese.

Reporters without Borders Secretary-General Mr. Rafael Jiménez said in his speech, "From the records of telephone conversation between Reporters without Borders in Europe and the in-house staff of Eutelsat, Eutelsat admitted that the interruption of New Tang Dynasty TV's satellite signal was not a 'technical fault' but a political and economic exchange engineered jointly by Eutelsat and the CCP."

According to the head of Catalans Social Activities Agencies, Mr. David Cid, it shows that, in the face of huge economic interests, basic human rights relating to freedom of information, which are carefully protected in Europe, are very vulnerable. He was terribly sad about the scandal, for which the dictatorial CCP and Eutelsat are jointly responsible. At the same time, he gave assurances that the government's two Houses of Representatives are ready to submit a relevant motion to Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos and the European Union.

At the end of the press conference, the organizers issued a joint statement: "It is necessary to safeguard human rights in China and make joint efforts to ensure that Eutelsat resumes New Tang Dynasty TV's Asian signals as soon as possible so that 1.3 billion Chinese viewers can see NTDTV programs as soon as possible."
