The Persecution of a Former Cadre Led to His Daughter's Mental Collapse

Aug. 14, 2011 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Gansu Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Kou Chuangjin, 59, is a retired cadre from the Qingyang City Commercial Bureau. Mr. Kou and his wife, Ms. Li Ruihua, and his daughter, Ms. Kou Juanjuan, benefited physically and mentally from practicing Falun Gong. However, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) brutal persecution of Falun Gong caused the whole family great distress. After seeing her parents arrested many times, Ms. Kou now suffers from a serious depressive disorder.

Ms. Kou was born in June 1987. Since she was little, she did very well in school and at home. She was a very kind girl and often helped others.

On July 20, 1999, the CCP launched a brutal persecution of Falun Gong. Since then, Ms. Kou's family has never lived in peace. Her parents were arrested and her home was ransacked many times, just because her parents practiced Falun Gong. In September 2001, the police couldn't find her mother, so they arrested her father instead. Ms. Kou, then a young teen, was home alone. The officers stayed at her home and didn't let her step out of the house or go to school for three days. Finally she called one of her relatives and told her what had happened. The relative went to the police department and questioned them. The officers finally left Ms. Kou's home after that. However, the officers often went to Ms. Kou's school and interrogated her. Because of that, her teachers and classmates treated her with disdain. They often made oblique accusations and even bullied her to her face.

Ms. Kou couldn't withstand the mistreatment any longer. She behaved strangely in class one day, and her family was shocked when they were told. Mr. Kou Chuangjin took his daughter to see doctors and she was diagnosed with a depressive disorder. Ms. Kou's family sought medical treatment everywhere. They tried all kinds of treatments, but to no avail, and her condition only got worse. Her depression sometimes acted up several times at a day. She would lose control of herself at times, and whenever she saw a police officer. The school authorities suspended her. Ms. Kou didn't want to leave school and cried at home. The suspension was a big shock and her symptoms got worse. She would go into convulsions. She was depressed when she saw her classmates go to college or to work. She wasn't conscious when she went into convulsions, and when she would become conscious, she would often find that her head, face, arms, and legs had been injured from many falls. She cried so hard due to the severity of her depression.

At around 4:00 p.m. on June 29, 2011, Zheng Yinsheng, director of the Xifeng District Police Sub-bureau; members of the Xifeng District Political and Judiciary Committee; and more than a dozen officers from the Xifeng District Police Sub-bureau broke down Mr. Kou Chuangjin's door using a professional picklock and broke into his home. The police attempted to take away Mr. Kou's wife, Ms. Li Ruihua, but she wasn't home. They arrested Mr. Kou and ransacked his home. Mr. Kou's mother is in her 90s and cannot take care of herself. Ms. Kou Juanjuan was terribly frightened.

Ms. Kou's father is being held in custody. Her mother is being pursued and cannot go home. The shock and grief have affected the young lady terribly. She continues to be depressed and her symptoms of illness manifest more frequently than ever. Once, when she was cooking a meal for her grandma, she lost consciousness and accidentally put her hand into the boiling oil. She burned her hand and it developed several big blisters. It festered and was very painful. A relative took pity on her and took her in.
