Sept. 21, 2010 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Hebei Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Police from Quyang County, Hebei Province arrested 23 local Falun Gong practitioners and ransacked their homes on August 15-16, 2010, and more than ten of them were sentenced to forced labor. All of them male practitioners were held in the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Gaoyang County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, while the female practitioners were held in the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Hebei Province in Shijiazhuang City.

Mr. Zhao Chunpeng, a resident of the Zhaochengdong Village, Hengzhou Town, is a teacher in his fifties. Police broke into his home on August 16. They first entered his son's room despite the fact that his daughter-in-law had just delivered a baby ten days prior. They confiscated his computer and an MP4 player. Mr. Zhao was arrested and sent to the local police station. The next day he was sent to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp. As he was getting in the police car, a witness saw that his head was bound up with a bandage, indicating he might have been beaten by the police.

Ms. Zhuan Jingru, originally from the Heliu Village, Wende Town, now lives in Zhaochengdong Village. Police from Wende Town arrested her on August 16 and took away her child's computer and an MP4 player. She is now in poor health and the hepatitis and rheumatism, from which she suffered prior to practicing Falun Gong, has returned.

Mr. Zhuan Chennao and Ms. Xu Jialian live in Xiaomunanzhuang Village. On August 16, police took away the couple's computer and mobile phone, and then arrested them. Their sheep, the family's only source of income, were left without care. Their bedridden 80-year-old mother was also left alone with no one to care for her. All the fellow villagers denounced the police's brutality.

Ms. Zhuan Pengru lives in Xiaomunanzhuang Village. She was arrested by the police and her VCD player and mobile phone were taken away on August 16. Her two-year-old child was left without care.

Mr. Zhuan Chennao is now being held in the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Zhuan Jingru, Ms. Xu Jialian, and Ms. Zhuan Pengru are held in the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Hebei Province. They are siblings. More than ten members of the Zhuan's family are Falun Gong practitioners. In October 2000, the secretary of the Political and Law Committee of Quyang County detained the family in a detention center for several months on the accusation that they had appealed for Falun Gong.

Mr. Song Zhicun is an official from the Quyang County government. On August 16 police ransacked his home and took away his computer, VCD player, printer, MP4 player, and his Falun Gong books. Two days later, police broke into his home again as his daughter was opening the door to go to take her child to the doctor. Armed with electric batons they searched his home, saying that Mr. Song had escaped. Now Mr. Song's whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Ge Lianqiao, 48, lives in the Beishuiyou Village, Chande Town. The police broke into her home, arrested her and took away her DVD player and Falun Gong books at 6:00 a.m. on August 16. About ten days before the arrest, police came to her home to take photos of her. When she refused, they took her picture without her knowledge. Ms. Ge is currently being held in the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Hebei Province.

Ms. Lu Shengguo lives in the Yaoshang Village, Chande Town. At about 5:00 a.m. on August 16, five local police officers broke into her home and arrested her. The police took away her child's printer, an audio tape player, and a loudspeaker. She had previously suffered from chronic headaches and skin disease but recovered after she began practicing Falun Gong. Many of her fellow villagers became Falun Gong practitioners after they witnessed the healing effects of Falun Gong. Ms. Liu is now being held at the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Hebei Province.

Ms. Zheng Xiaojun, 57, is a resident of the Xigounan Village, Yanzhao Town. She suffers from poor eyesight, low blood pressure, constant dizziness and serious diabetes. On August 16 about 20 police in two groups broke into her home and arrested her while she was home alone. When her family learned that she had been arrested they went to the Yanzhao Town Police Station and asked the police why they would arrest her in such poor health. An officer answered cold-heartedly, "She deserves to be ill. Who cares?" She is now held in the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Hebei Province.

Ms. Liu Shunxian, 47, lives in the Wazi Village, Lingshan Town. She was arrested on August 16 by officers from the National Security Division of Quyang County and the Lingshan Town Police Station. The police took away her computer, a printer, an MP3 player, and some books. The next day she was sent to the labor camp, but she was turned away because of her poor physical condition. Instead of releasing her immediately, the police passed her case to the local Procuratorate in an attempt to escalate her persecution. Ms. Liu is now being held in the detention center of Quyang County.

Mr. Wang Luanjing and Ms. Yang Yuying, in their fifties, live in the Zhujiayu Village, Lingshan Town. On August 16 the couple was arrested by officers from Lingshan Town Police Station. No one witnessed the arrest. Several days later her family received a notice from the police station that they had been sentenced to forced labor. Police also took many private belongings but the details are not known. Mr. Wang is now being held in the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp, while Ms. Yang is held in the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Hebei Province.

Ms. Li Ronghui, 45, is a teacher from Second Middle School of Quyang County. A group of police officers headed by the local police station chief broke into her home on August 16 and took her computer, a printer, and a memory stick of her child's.
