Police in Huanxian, Gansu Province Arrest Ms. Miao Huixia and Threaten Her Child

Sept. 16, 2011 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Gansu

(Clearwisdom.net) On the afternoon of August 25, 2011, Ms. Miao Huixia from Huanxian in Gansu Province was illegally arrested at her workplace by the head of the County Domestic Security Division Zhang Jiannan, and other officers. They snatched away her house key and looted her home. Ms. Miao's 14-year-old son was alone at home.

Police officers confiscated a desktop computer belonging to her husband, a laptop computer, printer, Falun Dafa books, about 90 yuan in cash pocket money from her son, and other belongings. Ms. Miao was taken to Qingcheng Detention Center in Gansu Province.

Ms. Miao and her husband Mr. Kou have been persecuted many times by Huanxian 610 Office agents and police from the local police station. On February 16, 2004, at around 9:00 p.m., a dozen officers broke into their home and searched it. Police officers involved in the raid included Judicial and Law Committee head Chang Yuhai, police department head Yang Heping, and security section head Chen Yongzhong. During the raid, officers threatened Mr. Kou's elderly mother, who is in her seventies, and Ms. Miao's mother, who is in her fifties. They locked the elderly ladies in the bedroom and took the couple away at around 1:00 a.m. Ms. Miao and her husband were then imprisoned in the detention center. Their son, who was eight years old at the time, was also at home. Ms. Miao was sentenced to one year and three months of forced labor. She was detained in the detention center for over 40 days before being transferred to Gansu Women's Forced Labor Camp in early April 2004. She was released in May 2005. Mr. Kou was sentenced to three years in prison. He was also dismissed from his job.

After the couple returned, Zhang Jiannan and other officers often harassed them at home. Now that Ms. Miao has been arrested again, her husband has been forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. Their 14-year-old son is in his first year of high school and now has no one at home to take care of him.

Zhang Jiannan, head of the County Domestic Security Division, has often harassed the couple and their family during the past five years. Ms. Miao's mother-in-law passed away in 2008 due to fear and panic from the harassment.
