(Clearwisdom.net) I didn't know him but from the voice on the other end of the telephone, I learned that he spoke sensibly and clearly. When I first saw him, I noticed that he moved swiftly and was in good spirits. It is really hard to believe that Mr. Du Wenhai is eighty-three years old.
83 year-old Du Wenhai practicing the fifth exercise of Falun Gong
Mr. Du Wenhai went through the Second World War and had a Japanese education. He couldn't read Chinese at the time. To him, Chinese books were like heavenly books that he was not able to read. After the Japanese exited from Taiwan, he got a job at the Taiwan Railroad Bureau. He was outside all day, rain or shine, wind or cold, until he retired. However, somehow life's hardships didn't reflect on his face even though his hair was all gray. He looked very refreshed and said in high spirits, "Neighbors and relatives say that I have become healthier and happier since I started to practice Falun Gong. As a matter of fact Dafa has opened my wisdom."
About ten years ago, Du Wenhai's wife was hospitalized due to knee arthritis and was going to have an operation. Mr. Du went to see her in the Taiwan University Affiliated Hospital every day. He usually took a walk and did some exercises in the park across the road on the right side of the hospital (the park was renamed as Two Two Eight Memorial Park). One morning he heard some beautiful music coming with the breeze and he felt very comfortable. After tracing the source of the music, he found some Falun Gong practitioners practicing exercises. He was quite touched in his heart and wondered, "How come there are such soft and beautiful exercises!" Then he followed along with the practitioners' movements.
Though He Didn't Know Chinese, He Excelled Over Others in Studying the Fa and Doing the Exercises
After he finished the exercises, practitioners told him that Falun Dafa cultivates both the mind and body. Not only does one have to do the exercises, he also has to study the Fa. One of the practitioners bought the book Zhuan Falun for him and also gave him a free copy of The Great Consummation Way of Falun Dafa. During the following several days, he went to the park to learn the exercises early in the morning. One day, before his wife was discharged from the hospital, a practitioner gave him a list of practice sites near his home and also reminded him to go and watch the 9 day lectures and encouraged him to join the group Fa study.
Mr. Du said, "At the start it was quite difficult because I was illiterate in Chinese. Occasionally I would pick up a Chinese newspaper, but I would fall asleep immediately after reading only several characters." But he didn't get discouraged yet. He listened to Master Li's lectures with a Taiwanese Dialect translation over it and understood that Master had clearly explained the reason for cultivation as well as how to practice cultivation. He was very determined to break through his original shortcomings and learn to read Zhuan Falun in standard Chinese.
He also went to the group Fa study and read with other practitioners. Often times he was not able to follow along with them, but he was not bothered by it. He said, "I will read a few times more myself after I come back from the Fa study." When the book Zhuan Falun with the Pinyin version was published, he immediately bought a copy and started to learn pinyin. He wrote all the pinyin symbols on a piece of paper and put it under the cover of a desk top. He studied them over and over again whenever he had time. Now he can read all of the Dafa books, though he is not yet fluent. Mr. Du said, "Nobody dares to say that they totally understand this Great Fa. I don't know many of the characters indeed, but miraculously I understand the meaning of the whole paragraph, although I am not able to express it. With my constant studying, I'm able to understand even more when I re-read the same paragraph next time.
Learns to Use the Computer
Mr. Du studies the Fa for one hour every early morning before he goes to the park to practice the exercises. He has continued for ten years, rain or shine and wouldn't miss any opportunity for group Fa study. He also joins the activities of group practice and telling people of the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution. In 2005 he learned that practitioners were promoting the book Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and through the Internet they tell people the truth about Falun Gong and help them to withdraw from the CCP in order to help save them. Without further thinking, he decided to learn how to use a computer to tell people the truth about Falun Gong through the Internet.
Mr. Du clarifies the truth over the Internet
Mr. Du had never touched a computer before nor did he understand the alphabet on the keyboard, not to mention how to use a mouse. Ms. Liu, who taught him how to use a computer said, "At the start he had difficulties. His hand was trembling when using the mouse but he didn't have any fear of difficulties and he didn't find it hard to learn. He didn't worry about not being able to learn it well. Sometimes he didn't stop until midnight. Again and again he asked questions and time and time again he practiced. He was very determined that he would learn it. Sometimes I almost gave up but then I would be very touched by his persistence. He had few human notions and didn't think much. He wholeheartedly wanted to learn and finally he succeeded. He shared his experience with other elderly practitioners and helped them to take part in the project of clarifying the truth through the Internet."
In addition to learning from practitioners, he also found out different ways to learn the computer more quickly by himself. His methods were quite remarkable and made you laugh. Using his experience from Fa study, he drew the whole keyboard on a piece of thick paper board and made notes beside the symbols that he didn't quite understand and then put it under the transparent cover over the desk top. He learned and recited it one by one. He said, "It is easier to learn and memorize this way."
The mouse often made him sweat. His right hand often didn't listen to him and trembled when clicking the mouse to send the truth clarification materials out. He was anxious because so many people were waiting there to learn the truth about Dafa but he couldn't send it out. He had an inspiration, "Why don't I use the mouse like a bell. I'll click the mouse like I ring the bell so that I can send Chinese people the truth about Falun Gong more quickly and widely." Such a thought helped him to become stable. His hand no longer trembled and he became more mature in using computers. Between 2006 to 2008 he managed to help 3486 people to quit the CCP. Up to date he has helped nearly 4000 Internet friends quit the CCP.
Tell People the Truth From The Heart to Save Them
Mr. Du said, "Questions from the Internet users are similar. Normally I can quickly answer their questions because they are all in my files. They are often surprised by how quickly I respond to them. Many people ask me whether I am a university graduate or have a higher degree and why I know so much." When people raise questions that are not in his files, he would write them down and would think about it, then asked his grand daughter to type the answers for him. Sometimes he didn't know how to express his thoughts in Chinese and would ask his grand daughter to write in Chinese and file them. His determination broke through the language barrier.
There are all sorts of truth clarifying materials and files for helping people to quit the CCP in his computer. He knows very well where to go and what to send and can easily find the files he wants. Then he copies and pastes them. He does it all at once without any difficulty. That's what this eighty year-old normally does. Mr. Du said, "Dafa gives me such abilities. If I didn't practice Dafa, it would have been impossible for me to perform all these tasks."
Once, during an entire day, no Internet user was willing to quit the CCP. Mr. Du became a bit irritated and wanted to stop. However, after a second thought he knew that there were still so many people there who haven't learned the truth about Dafa, so he continued until 10:00pm and then wanted to log off, but with the thought of, "I must save you", he didn't give it up and stayed on-line. All of a sudden, just like Master said in Zhuan Falun, "After passing the shady willow trees, there will be bright flowers and another village ahead!" Many net users intended to withdraw from the CCP. He was glad that he didn't log off. After this experience, if similar situation appeared, his heart would not be as easily moved.
Not long ago he helped a net user to withdraw from the CCP. The person asked Mr Du, "Do you know who I am?" He was the Chief of Staff of a military unit in Guangdong Province. Mr. Du said, "I am so glad that those people in special positions in China can choose their future correctly."
