Studying the Fa and Validating the Fa

Sept. 25, 2011 |   By a practitioner in China

(Clearwisdom.net) In my opinion, every time we fail to break through tribulations or resist the persecution, it is exactly because our minds are not with the Fa and cannot validate the Fa at critical moments.

Master said, “Gong is the Law, and the Law is gong, for mind itself is matter.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Houston”)

It is my understanding that if we can always remember to think of the Fa, the mighty power of the Fa will enable us to overcome tribulations. Below are two examples I read from experience sharing articles that attest to this point.

The first example concerns a practitioner who ran into a conflict with another practitioner. In the middle of their heated conversation, the following passage of the Fa suddenly flashed in the concerned practitioner’s mind, and all his anger and discomfort suddenly disappeared.

“Don’t argue left and right, and don’t emphasize who’s right and who’s wrong. Some people are always stressing that they’re right, but even if you are right, even if you’re not wrong, so what? Have you improved on the basis of the Fa? The very act of using human thinking to stress who’s right and who’s wrong is in itself wrong. That’s because you are then using the logic of ordinary people to evaluate yourself, and using that logic to make demands on others. As gods see it, for a cultivator to be right or wrong in the human world is not important in the least, whereas eliminating the attachments that come from human thinking is important, and it is precisely your managing to eliminate those attachments rooted in your human thinking as you cultivate that counts as important.” (“Fa Teaching Given in Manhattan”)

The practitioner no longer held any negative thoughts about the other practitioner’s criticism of him, nor did he care about who was right and who was wrong.

The second example is about a practitioner who suddenly remembered the following passage of the Fa when a policeman was beating her with a stick.

“Maybe you’ve heard about some of these different kung fu skills, like how in novels they write about the Golden Bell Cover, the Iron Shirt, piercing a poplar from a hundred paces away, and then there’s the levitation abilities, where people can move about high up in the air, and some people can even vanish into other dimensions.” (“The Sixth Talk,” Zhuan Falun)

As a result, instead of her being hit, the policeman was thrown several meters away.

It is not hard to see that it is the mighty power of the Fa that enabled these two practitioners to break through tribulations. If we are able to think of the Fa at critical moments, we have gong or divine powers right away and we are truly validating the Fa.

There are some practitioners who don’t seem to recall any passages of the Fa while trying to resist the persecution or persuading people to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations, yet they have managed to break through tribulations successfully and help many people withdraw from the CCP. They had no clue about what thoughts of theirs conformed to the Fa that enabled them to solve problems, because they didn’t have a clear understanding of the Fa principles to begin with. As time went by, they tended to turn their “successes” into “experiences,” and were inclined to repeat their old ways of doing things. As a result, their path became narrower and narrower, and hence their fear grew bigger and bigger. In the meantime, they developed zealotry when other practitioners spoke highly of them, instead of following the Fa, so they encountered constant trouble. Many of these practitioners ended up experiencing repeated persecution. As I see it, this is exactly the consequence of failing to validate the Fa.

We are Dafa disciples and validating the Fa is our mission. I have come to the understanding that for every issue we have, there is corresponding Fa to help solve it. As such, we must take studying the Fa seriously and know how to apply the Fa. Only by doing this are we truly validating the Fa.

Master taught us,

“If a person can't cultivate in the Fa, then he isn't able to truly understand the Fa. Only when a person has truly grasped the Fa can he walk the path righteously and can his being be assured a good outcome. Otherwise that kind of being remains in the most perilous situation, because the evil can take advantage of his gaps at any time.” (“Teaching the Fa at the 2004 International Fa Conference in New York”)

Whenever we share experiences with fellow practitioners, we should point out what aspect of the Fa enabled us to generate righteous thoughts subsequently solving our problems so that they can also benefit from our enlightenment. Aren’t we validating the Fa by sharing experiences this way?

Master said,

“Fresh water doesn’t mix with seawater since they aren’t the same substance.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. Fa Conference”)

I have come to realize that even though we live among non-practitioners, we should not mix ourselves with them because we have a different nature and we exist for different reasons. We must be clear about who we are and what the Fa requires of us. We can’t allow our human notions to direct our cultivation.

Some practitioners are able to think of the Fa amidst tribulations, yet they lack confidence in the Fa and thus fail to validate the Fa.

There are also practitioners who do not look to the Fa for solutions, but ask around for tips on handling cultivation issues. They gather around “star practitioners” who once successfully resisted the persecution or effectively clarified the facts, and hope to obtain some “methods” from them. Some “star practitioners” are eager to share so-called “successful experiences,” yet completely forget to mention the Fa and thus forget the fundamentals of cultivation. In my mind, these “star practitioners” and their followers are all doing Dafa projects with human notions, and are validating “experiences and methods,” not the Fa. The meaning of the Fa is boundless, and Fa-rectification requires us to comprehend the Fa from the perspective of the Fa. Only by doing this can we cultivate ourselves well and truly assist Master with Fa-rectification.

Of course, reading Dafa books in and of itself does not equate to studying the Fa well, and being able to memorize passage after passage of the Fa does not imply a solid understanding of the Fa. We should strive to gauge everything we encounter with the Fa principles and remove anything not conforming to the Fa. This way we can solve problems, resist the persecution and save sentient beings, while validating the Fa.
