(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 26 cities or counties in 11 provinces. In this report, 38 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 27 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Anhui Province] Five Female Practitioners Remain in Custody at Fuyang City Detention Center
It has been reported that seven practitioners were held at the Fuyang City Detention Center in Anhui Province. On July 13, they were taken to the Anhui Province No. 3 Prison. Two male practitioners were admitted and five female practitioners were denied admission. These five practitioners were taken back to the detention center, where they have remained in custody.
2. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Police Extort Cash from Ms. Xu Xiumei and Her Family
At around 10:00 a.m. on July 28, 2009, Ms. Xu Qingmei was at work. An officer from the Bama Road Police Station in the Fangzi District and two Fangzi District domestic security employees from Weifang City showed up. The officers did not present any identification. They forcibly took Ms. Xu to Building No. 5 of the Domestic Security Division and held her in an office. The officers tried to extort cash from her, but she did not have any. They then located her husband and told him that if he did not bring in some money, the police would search their home and place Ms. Xu in detention. The threats did not work. The police then found Ms. Xu's elder brother's telephone number in her cell phone directory. They called him and claimed that Ms. Xu had been arrested. They ordered him to bring in 10,000 yuan in exchange for her release. In the end, the police collected 2,000 yuan from the family. Ms. Xu has been forced to stay away from her job to avoid further harassment.
3. [Yong'an City, Fujian Province] Ms. Zhou Meifang and Ms. Xu Xiuzhu Taken into Custody
On July 13, 2009, Ms. Zhou Meifang and Ms. Xu Xiuzhu were taken into custody by officers from the Yanbei Police Station while the two women were telling others about Falun Dafa in the Yong'an City Bus Terminal in Fujian Province. Hou Jianjun, chief of the Yong'an City Police Department, personally interrogated the two practitioners. Ms. Zhou has been unlawfully sentenced to 18 months of forced labor. Ms. Xu has been sentenced to one year of forced labor.

6. [Linyi City, Shandong Province] Ms. Li Xiumei Taken into Custody
Before 6:00 a.m. on August 5, 2009, Liu Weili and other officers in plainclothes from the Lanshan District Domestic Security Division in Linyi City arrived outside the Linyi Blood Center. When Ms. Li Xiumei arrived at work around 8:00 a.m., the officers took her into custody and then searched her home. The police confiscated a computer and an MP 5 player used by her child. They also confiscated a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong.
7. [Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] Ms. Sun Lingbo and Three Other Practitioners Unlawfully Sentenced to Prison
The Erqi District 610 Office in Zhengzhou City has Illegally arrested Ms. Sun Lingbo to eight years in prison. Ms. Wang Xiulan and Ms. Du Dongmei have received three-year prison terms. The three practitioners have been taken to Xinxiang Women's Prison.
Mr. Xu Xieqia has been sentenced to four years in prison. He is being held at the No. 5 Team in Xinmi Prison.
8. [Chibi City, Hubei Province] Mr. Huang Junliang and Two Other Practitioners Taken into Custody
On August 2, 2009, Mr. Huang Junliang, Mr. Chen Chaiwang, and Mr. Yang Zhenhuan went to Shayang Forced Labor Camp asking to see Mr. Zhong Shoubang, a practitioner who was unlawfully being held in custody at the labor camp. The three practitioners were instead taken to the Qilihu Police Station in Shayang County. That night, officers from the Chibi City 610 Office took the practitioners to Chibi City. Mr. Chen has been released. Mr. Huang and Mr. Yang remain in custody at the Chibi City No. 1 Detention Center.
On August 3, Mr. Yang's home was searched. The police confiscated a notebook computer, a desktop computer, a printer, and some Falun Dafa books and materials.
9. [Hefei City, Anhui Province] Mr. Bao Youhua and Mr. Xia Yuqun Taken into Custody Before July 20, 2009
10. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Gu Huaibing Held at Chengdu City Detention Center
On the evening of July 21, 2009, Mr. Gu Huabing and three colleagues were taken into police custody in a rented apartment in the family quarters of an affiliated organization of China Academy of Science by officers from the Tiaosanta Police Station. Mr. Gu was placed under detention on criminal charges the following day. The situation of the other three people is not clear.

