Lanzhou City Chengguan District Court Upholds Verdict against Four Practitioners

Jan. 24, 2010

(Clearwisdom.net) (By a correspondent from Gansu Province) The Chengguan District Court in Lanzhou City upheld its verdict against four Falun Dafa practitioners, and handed down the verdict only after the appeal deadline had passed.

Mr. Fang Shuguang, Ms. Cui Guilian, Ms. Zhao Yuhua, and Ms. Xue Qicui were arrested in August 2008.

The Chengguan District Court began trial on December 29, 2008. On May 6, 2009, the court sentenced Mr. Fang to nine years of imprisonment, Ms. Cui and Ms. Zhao to eight years, and Ms. Xue to three years with an additional parole term of five years.

The practitioners appealed to the Lanzhou City Middle Court. The middle court reversed the sentence and granted a new trial, citing "verdict based on unclear facts and insufficient evidence."

The Chengguan District Court began the new trial on August 3, 2009. In mid-October, after the appeal deadline had passed, the court upheld its original verdict, and handed down the verdict to the practitioners and their families.

The practitioners were detained at the Lanzhou City No. 1 Detention Center. Now, Mr. Fang is imprisoned at the Lanzhou Prison. Ms. Cui and Ms. Zhou are imprisoned at the Gansu Province Women's Prison.
