1. [Yushu City, Jilin Province] Persecution that Happened to Ms. Yang Shuqin

Ms. Yang Shuqin, a retiree of the Yushu City Water Conservancy Department, was persecuted many times since July 1999. Many meetings were held within the Water Conservancy Department to attack her. She was forced to write statements giving up her practice; otherwise, she would be fired.

Agents from the Yushu City Domestic Security Division and the Zhengyang Police Station arrested Ms. Yang on her way to go shopping on October 11, 2005. Another practitioner was arrested at the same time. Both of them were taken to the Zhengyang Police Station and interrogated; their homes were ransacked. Agents confiscated many things from Ms. Yang's home including Falun Gong books, a picture Master Li Hongzhi, a decorated board with words Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, audio-tapes of Master Li's lectures in Jinan City, and other personal belongings. Agents took her to city police department, then to a detention center. Another practitioner was also sent to a detention center.

On the fourth day at the detention center, Domestic Security Division agent Chai Wenge ordered Ms. Yang to sign the forced labor paperwork, but she refused.

Police extorted 4,500 yuan from her family during those days. Ms. Yang was released after 15 days of illegal detention.

Agents from the Zhengyang Police Station and the Zhengyang Street Neighborhood Administration Office often went to harass Ms. Yang, especially when sensitive dates were approaching. Two people went to Ms. Yang's home at about 9 p.m. one day in September 2007. They claimed to be officers from the Zhengyang Police Station and knocked on the door for about 20 minutes. Since no one opened the door, they shut off the electricity to Ms. Yang's home and left.

Agents from the Zhengyang Police Station and the Zhengyang Street Neighborhood Administration Office once again went to Ms. Yang's home one day in May 2010 and knocked hard on the door for more than 10 minutes. It was so loud that her husband was terrified, broke out in a sweat and symptoms of his heart disease recurred. He had to take heart medicine to recover from the incident.
