(Clearwisdom.net) Xue Fuchun had previously suffered from serious spinal problems similar to slipped disk or spinal segments, but these problems all disappeared and never recurred after he started practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Xue and his wife Zhang Huiling were steadfast in their belief in Falun Gong, and were subsequently arrested by police from Jiguan District and the Lixin Mine on May 14, 2009. The officers ransacked their home and confiscated Falun Gong books, cell phones, DVD players, and other personal belongings. The elderly couple was interrogated and tortured at the Domestic Security Division of the Jiguan District Police Department. Officer Zhang Wei kicked Mr. Xue's legs with such force that people heard the elderly man's leg crack. Mr. Xue was in great pain and couldn't move. The couple was detained for two days and one night, during which time they were deprived of sleep. Mr. Xue was later transferred to the No. 2 Detention Center of Jixi. His leg was badly swollen, which prevented him from walking.

The two grandchildren that they were taking care of were left alone while the couple was being detained. The younger grandchild became sick from missing his grandparents.

Mr. Xue was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. He was taken to Jixi Prison, and later transferred to the Jiamusi Prison in January 2010.

The Jiamusi Prison provided no treatment for Mr. Xue's injured leg. His family was denied visitation, and the prison warden also extorted money from them. On February 24, 2011, Mr. Xue's wife came to the prison with a grandchild, but was not allowed to see him because the wardens said that she was a Falun Gong practitioner. Warden Dong Daquan agreed to pass on the clothes and 500 yuan his wife brought him, but Mr. Xue did not receive the money. The wardens also forced Mr. Xue to write a guarantee statement, renouncing his belief in Falun Gong. The mistreatment Mr. Xue experienced resulted in further problems with his leg, heart disease, dizziness, and dangerously high blood pressure. He passed out several times in the prison.

Jiamusi Prison's persecution activities have resulted in the deaths of three Falun Gong practitioners. This was exposed by international media in March 2011. Prison officials were afraid of drawing more attention by having another practitioner die there, so on March 14, they released Mr. Xue for medical reasons. After he returned home, local police harassed him frequently and threatened him by telling him not to leave home, or even meet with other people.
