Yang Ming Secretly Sentenced--Aging Mother Asks for His Release

March 6, 2009

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Yang Ming, a Falun Gong practitioner from Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, was arrested by local police on March 13, 2008, and incarcerated for nearly one year. The case went to trial several times but a verdict couldn't be reached due to an incomplete indictment. On January 8, 2009, the Jiangyang Area Procuratorate came up with additional charges and secretly tried Mr. Yang Ming without informing his family members and friends.

Afterward, Yang Ming's mother, who is in her seventies, composed a rebuttal document herself and requested that Yang Ming be set free with a verdict of not-guilty. His mother said, "My son has not committed any misdemeanor. He cultivates his mind, does good deeds, and has become a good person. My son has done nothing wrong and he is innocent!"

Mr. Yang Ming, 43, worked for a Yangtze River machine shop as a technician. After he started to practice Falun Gong, not only did his health greatly improve, from being constantly sick to having a healthy body, his mental state also improved. He came to understand the theory of how to be a good person and treat others with great compassion. At his workplace, his bosses trusted him and his co-workers respected him. His moral behavior was highly praised by everyone.

One quiet night, on March 13, 2008, Mr. Yang was arrested at his home. The police also arrested his aging mother and imprisoned her at a detention center for over a month.

After being incarcerated until January 2009, Mr. Yang's time in custody "awaiting trial" officially started. This goes far beyond the legal rule of time for remaining in custody. The court officials didn't announce a court date or inform Yang Ming's family members. The Ministry of Public Security has committed criminal acts and they should be held responsible.
