A Military Officer's Wife Tells of Her Steadfast Belief in Falun Dafa Despite Vicious Persecution

Dec. 21, 2012 |   By a practitioner from China

(Minghui.org) One day, the editor of a magazine at the central level said emotionally in a conversation with me: “I have often given tests to my doctoral and masters degree students. I found that all of them would just copy the answers from the book. They lacked independent thinking. But you are different. You think for yourself, clearly and analytically. Compared to them, you are quite superior. It's been 20 years since we last met, but you are still the same person.”

My husband was an active-duty military officer. Because he was so hardworking, the army sent him to pursue a higher degree. Due to the degeneration in today's society, corruption inside the army was rampant. Since we began practicing Falun Dafa, we have always conducted ourselves according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. We didn't bribe our superiors to get a new apartment. We took material interests very lightly. Although at times my husband and I still have conflicts in our daily life, we have always managed to look inward to find our inadequacies. For example, in the past, I liked to complain about everything and always seemed to see only people's shortcomings. Now, I have learned to examine my own inadequacies and have stopped complaining about things. I have also managed to correct my shortcomings using the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance taught by Falun Dafa. Because of this, all conflicts are easily resolved.

My husband and I were married in 1993. We began the practice of Falun Dafa in 1999. Through Fa study, I have come to understand a lot of higher principles and the meaning of life. I became steadfast in being a good and moral person. I was an accountant in a company. There was a park in front of our house. I used to go there to practice the Falun Gong exercises every day before I went to work. When I came home from work, I would either study the Fa or practice the exercises. Because of the improvement in my xinxing, I was named “Outstanding Military Wife” by the army. For six months, I was bathed in the beauty of cultivating in Falun Dafa.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began brutally persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999. All Falun Gong practitioners have been subjected to various degrees of persecution since then. In 2001, I was persecuted by the 610 Office and the local public security bureau and tortured, resulting in a lower extremity comminuted fracture. The doctor told me that one of the fractures was not visible on the film, and most likely I would need to use crutches for the rest of my life. Police from the 610 Office and the local public security bureau repeatedly harassed me even when I was bedridden. When they didn't get what they wanted, they went on to ransack my parents' house and threatened them: “Your daughter might be sentenced five to 10 years in jail. If you want to reduce her term, you must cooperate with us.” Despite the fact that my elderly parents had repeatedly begged them for permission to come to the hospital to take care of me, they refused. They didn't even tell my parents where I was when I was detained. Because of this, my parents were in tears every day. One day, the director of the local public security bureau attempted to lure me into a pitfall by using my affection for my family. He first told my parents to write me over 20 letters. Then, with the letters in his hand, he used them as a bribe. He walked around my room after giving me one of the letters to read, and said, “Do you want to know what is happening at home? Do you want to read all of your parents' letters? Then tell me where these Falun Gong truth-clarification materials came from. Who are your and your husband's contacts?” Seeing that his ploy didn't work, he left. My parents were extremely nervous when they didn't hear any news from me.

Several days later, over a dozen people from the military, the local public security bureau, the 610 Office and my work unit came to the ward where I was detained, which was sealed and monitored 24 hours a day by two guards. They brought my husband with them. Originally, my husband was waiting for the army to transfer him back to his hometown by the end of the year. After I was injured, the army sent four people to my husband's hometown and took him back into the army.

At that time, I was still suffering from a lower back compression fracture. I was in bed, unable to move. I couldn't control my tears when I saw my husband. I knew I hadn't done anything wrong. The CCP was persecuting good people. The only person who understood me was my husband. I knew that he wouldn't complain about what I went through. I just hoped that he wouldn't worry about me too much, or be persecuted by the CCP. Because so many people were there, I couldn't say anything to him. My husband and I met for less than 10 minutes, but were monitored by over 20 people. Such a tragedy could only happen under the CCP's regime where human rights and dignity are ignored.

Police from the 610 Office and the local public security bureau came to arraign me several times. I bought my computer in 1997 before I began to practice Falun Gong, but they insisted on framing me for intentionally buying the computer to produce Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. Some good friends had come to visit me in my house. The officials charged me with “unlawful assembly.” The arraignments were meant to frame me. Seeing that I didn't cooperate, they threatened me by saying that if I didn't tell them where the materials came from, or to whom the materials were given, they would use the Dafa books and materials that they had confiscated from my house to accuse my husband of producing them, charging him with “disrupting social order.” That would ruin his future, and he would not longer have any income.

