The Epoch Times: Toronto Wowed by Spectacular

Sept. 28, 2008

TORONTO--Literal Magazine's associate editor, Wendolyn Lozano, was taken by the Divine Performing Arts Mid-Autumn Spectacular held at the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto's downtown Sept. 26.

Ms. Lozano owns her own magazine, is also a writer, and covers everything related to art and poetry.

"We are enjoying it big time," she said. "We were just talking about [how] they really convey not only the dance, but their spirituality. It's amazing and we are very surprised."

Ms, Lozano visited the show with a lady friend and said the Spectacular, which is based on ancient Chinese traditions, was the very first of its kind she had seen.

"I would like to learn more about the Chinese culture. I liked the drummers a lot, thought they were simply amazing and very professional."

Entire Package Well Done

Ministry of Government Services project manager, John Duve, visited the show with his wife.

The couple had seen another local performing arts group and a Chinese opera and noticed a significant difference.

"This [Divine Performing Arts] is significantly different, more polished. The costumes and backdrops..."

"The opera was very different. This is more light hearted, the music very soothing and the show itself very enjoyable."

In reference to the combination of Eastern and Western instrumentals, Mr. Duve thought the mixture was good.

"The entire package with the singing, dances and types of dances was well done, it was a very well-mixed presentation. "

'So upbeat. Way to go'

Frank Martino, a Toronto banker who said he had seen all kinds of Chinese events, gave the Mid-Autumn Spectacular a perfect score.

"It was fantastic - the colors, the dancing. The costumes were unique. It was great. So upbeat. Way to go."

When asked what he liked most he replied, "Everything. It was absolutely fantastic. It was perfect, just perfect."
