(Clearwisdom.net) NORFOLK, Virginia--Shen Yun Performing
Arts performed at Norfolk, Virginia's Chrysler Hall on Saturday,
February 27th. The audience visibly enjoyed Shen Yun's presentation
of classical Chinese dance, rising to their feet to applaud the
performers with a standing ovation.
Mark and Christine DeBastiani of Norfolk attended Shen Yun's
performance. Ms. DeBastiani is the senior membership director at
the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA--Virginia's largest. The pair
enjoyed the performance very much, commenting not only on the
beauty but also on the content of the performance.
"Besides it being absolutely beautiful and perfect, the performance
opens your eyes to the persecution that individuals and families
have experienced and do experience," said Ms. DeBastiani. She was
referring to Nothing Can Block the Divine Path, a dance in which a
young girl and her mother are beaten by police for practicing the
meditation discipline of Falun Gong.
"It is shocking to have such absolute beauty in the classical dance
and then on the opposite side you see the woman in the one part
being beaten and her child left behind. It was just so very
sad."
She said the juxtaposition of the two was very powerful.
She also enjoyed the performance as an enriching cultural
experience. She said the music was wonderful and it was nice to
learn about "another culture not necessarily with words but with
music and dance."

Mr. DeBastiani, who coaches at a state university, said he found the program "enlightening."
Noting the performances that presented stories from China today, he said, "It makes you feel how lucky we are. [The freedom] we take for granted."