The armed forces was very nervous about military officers whose family members were Falun Gong practitioners. They held meeting after meeting and wrote reports to deal with us. In order to keep their posts, the political commissars of the army tried to pressure my husband into divorcing me. One of them threatened him: “If you don't file for a divorce, your political future will be over. If you do, we will take care of it for you.” Another one said, “Nowadays, it is the fashion for people to change houses, cars, and wives. This is an opportunity for you to make that change.” My husband said, “As human beings, we have to have a conscience and morality. We can't stone a person while she is in the well.” One of my husband's good friends advised him, “Your wife will be sentenced to at least five years in jail. The doctor said she will be a cripple. Do you really want to take care of her for the rest of her life? If you do, you will have no future.” My husband was not persuaded.

During that time, everyone was talking about buying welfare housing. In order to get another apartment, many people in the army filed for fake divorces. For example, if my husband got a divorce from me, he would be assigned another apartment besides the one he was living in. Additionally, he would get tens of thousands of dollars in housing subsidies. But my husband wasn't tempted at all.

The leaders of the army still didn't want to give up on persuading my husband to divorce me. They sent a deputy chief of staff to my husband's hometown, which was located thousands of miles away, to persuade and threaten my mother-in-law: “If your son doesn't divorce his wife, I will lock him up.” My mother-in-law said, “The law allows the freedom of marriage. Whether or not they want a divorce, that's their business. I sent my son to serve in the army, and if you lock him up simply because he is not willing to divorce, I will not give you peace!”

My father was a university student. He has also lived through many different movements launched by the evil CCP. Fearing my husband's future would be jeopardized because of me, my father tried to persuade him to divorce me: “My daughter will be in prison for at least five years. Plus, she is crippled. At present, she still doesn't want to be “transformed.” The 610 Office and the local public security bureau won't spare her. If you do divorce her, we won't say that you did anything wrong.” My husband said, “She didn't do anything wrong. Why would I divorce her? A man must have good morals.”

My husband, as a cultivator, followed the principles and the moral standard set forth by Falun Dafa. He wasn't moved at all in the face of personal interest. At a loss, the army held my husband incommunicado for three months. He had been approved for relocation, but now was placed under house arrest.

I was detained in a prison hospital. One of the leaders who saw me there told my parents that I almost passed out during his visit. My parents then went to various offices to get help for me. Three months later, I was finally “released on bail.” The 610 Office and the local public security bureau asked my parents to collaborate with them to “transform” me. They locked my home telephone in a metal box so I couldn't use it. They didn't let outside people to come to visit me. I could only stay at my parents' house.

Fearing that I would be arrested by the public security bureau and sent to prison for more torture, in order to protect me, my father developed a hateful attitude against me. He started hitting and cursing me in an attempt to “transform” me. I was steadfast in Dafa and refused to be “transformed.” Seeing no results, my father tried to force my husband to divorce me, hoping that without any income or support from my loved ones, I would give up practicing Dafa. After my husband refused to cooperate with him, he got furious. He called all my relatives to come to our house and told them that it was their last chance to see me before he sent me back to prison.

I had been my father's favorite child since I was small. Under my parents' care, I grew up with no worries at all. Now, faced with the CCP's persecution, he was so afraid I would again be persecuted. He used all kinds of tricks to try to stop me from practicing Dafa. I started to wonder, “Why has my father been so irrational and unable to distinguish good from evil? Why is he so fearful of the CCP? He knows better than anyone that his daughter didn't do anything wrong, but just wants to cultivate in Dafa. Why did he try to force his daughter to tell lies? People have talked about the communist evil spirit. My father must have been possessed by the communist evil spirit. The CCP's movements, one after another, have scared many Chinese people like my father. People are victimized by the CCP's propaganda.” Beaten and scolded by my father, I cried silently. I knew he was poisoned by the CCP's fabricated news. He did a bad thing while thinking he was helping me to get away from the persecution.

After my husband learned how I was being treated, he quickly came to my parent's house and took me back to our house (despite pressure from all sides). Our Dafa books, computer, camcorder, personal letters, watches, discs, etc. had been confiscated by the public security bureau. Although it had been six months, due to so many horrific things that had happened to us, I couldn't believe that I was back in my own home. I knew my husband had gone through a lot. Army personnel had repeatedly tried to force him to divorce me. But now, not only did he refuse, but he also brought me home to take care of me. After my husband brought me home, the army put us under surveillance. They didn't give my husband any specific job. During the day, they made him report to the army. On the weekends, if he wanted to leave home, he had to ask the army for permission and be accompanied by a supervisor. Now, the sentinel had one more task to do, that is, to monitor us. Our home phone and whereabouts were constantly monitored.

