An Engineer Falun Gong Practitioner Who Was Reduced to Delivering Water after Being Persecuted, Appeals in Tianjin City, China

Sept. 23, 2011 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent in Tianjin

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Huang Liqiao was an engineer and important technical person at the Tianjin Seamless Steel Pipe Company. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. After the Chinese Communist Party began persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, his employer lured him with an increase in salary if he gave up his faith in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, but he refused the offer. He was later forced to quit his job and become a water delivery man in order to earn a living.

In April 2010, after being released from a forced labor camp, Mr. Huang filed a lawsuit against the Tianjin Steel Pipe Company with the Dongli Court. The litigation was delayed for a year, and he ended up losing the case wrongfully. Mr. Huang appealed, and it was said that the appeals court couldn't have the case heard until August 18, 2011.

Because he would not give up Falun Gong, he was tortured, became paralyzed, and developed uremia

Since 2000, because he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Huang has been held in a forced labor camp three times for a total of seven years. In the labor camp, he was tortured with electric batons, beaten with a wooden club, had his limbs forcefully stretched in a bed, was hung up by handcuffs, was deprived of sleep for long periods of time, had to sleep naked on a wooden bed without a cover in the winter, had cold water poured on him with the windows wide open, and was covered with a heavy insulated quilt in the summer.

One torture, called “one step to heaven,” was used on Mr. Huang several times. His left leg was first tied to a post or a fixture and a rope was tied to his right leg. The torturer then stood on his head, pulled his right leg back and forth towards him a few times, and then used the same method on his other leg. This terrible torture caused Mr. Huang to become paralyzed, and he was bedridden for over two months. He then twice developed uremia.

Despite being on the brink of death, Mr. Huang regained his health each and every time through solidly practicing Falun Gong.

Heaven gave him a good and virtuous wife

Huang Liqiao's family is very poor and his parents are senile. He has a younger brother who can't work due to a liver disease. Early in 2007, when his family was in an impoverished situation, a girl by the name of Xiaolan, who was deeply touched by what he went through with an unbeaten spirit, became his friend, and on November 17, 2007 they were married.

Family ruined, engineer once again became water delivery man

This happiness didn't last long, though. After being married for only five months, Huang Liqiao was once again illegally taken to a forced labor camp. The local police confiscated personal belongings and money from his home and their small store.

On April 20, 2008, while Mr. Huang was working in the energy department of Tianjin Steel Pipe Company, security guards from his workplace collaborated with Dahutong Police Station officers. They arrested and took him to the Tianjin City Public Security Bureau. Mr. Huang was then taken to Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp for a two-year term without any evidence or testimony being presented.

In the forced labor camp, Wu Mingxing, the Third Brigade captain, and Yang Junyuan, the vice-captain, instructed inmates Hu Yunfeng and Dawei to monitor Mr. Huang around the clock, to keep him from practicing Falun Gong. They tied him to his bed every day for as long as a year, except during mealtimes, washing-up, and toilet trips. In the hot summer he was covered with a cotton quilt.

Mr. Huang was tortured in the forced labor camp for two years. On April 19, 2010, when he was released and returned home, he was extremely emaciated. His wife, Xiaolan, was wrongly arrested and detained for 18 months in Bamqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp, where she was not only tortured, but her food was poisoned, which damaged her nervous system. This caused a mental disorder, memory loss, and insomnia, leaving her unable to work.

When Mr. Huang was released from the labor camp, he discovered that his employer had lured his younger brother to sign on his behalf to terminate his long-term contract, which as he pointed out was illegal. He asked to return to work, but his employer refused to allow it. His only option was to file a lawsuit. He filed the case with the Dongli Court, where it was delayed for a year. The Steel Pipe company colluded with the political and legal committee so that, despite the facts, the company won the case.

Mr. Huang refused to accept the court's decision and decided to appeal the case. However, the Dongli Court set up barriers and denied his appeal, so Mr. Huang had no alternative but to mail in his petition, as is his legal right.

Mr. Huang's letter of appeal has been accepted by the Tianjin City Second Intermediate People's Court, which will bring the case to trial soon.
