Dalian Practitioners Ms. Shang Xiaoli and Her Son Xie Yu Still Detained after Authorities' Failed Attempt to Convict Them

April 2, 2010 |   By our correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Dalian practitioners Ms. Shang Xiaoli and her son Xie Yu were arrested six months ago, and were brought to the Shahekou District Court two months ago. The lawyer did an excellent job in defending the two practitioners, and the judge was speechless in the court. Although not proven guilty of committing any crime, the mother and the son are still in detention.

Xie Yu had mentioned Falun Gong and the persecution when chatting with friends on the Internet. Because of this, he was abducted at his work place by four policemen from the Fuguojie Police Station on September 17, 2009. The police also went to Xie Yu's home to search for Falun Gong materials, where they asked Shang Xiaoli, Xie Yu's mother, if she was a Falun Gong practitioner. She answered yes, and therefore she was arrested as well.

The mother and the son were detained in the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City for over six months, during which time their family members tried to visit them but were not permitted. The family members were told by the police that Shang Xiaoli and Xie Yu would be sentenced to four to six years of imprisonment.

On January 18, 2010, the two practitioners were brought to the Shahekou District Court. Their lawyer made a strong defense with undeniable evidence, while the prosecutor gave a very weak argument full of unjustifiable claims and made no sense. The judge was unable to raise any questions regarding the defense. When the lawyer requested the judge to release Shang Xiaoli and Xie Yu because they had been proven innocent, the judge announced the trial was over and the court would release a judgment in ten days. However, it has been two months so far and the court has neither released the two practitioners nor issued a verdict.