11. [Luan County, Hebei Province] Details on Ms. Sun Yanping's Being Taken into Custody
At around 4:00 p.m. on August 3, 2009, police officers took into custody an elder practitioner with the surname Liu and searched his or her home. Some of these officers then went to Ms. Sun Yanping's home. The officers grabbed a Dafa token Ms. Sun's grandson wears around his neck. They saw her husband, Mr. Li Binghai, had one around his neck as well. Several officers rushed him and yanked the token away while another officer strangled his neck with both hands. Ms. Sun had just returned from shopping and she tried to tell the two officers the facts about the persecution. They grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into a police vehicle. The officers confiscated Falun Dafa books and materials that filled a large bag.
12. [Fusong County, Jilin Province] Several Practitioners Taken into Custody
On the evening of November 11, 2008, an elderly practitioner with the surname Song (gender unknown) was turned in to the police for distributing brochures in Houdaying Village and taken into custody that night. After managing to make an escape from the police department the following day with righteous thoughts, elderly Song stayed away from home to avoid being arrested. On the afternoon of July 25, 2009, Song was taken into police custody again after being turned in to the police.
Between July 21 and July 31, three practitioners in Fusong County were secretly taken into custody. They were Ms. Li Guimei from Beishan Village, Wanliang Town; Ms. Wang Sufang from Quanyang Town; and Ms. Xu Qingxiang from Lushuihe Town.

13. [Changsha City, Hunan Province] Ms. Han Fengjiao Held at Zuojiatang Detention Center
Ms. Han Fengjiao, in her forties, lives in Changsha City. On August 1, 2009, she was taken into police custody while distributing brochures. She has been taken to the Zuojiatang Detention Center.

15. [Tianjin] Corrected Information about Mr. Su Jianming's Family
Mr. Su Jianming lives in Chengezhuang Village in Dong'erying Township, Ji County, Tianjin. He managed to escape police custody on July 21, 2009. On July 30, he was arrested by the Ji County Police Department, which placed him in detention. His younger brother, Mr. Su Jianhua, suffers schizophrenia and is physically handicapped. Both of his legs below the knees were amputated after being run over by a train. His grandfather is 88 years old. His parents are approaching 70. He also has a 13-year-old son at home.
16. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Three Female Practitioners Taken into Custody by Police on Patrol
On the morning of August 1, 2009, Ms. Sha Jiehua, Ms. Sha Jinghua, and Ms. Li Chenhua, who live in Dalianwan Town in the Ganjingzi District, Dalian City, were turned in to the police while encouraging others to quit the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. As they were about to board a bus, patrolling police officers arrived in a 110 emergency response police vehicle. They took the three practitioners to the Bianfang Police Station in Dalianwan Town.
The officers found 300 yuan worth of paper bills in Ms. Sha Jiehua's bag. The bills had handwritten Clarifying the Truth messages on them. At around 3:00 p.m, the police searched her home without her there. The officers confiscated a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong. Ms. Li Chenhua was released at 5:00 p.m. unconditionally. Ms. Sha Jinghua and Ms. Sha Jiehua were taken to the Yaojia Detention Center. Ms. Sha Jinghua was taken home at around 10:00 p.m. after failing the physical examination. Ms. Sha Jiehua remains in custody at the detention center.

17. [Yangquan City, Shanxi Province] Mr. Zhang Guanghai Taken to a Detention Center
Mr. Zhang Guanghai lives in Beizhuang Village in Suohuang Town, Pingding County, Yangquan City. On the afternoon of July 26, 2009, he was turned in to the police while telling others about the persecution. Officers from the Suohuang Town Police Station took him into custody. They then searched his home. Mr. Zhang has been transferred to the Pingding Detention Center.

18. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Zhao Xiping Taken into Custody
Mr. Zhao Xiping, around 40 years old, lives in Benxi City. On the morning of July 29, 2009, officers from Gaoguan Township took him into custody from his home. It was reported that he was taken to a brainwashing center in Fushun City, Liaoning Province.
19. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Xie Peiyun Taken into Custody
On the evening of August 4, 2009, Ms. Xie Peiyu was turned in to the police for telling others about the persecution. Officers from the Wangjiadun Police Station took her into custody. Officers in the police station with the surname Li and Li Ming, a domestic security officer, did the the interrogation. Ms. Xie was taken to a detention center located in the Erzhigou area a few hours later.
20. [Beijing] Ms. Dong Guangwen held at Beijing Municipal Detention Center
Ms. Dong Guangwen lives in Yanqing County, Beijing. She was recently transferred to the Beijing Municipal Detention Center. Ms. Dong refused to wear an inmate uniform or recite the detention center regulations. Detention center guards tried various means of torture to make her comply. She was forced to eat her meals in a restroom. Chopsticks were not provided, forcing her to eat with her hands. The guards have also deprived her of sleep.
21. [Huazhou City, Guangdong Province] Additional Information on Ms. Li Quanzhen in Custody
Five practitioners from Huazhou City were held in a brainwashing center in Maoming City, Guangdong Province. Among them, Ms. Li Quanzhen, Ms. Li Yanqiong, Ms. Yang Yalan, and Ms. Chen Xiu have been transferred to the Huazhou City No. 2 Detention Center.
22. [Ninghua County, Fujian Province] Additional Information on the Unlawful Prison Sentencing of Mr. Qiu Baosen and Ms. Zhang Yuqing
In the early morning on November 4, 2007, Mr. Qiu Baosen was taken to the Cuijiang Police Station. The police tortured him during the interrogations. On November 5, Ms. Zhang Yuqing's home was searched.
On May 16, 2008, the Sanming Intermediate Court sentenced Mr. Qiu Baosen to four years in prison and Ms. Zhang Yuqing to three years in prison. Ms. Zhang was likely taken to the Fujian Province Women's Prison.
23. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Liu Sumei Held at No. 3 Ward of Women's Prison in the Liaoning Province Prison Complex
At around 5:00 a.m. on April 17, 2009, officers from the Jinzhou City 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division broke into Ms. Liu Sumei's home. Ms. Liu's husband was not at home. The officers confiscated Falun Dafa books, DVDs, materials, a computer, a cellular phone, an MP3 player, a printer, and other personal belongings, totaling over 10,000 yuan.
Ms. Liu was taken to the Jinzhou City No. 1 Detention Center for 87 days of continuous torture. The Taihe District in Jinzhou City then secretly sentenced her to five years in prison. She has been taken to the No. 3 Ward in the Women's Prison of the Liaoning Province Prison Complex. She has an 8 year-old daughter who is left without a mother.
24. [Huadian City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhao Haiying and Other Practitioners Will Return to Forced Labor Camp Again after Being Denied Admission
Zhou Jian, deputy Party secretary of the Huadian City Political and Judiciary Committee, and Yang Baolin, director of the 610 Office, sentenced four practitioners to forced labor. At around 10:00 a.m. on August 4, 2009, Ms. Zhao Haiying, Ms. Mao Chun, Ms. Jing Jichun, and Ms. Yuan Dan were taken to the Changchun Forced Labor Camp. The labor camp refused to admit the four practitioners. At that time they should have been released. Instead, the four practitioners were taken back to the detention center to be returned to a labor camp again.

