In September 1999, after the Chinese Communist Party began its suppression of Falun Gong, many practitioners, including Ms. Jing, were doing the Falun Gong exercises at Fushun Children's Park. Police surrounded, arrested, and took them to Yong'antai Police Station in Fushun City. Police officers ransacked Ms. Jing Ping's home and confiscated her copy of Zhuan Falun and Teacher Li Hongzhi's picture. She was detained in Fushun City Detention Center for 15 days.

Tortured and Money Extorted from Her

Ms. Jing and Ms. Wang Guiping practiced the Falun Gong exercises while detained in Fushun City Detention Center, so police officer Liu Xiaonan shocked their heads and bodies with electric batons. Lilu Xiaonan poured a basin of water on Ms. Wang Guiping.

Shortly after Ms. Jing was released, officers from the Yong'antai Police Station arrested her again and took her to the Yong'antai Police Station. Officers from theYong'antai Police Station and officials from the Yong'antai Community Office extorted 5,000 yuan from Ms. Jing Ping's family and refused to issue a receipt.

Arrested and Detained in Fushun City Detention Center Several Times

In February 2000, officers from the Zhanqian Police Station arrested Ms. Jing Ping when she was studying the Fa at the home of a practitioner with the surname Feng on Dongsan Road. She was taken to the Fushun City Detention Center, where she was detained for 15 days.

In June 2000, Ms. Jing went to the Beijing Appeals Office to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She was arrested and detained at the Fushun City Affiliated Office in Beijing and then taken back to Fushun City. Yong'antai Police Station officers picked her up at the railway station and took her to the Fushun City Detention Center, where she was detained for 15 days. When she was released in July, she was then sentenced to one year of forced labor. Yong'antai Police Station officers took her to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

Tortured in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp

When Ms. Jing arrived at Masanjia Labor Camp, policewoman Qiu Ping arranged for detainees who had renounced Falun Gong to meet her. Many practitioners were detained in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and some had been “transformed.” Ms. Jing didn't know that these practitioners no longer practiced Falun Gong. They claimed that they had just pretended to write the repentance statement. They said, “We are free to read Falun Dafa books and Teacher's articles.” She believed them. They provided her with a statement for her to copy. She thought that she would no longer be tortured or harassed. But, several days later, when she was told to write a report about her thoughts, she realized that she had been deceived. She said to those who had misled her, “I still want to practice Falun Gong. All I have written about renouncing Falun Gong is null and void.”

From then on, she was tortured. After getting up at 5:30 a.m., she was forced to squat for 17 hours for more than 10 days in a row. She refused to renounce Falun Gong. Officials from Masanjia Forced Labor Camp wrote letters to her family, demanding that they help to “transform” her. They forced her to squat with her legs bent and arms stretched out in front of her. Qiu Ping and two instructors decided to shock her head and body with electric batons. The excruciating pain was too much for her to bear, so she wrote another repentance statement. She suffered physically and spiritually. Whenever she heard the instructor call her name, she became so frightened that she couldn't calm down for a long time. .

Two months later, she told Qiu Ping that the repentance statements she had written were null and void, and she would continue to practice Falun Dafa. She was then beaten, forced to squat for a long time, and deprived of sleep and food.

Ms. Jing suffered electric shock, long-time squatting, sleep deprivation and was forced to work many hours. Sometimes, she was forced to face to the wall until midnight or 2:00 a.m. She was forbidden to talk and was monitored around the clock.

Her term was extended for 130 days because she refused to renounce Falun Dafa.

Six Years at Liaoning Province Women's Prison

On the evening of July 1, 2002, police arrested Ms. Jing Ping at her workplace. She was detained for three days and was handcuffed at night. She was then transferred to the Fushun City Forced Labor Camp, where she was held in a solitary cell for over 70 days. She was taken to the hospital because of asthma. Officials extorted 1,000 yuan from her before she was released.

