(Clearwisdom.net) The Arts Centre, Melbourne's State Theatre, which boasts one of the largest stages in the world, was again the venue for New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts. The world's premier classical Chinese dance and music company returned to Melbourne as part of its World Tour 2010.

Andrew Park, manager of international airports for Qantas subsidiary Jetstar joined the highly appreciative audience on Thursday, May 27.

"I thought it was wonderful, I thought the orchestra was magnificent. I also really liked the vibrancy of the costumes and the whole stage performance was really, really good."

Mr. Park has been based in Asia for a number of years and so is familiar with Oriental influences and performance arts but Shen Yun offered something entirely different.

"It is something I haven't seen before. I mean, I have been to China before and I've seen shows there but obviously not to this quality," he said.

"I thought it was a great depiction of Chinese culture and Chinese performing arts. Definitely very, very nice," he said.

Mr. Park said he found the orchestra "sensational."

"I thought it was really good, the mixture of Western and Eastern instruments, really very, very good."

The virtuouso performance of the erhu by Xiaochun Qi, Mr. Park found "breathtaking" and the changing backdrops were "very impressive" but "striking" was the contemporary scene of persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China.

"I think the point was put across very well and very tastefully and I think it is very disturbing that this is happening to this day," he said.

In describing his experience of Shen Yun after the performance Mr. Park said, "It is difficult to describe, it is just unique and very vibrant."

On further reflection he added, 'and, quite exciting really, so yes, very, very, good."

'Absolutely Breathtaking'

Jane O'Shea, classical music enthusiast, was in the audience and said that she really appreciates the dancers, saying: "I thought they were fabulous."

Accompanying Ms. O'Shea was Lyn Richards who expressed her appreciation of the show, "I think it is very beautiful. It is a beautiful way of making a statement."

Ms. O'Shea was very much enjoying the Shen Yun Orchestra which combines traditional Chinese and classical Western instruments, enthusing, "I just love the traditional instruments."

Shoshanna Silcove, business development manager, was also in the audience.

"I think the show is absolutely breathtaking," she exclaimed. Further explaining what made it so wonderful she said, "The music, the dancing, the colours and the spirit of the show."

"I would absolutely recommend this show," said Ms. Silcove.

"Everyone should see this show because it's not just a show, it's also an education in what's happening in China today."