25. [Yueyang City, Hunan Province] Ms. Zhao Qunlan Placed on Trial
On August 4, 2009, the Junshan District Court tried Ms. Zhao Qunlan. Many practitioners in Yueyang City asked to sit in the courtroom. The court did not allow any practitioners to be present. The police dragged Ms. Li Nianchun into a police vehicle and took her to a detention center. Other practitioners were pushed out the gate of the district court.
26. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Hong Brutally Beaten in Yaojia Detention Center and Severely Abused in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp
Ms. Li Hong lives in the Jinxiou Residential Community in the Shahekou District of Dalian City. She was formerly a measurement technician in the Dalian Steel Factory. She has been unlawfully expelled from the factory. On the morning of September 16, 2008, officers from the Huanghe Road Police Station in the Xigang District, Dalian City, took her into custody. She was taken to the Yaojia Detention Center. One month later, Su Yi, a division head at the Yaojia Detention Cente, and other guards stuffed her mouth with a towel, twisted her arms behind her back, and handcuffed her. The guards then kicked her in the head. Ms. Li lost consciousness right away, her entire body cramped and white foamy fluid came out of her mouth. No one took care of her, and hours later she gradually regained consciousness. On October 18, 2008, she was taken to the No. 3 Division of Masanjia Women's Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province to serve a 15-month term. Her systolic blood pressure reading was as high as 180. She has been forced to engage in hard labor. Her family has not been allowed to visit her.
27. [Yanzhou City, Shandong Province] Recent Situation of Mr. Liu Ming and His Wife, Ms. Zhang Maoyun
Mr. Liu Ming is being held at the Yanzhou City Detention Center. His case has been filed at the Yanzhou City Procuratorate. His wife, Ms. Zhang Maoyun, has returned home and lives under constant surveillance.
Mr. Liu has been unlawfully held at the detention center for 66 days. His father, Mr. Liu Zixing, is a former deputy chief of the Yanzhou Police Department. His hair and beard turned white overnight after he learned that his son and daughter-in-law were taken to the Yanzhou City Detention Center.
28. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Xiufang Taken into Police Custody for Protecting Practitioners
Ms. Zhang Xiufang, a non-practitioner who lives in the Lushun area in Dalian City, was taken into custody for protecting practitioners. Because she supported the right to believe in Falun Dafa, she was transferred from Dalian City to a brainwashing center in Fushun City.
29. [Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Lin Yongxu's Mother Receives Phone Threats after Visiting Her Son in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp
On July 17, 2009, Mr. Lin Yongxu's mother went to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to visit him. Shortly after that she received threats over the phone. She was warned not to go visit her son before the October 1 National Day.
30. [Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province] Ms. Yin Taken into Custody
Ms. Yin, in her forties, lives in Anshu Town, Dongliao County, Liaoyuan City, with her son. Her husband is no longer living. On August 1, 2009, officers from the Dongliao County Police Department took her into custody from her home. The officers confiscated a computer, a printer, a DVD burner, a television set, and other personal belongings. Ms. Yin is being held at the Liaoyuan City Detention Center.
31. [Gao'an City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Peng Meirong Taken into Police Custody
Ms. Peng Meirong, in her forties, is a businesswoman on Nan Street in Gao'an City. In July 2009, she was distributing truth clarifying materials, which filled her vehicle. The Gao'an county police took her into custody. Further details are not available.
32. [Shandong Province] Ms. Chen Shu'e Taken into Custody by Pingdu City 610 Office in Her Home in Guxian Town
On July 15, 2009, officers from the Pingdu City 610 Office and officers from the Guxian Police Station, led by Yu Xiangcai, secretary of the Penglaiqian Village Office, broke into Ms. Chen Shu'e's home. The officers confiscated Falun Dafa materials and took Ms. Chen to the Guxian Police Station. The police also extorted 12,500 yuan in cash from her family.
33. [Chongqing] Mr. Yang Jun Taken into Custody Again
Mr. Yang Jun, 17, is a student who lives in the Jingkou area in the Shapingba District, Chongqing. At around 9:00 p.m. on August 2, 2009, officers from the Jingkou Police Station took him into custody again at his home. The police confiscated Falun Dafa books, paper bills with handwritten truth clarifying statements on them, and DVDs. Mr. Yang is being held at a juvenile correction center.
34. [Langfang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Chen Guiling Taken to Brainwashing Center on July 30
35. [Anqiu City, Shandong Province] Mr. Gui Rong, Retired, Taken into Custody Again
Mr. Gui Rong, retired from the Xing'an Street Glass Factory in Anqiu City, has been taken into custody numerous times. He was released from Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in 2008. On July 25, 2009, he was again taken into custody.
36. [Yanshi City, Henan Province] Ms. Yang Xiangpei, a High School Student, Held in Brainwashing Center
At the end of May 2009, a teacher with the surname Liang, who teaches politics, defamed Falun Gong in class at the Yanshi City No. 4 High School. Ms. Yang Xiangpei, 17, a student in the first year of high school, defended Falun Gong in class. Liang turned her in to the authorities. Hang Guoqing, head of the Yanshi City 610 Office, and other officers forcibly took Ms. Yang to a brainwashing center in Huaxia Hotel.

37. [Chongqing] Mr. Lei Zhengxi, a Retired High School Teacher, Taken to Baihelin Detention Center
Mr. Lei Zhengxia, a retired teacher from the Xiaolongkan Vocational High School in the Shapingba District, Chongqing, has been taken into custody numerous times since the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999. He was so severely beaten that his entire body was covered with wounds. There was nothing that could be done for him at the hospital. After practicing Falun Dafa, Mr. Lei completely recovered. On April 2, 2009, Chen Linxiao and Shi Chuanli, from the crime investigation section of the Xinqiao Police Station took Mr. Lei into custody again. He is being held at the Baihelin Detention Center in the Shapingba District.
38. [Shishou City, Hubei Province] Two Practitioners Held at Jiangling County
Early in the evening on July 29, 2009, two practitioners from Hengshi Town in Shishou City went to the countryside in the neighboring Puji Town, Jiangling County, to try to persuade others to quit the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. They were turned in to the police. Officers from the Puji Town Police Station took them into custody. The two practitioners were taken to the Haoxue Town Detention Center in Jiangling County that night.
