Cultivating Oneself and Doing the Three Things Well in the Workplace

June 9, 2010 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner from China

(Clearwisdom.net) I began practicing Falun Dafa in 1996. Over the next 13 years I was tempered on the path of cultivation. On May 5, 2007, after more than 3 years of illegal imprisonment, I broke out of that vicious, evil forced labor camp and brainwashing center. I re-entered the mighty current of Fa-rectification. Fellow cultivators came to visit me just after I returned home. They urged me to study the Fa more, send forth righteous thoughts, and exchange experiences based on the Fa with other practitioners. Daily Fa study, sending forth righteous thoughts, and reading experience sharing papers helped me to realize where I fell short. After lagging behind for the last three years, studying the Fa daily helped me improve the strength of my righteous thoughts, and I quickly caught up with the progress of Fa-rectification. I began to look for work after realizing that I should do the three things well in everyday life.

Without thinking about it too much, I found a job as soon as I went to the job market. I just wanted to find a job so I could do the three things well. Since I was destitute and homeless before being locked up, I had no prior work experience. Even though I was not acquainted with this new work, it went very well. At this job I immediately applied myself as Master has advised. Because I was careful about every word that I uttered and every deed that I did, I was eventually viewed with favor by my colleagues and boss. I began talking about Falun Gong and withdrawing from the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. At first I did not reveal my true identity. Because the CCP police had lost my identification card and school record, when the boss asked for those documents, I told him that I had lost them and that as soon as I could to replace them, I would give them to him.

It was not by accident that the boss kept asking me for those documents. I told him the truth about Falun Dafa since I thought that perhaps this was what he was waiting for. At that time he was extremely opposed to Falun Dafa and used work to exert extreme pressure on me. I had no choice but to go and talk with him further. I said, "I was a good student, but after the persecution began, the principal expelled me due to CCP pressure. At that time I had to let go of the things that ordinary people cherish most--reputation and material benefits. Even now, if I had to choose again, I would not give up Falun Dafa. However, I am not willing to lose my job, either." He gave me time to consider my choice and give him a reply. After searching within myself and sharing with fellow practitioners, I discovered that I was still fearful. For many days the boss did not bring up this issue with me for discussion. Eventually he said, "I don't care if you practice Falun Gong, but I don't want you to talk about Falun Gong at work and influence the workplace." I said, "I have freedom of belief, and at work I will do even better. I will be a good person according the the principles of Truth- Compassion-Forbearance. I will not waver from these principles. I cannot agree with your asking me not to talk." I spoke without the least bit of combative nature in my heart. He did not say anything further other than to tell me not to let the other workers know that I practiced Falun Gong. Actually, he was fearful, but he let me stay because I was good for the company's profits and no one else's character or work ethic was comparable. I heard my colleagues say that the department manager already knew that I practiced Falun Gong and that they should keep and eye on me. My energy field was able to immediately rectify all unrighteous things.

At work I came into contact with many people. I regarded each one as having a predestined relationship with Falun Dafa. I spoke to people from a third person point of view and explained the facts about Falun Gong and the importance of withdrawing from the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. In the beginning I was anxious that my boss would know what I was doing. I continuously let go of this fear and spoke more and more easily and with greater and greater wisdom. Whenever I ran into a problem at work, I would look within and use righteous thoughts to rectify any irregularities. My boss and I gradually came to a common understanding, and he eventually promoted me to be his assistant. He also kept raising my wages. This all came from the great power and virtue of Dafa.

Everything we do as Falun Dafa disciples will be left for the future, and future generations will refer to what we have left behind. If we do poorly, it will influence the path of future practitioners. Since Falun Dafa utilizes the form of ordinary people's work to cultivate, I was strict with myself in every word I spoke and everything I did. My words and deeds at work truly constrained others. Previously the people at my company were really lazy and negligent and would benefit themselves at the company's expense. My righteous thoughts began to rectify all abnormal things. My colleagues called me a fool. I asked them, "If this were your company, would you want your staff to benefit themselves at the company's expense?" In order to appeal to their conscience, I said that people earn wages for doing a good job at work. I said that I worked as if this were my own company. I talked with them about the principle of loss and gain and told them stories exemplifying the karmic principle that good is rewarded and evil is punished. I also spoke about how our forefathers conducted themselves according to righteous principles. Gradually, their words and deeds began to change, and all the unrighteous elements disintegrated.

Everything that we come across has a direct relationship with us. When we face an issue, if we look within, everything can be resolved. If we use ordinary principles to resolve issues, the problem will drag out for an extended period of time. If you seriously regard an issue from the perspective of the Buddha law, a problem really isn't a problem. At work, the biggest problem is being seduced by material benefits. When this occurs, it will manifest among one's colleagues as struggling to get ahead. It will also give the evil a loophole to make you very busy and not have the time to do the three things well. The hidden motive is selfishness, and it will give rise to jealousy and demon nature. Master has told us that we should first consider others when we do things, get rid of our demon nature, cultivate well, and enlighten to the truth. When we calmly search for our attachments and take material benefits lightly, it is truly as Master has said: "If something is yours, you will not lose it " (Zhuan Falun)

From my experience I have enlightened to the tiniest bit of truth above. If what I have written is incorrect, fellow practitioners, please compassionately correct my mistakes.