On March 2, 2003, she was arrested by two officers from the Gebu Police Station of the Shuncheng District, Fushun City, and detained at the Shuncheng District Police Bureau. Police officers shouted, “If you don't cooperate, we will shock you with electric batons tonight.” They forced her to squat and beat her with a leather belt, put her on the tiger bench, burned her with cigarettes, and sexually abused her. Ms. Jing shouted, “You are obscene hooligans!” At the time a captain walked in and told the officers, “Do you know who she is? Her father is ___. Her husband is ___.” (Ms. Jing's father and husband were both police officers). The police stopped. After 1:00 a.m., the police took her back to Gebu Police Station and handcuffed her to a chair. On the morning of March 3, they continued the interrogation. Later she was transferred to Fushun City Second Detention Center. In July 2003, she was sentenced to a six-year prison term at Liaoning Province Women's Prison, starting from November 24, 2003.

At the prison, she was held in the fifth ward. Jia Yingchun, captain of the ward, ordered inmates Yu Chun and Wang Liyan to torture her, including forcing her to squat or stand for as long as 16 hours a day. The inmates cursed at her daily, stuck sewing needles into her hands and body, forbade family visits, forbade the purchase of personal items for eight months, and she was not allowed to take a shower. Jia Yingchun also extorted money from Ms. Jing's family.

In 2003, the inmates got up at 5:30 a.m. to get ready for the day. They worked from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and often had to work overtime. Ms. Jing had to weave, sew clothes, and make handicrafts that were exported to the United States.

The food provided was either unprocessed grain or coarse and hard to digest corn bread, as well as soup with very little vegetables.

Torture Suffered by Practitioners

In winter, guard Zhao ordered inmate Liu (in her 40s) to strip a practitioner down to her underwear and force her to squat. Ms. Liu was deprived of sleep at night, and was beaten and held in the cold storage area.

Xia Bin, second ward prison guard, ordered inmate Wu Wei to beat practitioner Ms. Gao. At night after having done hard labor, Ms. Gao was held in the storage room and tortured. Over time, she became emaciated.

Guard Chen Shuo ordered inmate Yan Yujin, in his 20s, and Wu Shaojuan, in his 40s, from Benxi City to torture practitioner Ms. Cheng Yaping, in her 50s. She was not allowed to buy food. Sometimes they dragged her to the storage room to beat her. They also beat her at night and deprived her of sleep. When the prison supervisor conducted an inspection, the guards feared that Ms. Cheng might speak out. They had inmates seal her mouth with tape.

Practitioner Ms. Li Naiyan, in her 50s, was beaten in the prison guards office. Guard Wang Dan ordered inmates Nie Chunling, in her 20s, and Wu Shaojuan to beat Ms. Li. She suffered a heart attack and was taken to the prison hospital for emergency treatment. The prison authorities extorted 900 yuan from her.

Practitioner Ms. Liu refused to be “transformed.” She went on a hunger strike and was force-fed.

Practitioners Ms. Miao Shuqing, in her 50s, and Ms. Zhang Jie, in her 40s, both from Fushun City; Ms. Wang Yinping, in her 50s; and Ms. Meng Jian, in her 40s, refused to cooperate with the guards and inmates. They were beaten, forced to squat, and suffered other types of harassment.

Practitioner Ms. Hu Ying, in her 20s, is a resident of Hui'an Community, Tieling City, Liaoning Province. In February 2009, she was transferred from the Diaobingshan Detention Center to Liaoning Province Women's Prison. She could not walk on her own and had bruises all over her body. She was left unattended on the ground in the snow at the front gate of the prison for more than an hour.

Second ward prison guards ordered inmates to monitor newly transferred practitioners and prevent them from talking to anybody. They used all kinds of torture methods, including sleep deprivation, standing for hours at a time, squatting, and no family visits. Sometimes, people could hear the guards beating and cursing at the practitioners during the night.

Inmates who tortured practitioners were rewarded with early release.
