Deputy Mayor of Beijing Receives Investigation Notice in Taipei

Nov. 6, 2009 |   By Li Hui-rong

(Clearwisdom.net) News from the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) reported that Ji Lin, deputy mayor of Beijing, received notification of an investigation when he attended the Taipei-Beijing Scientific Forum in Taipei on November 3, 2009. Falun Gong practitioners delivered the announcement and advised him to no longer participate in the persecution of Falun Gong.

The investigation report by the WOIPFG pointed out that since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, Jia Qinglin (former mayor of Beijing), Liu Qi (secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Committee in Beijing, former mayor), Qiang Wei (deputy secretary of the CCP Committee in Beijing, and director of a group handling Falun Gong issues in the Beijing CCP Committee), Ji Lin (member of the Beijing CCP Standing Committee and secretary of the Beijing Political and Judicial Committee) and others are directly ordering the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Beijing. As verified by international human rights organizations, at least 97 practitioners were persecuted to death in Beijing as of October 2009.

Since 1998, when Ji Lin was secretary of the Miyun County CCP Committee, he has actively ordered persecution of Falun Gong for his personal gain. Under his direction, many practitioners were sent to forced labor camps and prisons. In Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp, the number of practitioners from Miyun County numbers the highest. Those who were sent to prison were serving long terms.

In 2002, Ji Lin was transferred as secretary of the Beijing CCP Political and Judicial Committee. In April 2004, he was promoted to deputy mayor of Beijing, where he continued persecuting Falun Gong. Early this year he directed the large-scale arrest of Falun Gong practitioners in Beijing.

Ms. Yang Xiaojing, a Beijing practitioner, died from persecution on October 1, 2009. She was subjected to long-term harassment, intimidation and brutal persecution. Her husband, Cao Dong, is still imprisoned in Tianshui, Gansu Province.

Since July 20, 1999, 3326 Falun Gong practitioners have been verified as tortured to death in China. The death cases occurred throughout China, with the most frequent-occurring locations (from high to low) being Heilongjiang, Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong, Sichuan, and Hubei provinces. Among the death cases, 53.7% were women and 56.86% were over 50 years old.