Police from the public security bureau called my husband and told him not to keep me at home. My husband refused to listen to them. Meanwhile, my mother and a former teacher and his wife (a university professor) came to our home to persuade me to give up practicing Dafa. My husband, who was sitting next to them, said, “As teachers, you are supposed to teach students correctly, set examples, and solve students' dilemmas. How can you use lies to teach your students well?” They had nothing more to say and left.

Even amidst persecution, I was faithful in studying Zhuan Falun and practicing the five exercises. Soon, my health miraculously recovered. My husband was sent to a labor camp to serve two years for not reporting a Falun Gong member in his house to the army. I repeatedly asked to visit him, but was not allowed to. Seeing that my health had recovered so quickly, some of the military officers asked me how I did it. I told them I practiced Falun Gong. I then went on to answer their questions, clearing up their misunderstanding and misconceptions about Falun Gong. After listening to my explanations, one of the high-ranking officers said, “The truth must be told.” Another officer closed the door to listen to me to clarify the facts about the staged self-immolation in Tiananmen Square. He said, “Your words are like an atomic bomb. The leading cadres here are really afraid of you, and yet they can't let you go.”

Using all kinds of excuses, the army refused to let me see my husband. I wrote a letter to the military headquarters in Beijing, but I didn't get a reply. Oftentimes, I gazed at the clouds in the sky and dozed off, worrying that the wicked CCP might do harm to my husband. I thought to myself: “As a wife, it is a matter of course that I have the right to see my husband.” Thus, I went to look for the political commissar of the army and asked him to give me a clear answer. I told him that I would go on a hunger strike from that minute on if I didn't see my husband. Three days later, fearing that I would starve, my father got very nervous and took me to the army to see the officers. One of the supervisors in the army quickly asked his superior how to handle the situation, but told me to go home to wait for a response. I insisted that I wouldn't go anywhere unless I saw my husband, whether he was alive or dead. One hour later, they agreed to send a car over and take me to see my husband. After that, I was able to go there by myself to see my husband.

Three months later, the army played games with me. They sent in three cadres and transferred my husband by plane to a forced labor camp thousands of miles away.

After my health was fully restored, the 610 Office again attempted to arrest me. Thus, I was forced to leave my hometown and settled elsewhere. Personnel from the armed forces searched for me frantically. They followed my parents and hid at my sister's house. One day at my sister's house, my mother went to close the window. Suddenly, a head stuck out of the bushes and shouted at my mother, “Where is your daughter?” He said he had been hiding there for several days.

One year later, my husband was released from the labor camp after his term was over and sent back to the army. The army didn't let my husband go home, saying, “Your wife is not there. You have no home to return to. Just stay in the army.” In fact, they tried to put him under house arrest. Two years ago, he was persecuted for protecting his wife (just because she is a Falun Gong practitioner) and pressured to divorce her. Now he couldn't go home because his wife was not there.

After much difficulty, I learned about my husband's harsh situation through my family and friends. I decided to go back home to look for him. When I arrived at the army, personnel there were shocked to see me. I then demanded that my husband be allowed to go home with me. They tried to delay by pretending they wanted to take me out for dinner, even as they were dialing the 610 Office. A few moments later, several cars from the 610 Office arrived and took me away. The army quickly called my husband and said, “Your wife is not going to come back this time. Be mentally prepared.” However, after interrogating me, the 610 Office couldn't find anything that they could use to implicate me and I was released. The army had also exhausted all the tricks to persecute me. Finally, after two years, my husband and I were reunited.

A few years later, I encountered my former teacher and his wife, who once came to visit me. They told me that they had finished watching the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. They knew what I had been through. Seeing that I had recovered my health so fast, and that I looked much younger than before, they were amazed and expressed their interest in practicing Falun Gong.

This is the path of hardships that we have journeyed for the past few years. From my experience, one can see the evil CCP's complete loss of rationality in its frantic persecution of Falun Dafa. My story also reflects how thousands of Falun Dafa disciples, whose steadfast faith in Falun Dafa has helped them walk through many tribulations, resist the persecution and gain a new life.
