Being Attached to Time and Misunderstanding Dafa Practitioners' Form of Cultivation

Feb. 18, 2010 |   By a practitioner in Heilongjiang Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Many practitioners separate cultivation from daily life and pay little attention to their duties at home, life, work, and study. Some even go to the extreme, thinking that the period when the Fa rectifies the human world is arriving, so they don't need to pay attention to family affairs, being diligent at work, or with their studies.

On the surface, this is an attachment to time. Digging deeper, though, it is also because they have a misunderstanding about the cultivation form that Dafa practitioners take. They think that cultivation only involves studying the Fa, sending forth righteous thoughts, and clarifying the truth. Anything outside of these three things is just performing an everyday people's activity. This is their misunderstanding, since the cultivation form for practitioners is different from other cultivations in the past. Practitioners don't go to the mountains or temples to cultivate; they cultivate in everyday society and don't avoid secular issues or conflicts. Everything and everyone that practitioners encounter are all related to their cultivation. The tribulations to pass, the attachments to eliminate, and the people to be saved are all in their daily lives. The human world is the cultivation environment that Teacher provides for practitioners. One's daily life, work, and study are not cultivation, but can manifest one's cultivation status. If we don't do them well, how can we demonstrate that practitioners are good people? If we don't handle family relationships properly, our family members may have negative thoughts on our doing the three things. If we don't pay attention to and teach our children well, we are letting them down as parents and allowing them to get trapped in the big dye vat of the human world. If we are not diligent at work, our bosses and colleagues will not trust us and may look down on us, and thus we prevent them from being saved. Practitioners should be good people in every environment, be benevolent to everyone, and do their work carefully and responsibly. By the same token, it is right for us to put our whole heart into doing Dafa-related activities. Otherwise, we are not being responsible to sentient beings.

I hope practitioners who have this misunderstanding will study the Fa diligently and have the right view of cultivation.
