Pingdu Court in Shandong Province Postpones Hearing in Fear of Having to Open It to the Public

Oct. 6, 2012 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Shandong Province

(Minghui.org) After hearing that the Pingdu Court planned to open a trial at 2:00 p.m. on July 27, Mr. Wang Guangwei sent an invitation of this hearing to the local public. This caused officials from the 610 Office and the police to panic, and threaten those who received the invitation. The Pingdu Court then postponed the trial repeatedly. When the attorney went to the court on August 15 to inquire about the trial date, the judge refused to give a date.

Mr. Wang Guangwei is a Falun Gong practitioner from Wangjiazhuang Village, Landi Township, Pingdu City. When he posted Falun Gong information posters in Majiaxipu Village on March 14, 2012, he was reported by Qiao Xianpeng from the same village. Police officer Liu Naiqiang and others from the Landi township police station arrested him and ransacked his home. He had been detained at the Pingdu Detention Center and was forced to do heavy labor. On the night he was arrested, he was tortured by officer Liu Jie from the Pingdu Police Department. Liu Jie stepped hard on Wang’s head with his leather shoes and kicked his legs, torturing him for one hour. The Pingdu City Procuratorate filed a lawsuit at the court on July 13. Wang’s family hired attorneys Dong Qianyong and Lan Zhixue to defend him.

Pingdu 610 Office arrests people

Hiring an attorney in order to defend an innocent person had never happened in this area. The news spread quickly, the public was shocked and many people wanted to attend the hearing.

Around 9:30 a.m. on July 24, the couple Mr. Wang Huanzhong and Ms. Li Li, who are practitioners from Dianqian Village, were arrested by officers from the Taishan Road police station, because they had distributed an invitation to the public. Wang Huanzhong was detained at the Pingdu detention center on July 25 for 30 days and was sentenced to forced labor for one year thereafter. Currently, he is being detained at the Zhangqiu labor camp. On the same day, Li Li was taken to the brainwashing center of the Qingdao 610 Office, where she was held for more than 20 days. Then she was transferred to the Dashan detention center. After the invitation letter had spread to the public, officials from the 610 Office and Pingdu Domestic Security Office were in a panic. Around 7:00 p.m. on July 24, personnel from the 610 Office sneaked into villages and towns in order to trace the source of the invitation letter and those who had distributed it. They snatched the letter from the hands of people, threatening those who wanted to attend with being arrested.

An Unusual July 27

Although the trial was postponed on July 27, evildoers were still on high alert. The officials from nine villages were sent to the court to cooperate with the police and to help recognize and arrest people from their villages. More officials from the villages were ordered to monitor practitioners at their homes and stop them from going to the court.

Because some people didn’t know that the trial had been postponed, they still went to the court for the hearing. According to a witness, police officers in plain clothes were stationed around the courthouse. Many officers were also at the entrance of the court. Officers in plain clothes were also in the park on the east side of the court, acting like they belonged to the general public and approaching those who had prepared to go to the hearing.

At 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, a lady in her 40s from Jiudian township was recognized by Dai Yugang, an official from the 610 Office. Four or five police officers pushed her into a police car and drove her back home. Around 2:00 p.m., Dai Yugang and another policewoman got out of their car, scolded a pedestrian and did not allow her to stand at the entrance of the courthouse. They also grabbed the key of a man, who walked across the street with his bike. They forcefully searched this senior’s bag and wanted to know what he planned to do.

Dai Yugang also swindled and told those people who planned to go to the hearing, “The attorneys took 30,000 RMB from Wang Guangwei’s family and ran away. They are no longer defending Wang.”

That afternoon, a resident from the same village where Wang Guangwei lives came to the courthouse entrance. Police officers who were waiting there confiscated his motorcycle key, and forced him to show his ID. These officers thought that he was the second eldest brother of Wang Guangwei, yet he denied it. However, they didn’t listen and took him away. After village head Wang Guangping came out and clarified the situation, they released him. The next day, a person from the Pingdu 610 Office went to his home and harassed him.

Concocted evidence against Wang Guangwei’s wife

Because attorney Lan Zhixue had a schedule conflict between two cases, he asked the court to postpone the trial, but judge Liu Jianguo refused his request right away. However, less than two days before the trial, Liu Jianguo suddenly contacted attorney Lan and agreed to postpone the trial. Hypocritically, he asked attorney Lan to thank him. However, a person from the Pingdu 610 Office spread the rumor that, “The court never planned to open the trial on July 27. Falun Gong practitioners were lying." Police officers also concocted evidence in order to frame Wang Guangwei’s wife, Sun Suling. They also said, “The trial will continue after Sun Suling has been arrested.”

When officials from the Pingdu 610 Office noticed that many people had received the invitation to the hearing, they not only threatened to arrest those who planned to go, including Wang Guangwei’s family, but also took those relatives and friends who received the invitation to the Landi Police Station to sign up. They concocted evidence in order to arrest Ms. Sun Suling and searched for her in an attempt to hunt her down.

On July 25, a young man who repaired his motorcycle on Landi Road also got an invitation letter. He mentioned to a village official that Wang Guangwei had been hiring attorneys to defend him. That cadre unexpectedly took the invitation letter away from him and called the local police. Shortly thereafter, many officers in several police cars arrived and questioned the young man about the source of the invitation letter. They also told him to come to the Landi police station to be fingerprinted, yet this young man refused to go. The police went to the young man’s house several times and harassed him, and told him to report Ms. Sun Suling to the police station when he saw her.
