January 19 was a sunny day. The parade started at Minute Maid Park at the center of the city and wound around the downtown twice for a total of 1.5 miles. More than 100 groups participated in the parade. Thousands of spectators packed the streets.

This was the first time for the Divine Land Marching Band to perform in Houston's Martin Luther King parade. The band members were highly energetic and their music unique. Following the band came the Falun Gong float. The practitioners in yellow exercise uniforms demonstrated five sets of exercises to peaceful and relaxing music. Many spectators called out to them, "Wonderful" and "Beautiful." Some spectators followed along with the demonstration while others took out cameras and camcorders to save images of the beautiful scene.
