(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Xu Hui and her son went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in July 2007. Police officers stationed there arrested them and took them to the Dongcheng District Detention Center in Beijing. Then, they transferred them to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.
In order to protest the illegal imprisonment, Ms. Xu went on a hunger strike and refused to obey camp rules, including greeting the guards, memorizing songs and rules, signing documents, and performing forced labor. The guards tied Ms. Xu tightly with a rope and hung her up by the handcuffs, which caused extreme pain in her wrists and shoulders. They used a sharp metal tool to open her mouth and she lost several teeth. Ms. Xu was also injected with unknown drugs, slapped, kicked, suffered sleep deprivation, was exposed to cold weather, force-fed, forbidden to use the toilet, immobilized on a hard bed, forced to stand and sit on a small stool for a long time.
On September 24, 2007, Ms. Xu and Ms. Lu Lin went on a hunger strike. They were taken to a room and immobilized on the Dead Person's Bed with handcuffs. All of the windows were covered with newspaper. The guards forced open Ms. Xu's mouth with a pair of pliers and kept it open. Chen Bing from the clinic fed her watered-down gruel and a guard pinched her nose so that she would have to breathe through her mouth and swallow the food. The two women were not allowed to use the toilet or wear warm clothes.
In the afternoon that same day, guards took Ms. Lu somewhere and brought her back at midnight. Ms. Lu could barely walk and was exhausted. She was hung up until 11 p.m.
The next morning, captain Wang Xiaofeng force fed Ms. Xu. The director Zhou Qin checked on Ms. Xu. Zhou and ordered Ma Jishan to be involved in the torture of Ms. Xu. Ma immediately started beating Ms. Xu. She stood up and Ma slapped her until her mouth bled. Ma walked out and demanded that Ms. Xu sign the three statements to give up Falun Gong. Wang tried to force Ms. Wang to put her fingerprints on the documents.
Guard Guo Yanjie wanted Ms. Xu to take medicine to lower her blood pressure. Ms. Xu said that she was feeling fine and did not take it. Ms. Xu said, "If you think I suffer high blood pressure, then I need to rest more. Why do you make me work 16 hours a day without rest?" Guo reported this to deputy captain Cui Hong. Cui took Ms. Xu to an office. As soon as she walked in, Cui tripped Ms. Xu and she fell. Two guards held her down, opened her mouth and pinched her nose. Cui force fed Ms. Xu with the drug and a lot of water.
The next day Cui handcuffed Ms. Xu and hung her up on a pipe by the handcuffs all day long. The day after, captain Shi Yu and Cui handcuffed one of Ms. Xu's hands to a lower pipe, with one arm up and the other down, for the entire day.
In November, guards took Ms. Xu to an on-duty room. A guard tripped her and held her down. Nurse Chen Bing from the clinic inserted a tube into Ms. Xu's stomach and took out her stomach fluid. Chen yelled, "Taste your own stomach fluid!" Zhou and Ma helped torture Ms. Xu. They put Ms. Xu on the Dead Person's Bed for many days, opened her mouth with a pair of pliers, and Ma held the plier open so that Ms. Xu's mouth would stay open. They poured unknown drugs into her mouth. This happened twice a day and each time it lasted two hours. She was in extreme pain. Ms. Xu's heart was getting weak because of the stress and pain. The guards tortured her and gave her heart medication at the same time.
One day Shi took Ms. Xu to an isolated area. Ma was there with five other female guards. The guards handcuffed Ms. Xu and hung her up by the handcuffs on the bed frame of the upper bunk. They tied up her legs so that she could not stand. Her weight fell on her wrists, and her arms lost feeling soon afterward. The guards tied a long piece of cloth on Ms. Xu's legs and swung her back and forth, putting more stress on her shoulders and wrists. This went on for a dozen hours.
At night, Shi and Zhou took turns to watch Ms. Xu, but she still refused to renounce Falun Gong. At 11 p.m., Zhou told Shi to loosen the handcuffs and left. Shi unlocked the left handcuff and Ms. Xu's body dropped while her right arm was still attached to the bed frame. Shi slapped Ms. Xu twice before loosening her right handcuff. Ms. Xu fell and her arms were numb. Shi handcuffed her arms to the lower bunk with her legs still tied up. Ms. Xu stayed in this position all night long.
The next day, Captain Zhang Jun continued the torture. The previous day's torture injured Ms. Xu's back and she couldn't stand up straight. Her hands and arms were numb, and she could not bend over. She couldn't do any daily routines such as using the toilet. After four days of torture, the handcuffs cut into the flesh of her wrist. The wounds did not heal for almost two months.
The guards handcuffed Ms. Xu to a bed frame for two months. Nurse Chen force-fed her every day and spilled corn paste all over Ms. Xu's neck. Ms. Xu's hands and arms were injured due to the torture. She couldn't clean herself, and the corn paste dried up. Layer after layer, the dried corn paste hardened. She needed help whenever she wanted to use the toilet. Because of the torture, Ms. Xu was disfigured. The guards called her a gorilla to add insult to injury.
One time another practitioner helped Ms. Xu to pull her pants up. Shi scolded the practitioner and handcuffed Ms. Xu to the bed frame over and over again. One time, Ms. Xu was tortured in a cold basement for three days and not allowed to sleep. Another day, she was handcuffed to a pipe for three days and not allowed to sleep. Ms. Xu became emaciated and only weighed 90 lbs. She suffered many injuries from the torture.
