Seventy-three-year-old Ms. Zheng Shuxian Poisoned in a Sichuan Brainwashing Center

Oct. 5, 2012 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zheng Shuxian was taken away and sent to the brainwashing center in Xinjin County by local 610 Office agent Xiao Xueyu and others on November 28, 2011. When she was released on December 22, Ms. Zheng felt so weak physically that she couldn't walk by herself. Ms. Zheng had been very healthy and energetic as a result of practicing Falun Gong, so her family was alarmed that she had become so thin and sickly in such a short period of time.

On the day before she was released from the brainwashing center, Ms. Zheng was given a meal. After eating, she began to have an uncomfortable feeling on her skin as if covered by worms; she also found it hard to breathe, was dizzy, and felt weak.

Ms. Zheng, 73, lives in Guhe Village, Dengshuang Town, Xinjin County. She suffered from multiple ailments before practicing Falun Gong. The most severe physical problem was extreme nerve pain and numbness in her legs which prevented her from bending her knees and walking. She started practicing Falun Gong in January 1999 and all her illnesses disappeared within several months. Her temper also improved and she became kind and patient and her relationships with family and neighbors greatly improved. Because she benefited from Falun Gong, Ms. Zheng went to Beijing to appeal to the central government against the persecution. Like many other practitioners, her appeal was in line with China's constitution.

On November 28, 2011, around noon, two policemen from the Dengshuang Township Police Station and two guards from the Xinjin Brainwashing Center forcibly took Ms. Zheng from her home to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center (so-called Chengdu Legal System Education Center). The police also took away all of her Falun Dafa books and exercise tapes. On that day, Ms. Zheng was sent to the Huaqiao Hospital for a physical examination. She was found to have necrosis of the femur, but the brainwashing center still did not release her.

From the second day in the brainwashing center, because Ms. Zheng felt very uncomfortable in her chest after every meal she tried to avoid eating too much of the food to avoid intake of possibly poisoned food. About 15 days later, she started to cough severely which sometimes resulted in coughing blood. Another Falun Dafa practitioner who was detained on the second floor in the center had similar symptoms. One day Ms. Zheng needed to buy a pair of underwear. The inmates who monitored her told her that she didn't need to pay for them since they were paid for by the government. As soon as she put them on, Ms. Zheng experienced unexplainable skin problems. She immediately took them off; however, the problems didn't disappear until several days later.

Later another practitioner Ms. Pan Tingying (whose story is mentioned briefly at the end of the article) protested the poisoned food in the center. The center forced a practitioner who had been fed the same food to deny that it was poisoned on video to show the currently detained practitioners.

Besides the physical torture of drugging, the center also forced practitioners to watch videos defaming Dafa and attempting to persuade them to renounce Dafa. The torture did not stop until practitioners agreed to write and sign statements renouncing Falun Dafa.

When Ms. Zheng was being released on December 22, 2011, the center's warden Yin Shunyao said to her, “If you continue to practice Falun Gong after you leave, it won't be so easy for you to leave the center next time.”

Police officers from Dengshuang Town police station drove Ms. Zheng home that day. Because she could not walk without assistance, her monitoring inmates carried her to the car.

In the past 13 years, Ms. Zheng has been arrested, detained, and tortured many times for upholding her belief. On June 20, 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal. She was arrested when she was doing the exercises on Tiananmen Square on June 22. On June 29, she and 17 other practitioners went to the Jinshanjiao Square in her home county to do the exercises in the morning, but they were all arrested by Wujin Police. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., they were handcuffed and forced to stand under the scorching sun. During these nine hours they were not allowed to have water or food or use washroom facilities in the 38-degree-Celsius weather. They were then sent to a detention center and kept there for 40 days. Police extorted money from them and called it a “fine.” Since Ms. Zheng did not have money for the extortion, they stole her Certificate of House Property (real estate document) as a “deposit.”

On February 7, 2002, Yang Long, the official in charge of local security at the Dengshuang Town government, deceived her into going to the government building for a meeting. When she arrived she was arrested by Wujin Police Station vice-director Peng Shuquan and detained at the station for about a month. She and seven practitioners were forced to sleep on a cement floor overnight and deprived of food for four days. Later they were transferred to a local detention center. Because of her serious leg problem, Ms. Zheng was not taken to the detention center; however, the other seven practitioners were detained for seven months. On September 2, 2002, she was reported to the police while she was distributing informational materials in Shisan Village. She was again arrested by police officer Du Youming and detained for two months.

Another Senior Practitioner from Sichuan Repeatedly Arrested

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Pan Tingying, 70, is a retired engineer from Sichuan Silkworm Medicine Factory. Her home is in the Industrial Bank staff residential building on Waidong Street. Due to multiple diseases that had prevented her from continuing to work, she was forced into early retirement. The practice of Falun Dafa helped her regain her health. Because she has been steadfast in her belief, Ms. Pan had been detained and imprisoned several times.

The last time was in 2011. On October 9, 2011 she chatted with an old friend she hadn't seen for a long time by the Nan River in Xinjin. She discussed computer technology that could break through Internet blockade and provided the friend with the means to apply the technology. Soon three police officers came up to her and surrounded her. Then Li Peide, the vice-director of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of the county government, arrived. He picked up Ms. Pan and took her to the Caiwan Brainwashing Center in Xinjin County. There Ms. Pan and other detained practitioners were confined to tiny rooms and monitored by two people. Forbidden to leave the rooms, they had to do everything there including eating, using the washroom, and sleeping. They were also forced to watch videos defaming Falun Dafa. In order to make practitioners give up their belief, police also threatened them with imprisonment in forced labor camps and jails, and extortion (10,000 yuan per month).
