July 8, 2011 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Jiangxi Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Xia Yuzhen from Xinjian County, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province was illegally arrested in late 2011. Xinjian Court officials sentenced her to four and a half years of imprisonment. Ms. Xia appealed, but Nanchang City Intermediate Court did not hold a second hearing, instead they covertly sent her to the Jiangxi Province Women's Prison.

Ms. Xia and her daughter Ms. Zeng Shufang were arrested on November 20, 2010, as they distributed information about Falun Gong in Shatan Temple, Liuhu township, Xinjian County. The next day, more than ten officers from the Xinjian County Police Station, the Beijiao Police Station, the Xinjian County Domestic Security Division and the Beijiao Neighborhood Committee, broke into Ms. Xia's home in her family's absence. They pried open the door, barged into her home, and turned everything upside down. They took a laser printer, two color ink printers, a CD-burner, blank CDs, cash and other personal belongings.

Mother and daughter were later held in the Xinjian County Detention Center. The daughter was so frightened that her epilepsy relapsed. Her current situation is unknown.

Xinjian County Court officials tried Ms. Xia on May 24, 2011 after she had been detained for nearly six months, and gave her a four-and-a-half year prison term. Ms. Xia and her family hired a lawyer and appealed the verdict at the Nanchang City Intermediate Court, but the court did not hold a second hearing. Instead Ms. Xia was secretly sent to the province's Women's Prison and her family and lawyer were never notified.
