Mr. Huang began practicing Falun Dafa on March 9, 1999, and persisted in the practice after the persecution of Falun Gong began. On March 6, 2002, officers from the Yanji City Police Department and its Domestic Security Division, along with local 610 Office agents, arrested him at his home and held him in the Yanji Detention Center for a number of days.
On May 13, 2004, to celebrate World Falun Dafa Day, Mr. Huang created several banners by writing characters with brush pens, and hung them out of the windows of his home. Shortly afterward Beishan Police Station officers broke into his home and took him to the station. He was later held in the Yanji Detention Center for 38 days. On June 22, 2004, he was sentenced to one year of forced labor and sent to Jiutai Forced Labor Camp.
Mr. Huang suffered from all kinds of tortures and severe beatings. When he first arrived at the labor camp, the guards pressured him to write the three statements giving up Falun Gong. When he refused, seven or eight strong young guards tied his arms behind his back, held him down on the ground, stepped on him, and beat him mercilessly. Mr. Huang shouted, "I am a 66-year-old senior citizen and it is wrong for you to do this! Jiang Zemin is a traitor to our country, and you will not come to a good end if you follow him!" The guards and criminals would not listen and continued torturing him. They didn't allow him to sleep for six days and nights and only gave him four pieces of coarse bread to eat and cold water to drink each day. His weight dropped to only about 45 pounds.

The guards also forced Mr. Huang to sit on a board for 18 hours a day, from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., during which time if he moved his feet slightly, he would be pressured to write a pledge to give up his practice of Falun Gong. If he refused, he was beaten mercilessly. Mr. Huang was forced to sit on a board for six months. This caused his buttocks to fester, and he even had difficulty taking off his trousers due to pus from the festered area making his trousers stick to his body. During this time, guards burned Mr. Huang with cigarettes four to five times. Since Mr. Huang was very firm in his belief, he was confined on the fourth floor alone and closely monitored. He was only allowed to use the restroom twice per day and not allowed to have contact with anyone.

In August 2004, two drunk officers took Mr. Huang out of his cell to a secret room on the fifth floor. Mr. Huang had bad feelings about this and sent forth strong righteous thoughts. The room had a strong smell of blood, and there were bloodstains on the floor. Instruments of torture were hung up on the walls. Mr. Huang shouted at them, “What do you want to do? Are you still human beings? What are you going to do with me? If you intend to kill me, it will not be easy.” Mr. Huang refused to cooperate with them. After a while, the two guards fell asleep and he walked out of the room. When other guards saw him walking out of the room, they were shocked and wondered if he was a ghost, since nobody had left the room alive before.
In late September 2004, the same two guards called out Mr. Huang again when they were drunk. One of them was holding an insulated jacket soaked with water. Mr. Huang sensed that they would use it to suffocate him and he took away the jacket from them. He then threw it at one of them and got away.
In November 2004, the two guards took Mr. Huang to a secret room. One of them held him up and threw him in the corner. The other one kicked him, but Mr. Huang resisted and was able to stand up.
Mr. Huang was handcuffed the entire time he was detained in the labor camp. He was released on April 22, 2005.
Mr. Huang and his wife were arrested when they were getting ready to leave for their daughter's wedding on May 20, 2006. On May 21, he was sent to the Yanji Detention Center with plans to send him to a labor camp later. After 40 days of detention, however, Mr. Huang had severe symptoms of high-blood pressure and lung cancer and he was released.
By the time he returned home, he was emaciated and very weak. The local police often went to his home to harass him. He was not able to recover and passed away on September 23, 2009.