In June 2008, Ma came with several guards and ordered practitioners to stand up. Practitioners refused to cooperate. Ms. Wang Ling, 61 years old, from Tieling, reasoned with him. They handcuffed her and put tape on her mouth. Ma yelled at Ms. Xu and put her on a small stool. The guards tied Ms. Xu to the stool, grabbed her by the shoulders, lifted her up and put her down heavily. They did this repeatedly until the legs of the stool were broken. Other practitioners also suffered the same torture.
In June 2008, before the Olympics, the persecution of practitioners intensified. Two new guards were transferred to Masanjia, named Yang Yu and Dong Bin. Dong at once put Ms. Xu on the Dead Person's Bed. Chen opened Ms. Xu's mouth with a tool, stretched it as far as possible, and fixed it in that position. At the same time, they played a tape attacking Falun Gong. An ambulance was waiting outside for Ms. Xu because the camp needed to get Ms. Xu out before she died to avoid responsibility. This torture took place six hours a day everyday. Ms. Xu's lips were cut and swollen, and her teeth and gums were injured as well. In order not to have Ms. Xu die in the camp, they fed her medication for her heart and blood pressure. This torture went on for nine days. One of Ms. Xu's teeth was broken, and she couldn't close her mouth after the tool was removed.
They switched force-feeding methods. Ms. Xu was force-fed four times a day and each time with two jars of corn paste and two spoonfuls of animal fat. Ms. Xu vomited frequently, and the force feeding lasted for eight days.
The continuous torture greatly damaged Ms. Xu's health. Her blood pressure was 210/120mmHg, but this did not stop the camp from torturing her. At the end of August 2008, Ms. Xu was forced to stand a long time because she was still on a hunger strike. She had to stand from morning until midnight. The guards stopped giving her drugs to lower her blood pressure. Several days later, Ms. Xu's legs were very swollen and many bloody spots appeared on her legs. This torture lasted several months.
Ms. Xu refused to sign the guards' evaluation form. They forced her to put down her finger prints and many times hurt her fingers. One time Ms. Xu tried to stop captain Zhang Rongxiu from playing tapes that slandered Falun Gong, so Zhang slapped her brutally. Ms. Xu refused to wear a name tag, so the captain on duty Pan Yixi kicked her. A guard slapped her because she wanted to use a toilet. Once Ms. Xu tried to stop a guard from hurting practitioner Ms. Sun Shujie from Heilongjiang Province. Pan kicked and slapped her until she was covered with bruises.
On July 7, 2009, Ms. Xu was transferred to another ward, and she was released on August 3, 2009. By then, she could hardly walk, her arms and wrists were injured and she couldn't take care of herself. A health check in a hospital confirmed that she suffered "peripheral nerve damage in upper limbs."
Prior Persecution
Ms. Xu is 59 years old and was born in Jinzhou, Liaoning Province. She retired from Jiutai Pharmaceuticals in Jinzhou.
In July 1999, Ms. Xu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She was arrested and taken to the Xicheng Detention Center in Beijing for fifteen days. Officers from the Guta Public fBureau of Jinzhou took her back to her local area. Officers from the Beijie Police Station took her to the Jinzhou Drug Rehabilitation Center for fifteen days. She was then transferred to the Guta District Brainwash Center and tortured.
In April 2000, Ms. Xu again went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong and was arrested. She was detained in the Jinzhou Detention Center for a month and lost her job. In December 2004, Ms. Xu quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with her real name. In January 2005, officers from the Beijie Police Station in Guta, Jinzhou, broke into and ransacked her house. Ms. Xu was forced to become homeless and destitute to avoid further persecution. Her son Cai Chao tried to stop the police from ransacking the house and was detained for fifteen days. After that Cai was often followed and harassed by the police. His wife and son left him as a result.
On July 20, 2007, Ms. Xu and Cai were arrested and taken to the Dongcheng Detention Center. To protest the persecution, Ms. Xu went on a hunger strike. Guards in the center inserted a tube through her nose to her stomach to force-feed her and give her unknown drugs. Several days later, they tortured her with "electric needles." Guard Zhang Ke ordered two prisoners to hold Ms. Xu down on a bed. A prison doctor poked a needle into Ms. Xu's leg and ran a strong current through it. Ms. Xu jumped because of the excruciating pain. Several people had to hold her down. After that Ms. Xu couldn't walk anymore. They continued to force feed her. A month later Ms. Xu was transferred to another detention center. Guards ordered inmates to force feed Ms. Xu food and drugs.
On August 30, 2007, Ms. Xu was transferred to the Beijing Dispatch Center. Captain Yuan Yuan tried to force Ms. Xu to renounce Falun Gong, but Ms. Xu refused. Yuan called several people in to take turns insulting Ms. Xu verbally. They did not let Ms. Xu rest and would not let her use the toilet. This went on for hours.
Ms. Xu was taken to a strict management team. Three prisoners took turns to monitor her. Ms. Xu was forced to stand or sit on a small stool from morning to midnight. The prisoners watched her closely. She was not allowed to move. As soon as she moved, the prisoners would yell at her. Ms. Xu was not allowed to wash herself, use the toilet or sleep. Wang Yong, a prison doctor, ordered four prisoners to hold Ms. Xu down on the ground and punch her lower abdomen.
After standing for a long time, Ms. Xu's body became swollen. One day, she couldn't stand anymore and squatted down. The prisoners called for help. A guard named Yang Min came in and ordered the prisoners to bring over the comforter Ms. Xu peed on. They pushed her down on the comforter and would not let her get up.
One time the guards took Ms. Xu to the clinic and had the doctor Wang Yong force feed her. Wang said that he had never force fed before and could use some practice. He poked Ms. Xu's nose repeatedly. Ms. Xu was tied to a chair and her head was held backward. The torture lasted two hours. Wang eventually poked through Ms. Xu's nasal cavity and she bled profusely.
