CCP's Threatening Letter Exposed on the Eve of Divine Performing Arts' European Tour (Photos)

Feb. 25, 2009

(Clearwisdom.net) Divine Performing Arts has gained renown in Europe, America and Asia within just a few years, causing the CCP to become extremely frightened. The Chinese Consulate in Frankfurt sent letters on the January 6, 2009 to local government leaders and foreign Consulates, denigrating DPA in the form of a state diplomatic letter. The letter has been made public by some of the German media.

In the letter, the CCP "reminded" the prime minister and other politicians of the government, the foreign diplomats of other countries in Frankfurt not to go see the DPA's performance. An international human rights organization, whose headquarters are based in Frankfurt, yesterday exposed this letter on its website, condemning the Chinese Consulate for trying to "interfere with the cultural liberty on the soil of Germany".

Apart from sending a letter to the Prime Minister's office, the CCP also threatened the students' organizations, warning them not to go see the DPA's performance. This kind of thing also happened in some cities in North America, where the CCP circulated threats via its overseas agents among the NY and Washington DC Chinese societies, University Student Unions and other overseas Chinese associates, warning them not to watch the DPA shows.

A spokesperson for a DPA organizer said, "The CCP's consulate advertises DPA like this every year." Some local congressmen in Frankfurt phoned in their desire to watch the DPA show after learning of this. Some passersby also booked tickets immediately after seeing the flyers.

Some Germans expressed that because of the CCP's interference, they were more willing to come to the theater to support DPA. A German congressman, after getting the information, immediately decided to watch the show in person. On Feb. 10, EU Parliament Chairman Hans-Gert Poettering and vice-Chairman Edward McMillan-Scott sent congratulatory letters to the DPA show organizers, wishing DPA a successful performance.

During the last year's DPA performance on the European tour, the Chinese Consulate in Munich put pressure upon the DPA's agency in April 2008, forcing them to cancel the DPA's performance in the Munich Prinzregenten Theater. The South Germany News said in its report on March 19, 2008 that the deputy consul of the Chinese Consulate even threatened the person in charge of the theater, saying if he didn't cancel the performance he would never get a Chinese visa and would be forbidden to trade with Chinese merchants forever.

One of the three DPA groups, DPA International, departed North America for Asia on Jan. 31 and performed five shows in four days in the Artpia Theater in Shoucheng, Daqiu, Korea. The performances to over 5,000 people caused an upsurge of interest in DPA. Just as last year, the CCP attempted to obstruct the renting of a theater in Seoul. The organizer expressed, "The CCP Consulate pressured the Universe Art Center which had an agreement with DPA, saying if it didn't rescind the agreement their Chinese visas wouldn't be issued. They also threatened that their large investments in China would be affected"

On Feb. 3, a court ruled that the organizer won the appeal. The CCP's threats had failed, and the DPA shows took the stage in Seoul for the third time, with six shows in five days. DPA again caused a huge stir in Seoul and its last show played to a full house.

DPA International Company held successful performances in Korea. The last show on Feb. 8 2009 played to a full house.

The CCP's attempts to suppress DPA always end up helping DPA's promotion and advertisement.

MEPs praise and look forward to the arrival of DPA

Feb. 9 was the Lantern Festival on the Chinese calendar. The Vice-Chairman of the EU, Mr. Edward McMillan-Scott held a welcoming party for the DPA's 2009 European Tour. Over 100 participants, including MEPs, their assistants and stewards watched the DPA's promotion film with joy.

The Vice-Chairman of the EU, Mr. Edward McMillan-Scott said that DPA presents a world-class, outstanding performance. He said, "This is a contemporary historic poem that can be enjoyed by both easterners and westerners." The EU Parliament's Chairman said in his congratulatory letter that the DPA "brought the people China's 5000 year traditional culture and made a huge contribution to the cultural interflow. It also allowed the other countries in the world to get a better understanding of the rich Chinese culture." The Chairman wished DPA's 2009 World Tour greatest success.

British MEP Mr. Barden went to see the DPA show with his wife and son last year. While recalling the last year's performance, he said with joy, "We spent a very beautiful night there. It really was a wonderful performance". Mr. Barden recommended all MEPs to watch the DPA's performance, saying, "Tell everyone, go see the show, feel it and do your best to support the meaning behind it."

The DPA New York Company will open its European Tour this year in Frankfurt on February 21.
