WASHINGTON--Indian, Russian and Chinese cultures met in mutual harmony at the second public show of the Shun Yun Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington on Thursday evening, August 27.

Mrs. Nagarajan, a retired IT company worker, travels back and forth between India and the US. She is usually accompanied by her husband, who also took early retirement after working for the World Bank. They were together at the show Thursday night.

Mrs Nagarajan said it was a wonderful performance, "I really, really enjoyed it. It was an amazing performance."

She found the stories and settings resonated with her. "The monks, the priests, the temples, the dance movements. ... it was beautiful. Wonderful choreography, lovely orchestra, and the dancers were just amazing--and the singers."

Shen Yun has been said to bring the truly authentic traditions of Chinese culture to a wider audience. Its thorough viewing of ancient myth and history and its understanding of the origins of Chinese classical dance, have astonished and deeply moved audiences in over 100 cities over five continents.

"Very deep," says art exchange businesswoman

Mrs Nagarajan said, "I heard that [Shen Yun] would be performing in India. I travel back and forth, so I hope to be there to see the performance."

She said she would recommend the show to her Indian friends. "Absolutely I will."

The cosmopolitan appeal of Shen Yun was underlined by Mrs. Taubvurtzel, who has a non-profit organization based in DC. The focus of her business is international art exchange, while she herself has personal connections with Russia.

"I know world culture," she said, though this was the first time she had seen a Chinese show. "It's very impressive to me. It's just beautiful. Very deep.

"I've never seen anything like this. The combination of traditional and modern dance and stage design and modern music--it was absolutely amazing. So thank you so much for bringing this company to DC."
