Eliminating the Attachment of Relying on Others

March 31, 2009

(Clearwisdom.net) Several days ago, I read an article published on the Minghui website, entitled "Don't Overlook the Attachment to Benefits." It said in the article, "If you rely on non-practitioners, the old forces may cause that person to pass away, while if you rely on fellow practitioners, it will increase their hardships."

In the article, the author listed many examples about how the attachment of relying on others caused losses. He not only pointed out the harm of relying on others, but also told us a Fa principle. Such an attachment is very hard to detect, but it might cause a fellow practitioner great harm later.

Of course, nothing is accidental, and it is always related to our cultivation. I kept on hearing and seeing different sharing about this issue, and I understood that Master wanted to tell me something. It was time for me to get rid of that attachment. Searching inside, I felt a lot of regret that I never paid attention to my attachment of relying on others, and I never thought that it was a wrong thing to do. I thought that relying on fellow practitioners was a kind of trust and help. Now, looking back and evaluating things according to the Fa, I see it differently. Relying on others actually comes from a heart of selfishness. It is the same as seeking benefits and searching outside oneself. In cultivation, it not only harms oneself, but it also harms the fellow practitioners and the whole body of practitioners.

From the point of view of cultivation, I understand that due to a lack of Fa study, I don't have a deep understanding of the Fa, so I have human notions constantly emerging, which may even control my behavior. I didn't realize it and didn't pay attention to it. So these notions always interfered with my cultivation. For instance, when the Minghui website editors reminded us to set up information materials sites, I knew about the serious risks posed to the practitioners working at the big information materials sites, so I set-up a small one. As a practitioner in cultivation for a long time, I should have taken a lead as my family conditions permitted. But I stuck to my fundamental attachment of fear, being afraid of being unsafe, being persecuted and bringing losses to family. I held onto my human notions and used my advanced age and my slow reactions as excuses. So I chose to rely on others for materials and help. Whenever I ran into any trouble, I would ask others to solve them for me. Sometimes fellow practitioners would come to my home to help me. For me, it was really convenient, but it only strengthened my attachment of wishing to be comfortable, searching outside myself, and looking up to others.

I unconsciously strengthened the old forces and allowed them to interfere. I lost a good chance to cultivate myself and didn't walk well on my cultivation path.

Besides, some practitioners, even if they didn't know how to do something, would make great efforts to learn first and then teach fellow practitioners. They would even risk their lives to buy basic materials and maintain the equipment. No matter how busy they are, they are willing to help others.

Several days ago, a practitioner told me, "Do you know Practitioner A is busy producing materials from morning to night everyday, and sometimes returns home at midnight." Another one said, "In order to edit an article, download software, or clarifying one question, I often sit in front of the computer for a whole day. I might test it many times to ensure it is safe to be operated. It might take one day or several days to do that, and then I teach fellow practitioners and let them learn it within maybe ten minutes." Of course, that is part of their cultivation, to devote time for Fa-rectification and establish their own mighty virtue during cultivation.

But some practitioners have relied on others' help for too long time, and they often praise or idolize those who know or do something in Dafa work. Think about this: those practitioners who know the techniques started from the very beginning, and cultivation is already not easy for them. The attachment created from the over-reliance on them would bring those practitioners extra bad substance and hardships they weren't supposed to endure. They are also cultivating. In this environment, it is crucial for them to control themselves and improve their xinxing. If they don't deal with these issues well and attachments come into play due to taking on others' praise or adoration, the old forces will find an excuse to take advantage of these things.

Again from the viewpoint of the Fa we know,

"In fact, let me tell everyone that matter and mind are one thing."

"All matter in the universe, including all substances that permeate the universe, are living beings with thinking minds, and all of them are forms of existence of the universe's Fa at different levels." (Zhuan Falun)

When we overly rely on other practitioners, we form a bad field, a selfish field, that is actually alive. If the field is not very strong, it might manifest to us only a few attachments and human notions, which may bring us some tribulations. Under this circumstance, we should look within, and then we are able to get rid of it. But if the field becomes very strong, and it shows us that many of us have this attachment, it could bring huge tribulations to us or even influence the whole Fa-rectification situation. There are many such examples. The big ones include the attachment to time, to the Beijing Olympic Games, or to Consummation. These are all actually black matter, rooted in selfishness, and they are the fields arranged by the old forces.

Not long ago, an incident happened in our area involving a practitioner who has cultivated for a long time. He had been to Beijing to validate the Fa and been sent to a labor camp for several years. He had never cooperated with the evil and done Fa-validation things after being released. Even though I am not acquainted with him, I do respect him. Because he knows about technology and material production, more and more fellow practitioners went to his home for consultation. Gradually, some practitioners began to rely on and idolize him. They thought that he studied the "Fa" well. Some practitioners even said, "Don't be afraid, he can afford to take on any problem because he cultivates well, and the evil will not dare to make trouble for him." Last July, he was persecuted again and detained before the Beijing Olympic Games. When I mention this, I feel very ashamed, as I have also relied on and idolized him. From these sad experiences, I am reminded of Master's Fa, "As I've said, everything that happens today in the ordinary society is the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.") Now I have a new understanding of the Fa. I write this to alert fellow practitioners. If I haven't expressed myself well, please correct me.
