Ms. Gao Shuzhen and Ms. Wang Haiyan Sentenced to Long Prison Terms for Practicing Falun Dafa

Jan. 21, 2010 |   By a correspondent in Hebei Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Gao Shuzhen and Ms. Wang Haiyan, from Hebei Province, were arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel in Miyun County, Beijing in August 2009. They were sentenced to nine and ten-year prison terms respectively for practicing Falun Dafa. During the sentencing, Ms. Gao told the police, state security, prosecutors, and court personnel that Falun Dafa is good and she didn't accept the illegal sentencing. Their family members have not seen the two women since their arrest and don't know where they are currently being detained. In mid-December, Ms. Wang's parents received a notice of the court's decision, but Ms. Gao's parents did not.

Ms. Gao Shuzhen's Positive Changes After Cultivation

Prior to practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Gao was always sick, and she had to take care of two daughters by herself because her husband worked out of town.

In February 1998, her family started practicing Falun Gong. Her in-laws later also became practitioners. Everyone became friendlier and conducted themselves based on Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Her eldest daughter used to suffer from anemia and was weak since birth. After she began practicing Falun Gong, her anemia disappeared and she became healthier and stronger. As for her husband, he no longer suffered from high blood pressure and dizziness. Furthermore, he didn't need to take any medication after he became a practitioner.

After practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Gao also experienced positive changes--all of her health problems disappeared, even the wounds on her eyes caused by a steel wire healed.

The Persecution Suffered by Ms. Gao

After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Ms. Gao's family members stopped cultivating because they feared being persecuted. They even tried to stop Ms. Gao from practicing. However, she persisted in her belief and did not give in to the pressure from her family and the CCP.

After Ms. Gao went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong, she was arrested by Luanping County police. She was released after the authorities extorted four thousand yuan from her husband, however a few days later the police arrested her again and took her to a brainwashing center.

There has since not been a peaceful day for Ms. Gao and her family. Sometimes the police knocked on her door at around midnight to ask if she still practiced Falun Gong. Because of the constant harassment, Ms. Gao didn't go to work for several years. In addition, her husband always tried to stop her from studying the Fa and doing the Falun Gong exercises.

In 2006, Ms. Gao's family expenses increased dramatically because they had to pay for her daughter's college tuition. Furthermore, since her husband stopped practicing Falun Gong in 1999, his illnesses recurred and he had to take medicine again, thus increasing the family expenses. Ms. Gao had no alternative but to go to work out of town.

During the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the village and county police and the county women's association persuaded her family members to ask Ms. Gao to return home or they would send the police to arrest her. Ms. Gao's family went unwillingly and brought her home, which caused her to lose her job.

In August 2009, while staying at someone's home in Miyun County in Beijing, Ms. Gao was arrested by CCP personnel. She was first detained at Lige Zhuang Police Station before being transferred to Douge Zhuang Police Station. In October, she was again sent back and detained in Miyun County. Since her arrest, her family has not been allowed to see her.

Ms. Wang Haiyan was arrested at the same as Ms. Gao. Ms. Wang is from Weichang County, Hebei Province. In mid-December, Ms. Wang's older brother said that their family had received a notice of the court's judgment.
